Awesome questions by Mr. Kennedy, and as usual pathetic answers from a democrat witness. It’s been known forever that Mexico is a narco state completely run by the drug cartels with most politicians being bought and paid for by those same cartels. Obrador is clearly one of them. It’s high time we start looking at the strong possibility that politicians on our side of the border as well as others are similarly on the take also. This is not rocket science as far as difficulty to solve as problems go. The cartels only understand and respect one thing - violence. We could deliver that in overwhelming fashion and completely wipe out their little piss ant organizations if the political will to do it was there. Sadly, government corruption on both sides is preventing that from ever happening.

That’s one of the best common sense questions I’ve ever heard asked to these DEA’s who are over paid to not do basic work in saving American lives. They don’t even consider the obvious solutions to the crisis we’re facing right now. We need a new law. When government bureaucrats refuse to answer simple questions from members of Congress, they should be immediately arrested for contempt of Congress and serve a minimum sentence of 60 days in jail. I am a person of long term recovery with a little over 7 years of sobriety from heroin.
I also work in an outpatient facility. So I know exactly what it is like to be on both side of the spectrum. Since getting clean, I have been to over 55 funerals. I am one of 10 that use to be at my house everyday that is alive. and Mr. Kennedy, sir, my hat is off to you!! Something needs to be done. We already have programs in place to help them stop, if they want to. Key word is 'Want." We have free Narcan, a life saving tool if they are overdosing, but that is only good, if you are there, when it is actually happening. If we stop it from getting here, we stop them from using it!! Plain and simple!!!

There is not a sovereign nation in existence that will 'invite' a foreign military into their hinterland for _any_ reason, even to solve something as tough as drug trafficking. Kennedy was trying to pin her down as saying a yes or no, so that he can then continue peddling misinformation (Yes, i think we should -> Then why havent you done what would work? / No, i don't believe we should -> Why do you deny that this solution will work?) The fact that 'the solution' proposed wouldn't have passed muster in a third grade classroom is superfluous.
The correct answer is less polite, but more honest - "Sir, invading a friendly nation with out military and enforcement will not solve fentanyl drug trafficking; what will is making it horribly expensive and prohibitive to even _try._" Because, as long as there exists a potential profitable market for those drugs, there WILL be a way for them to be trafficked; it's too lucrative a business model not to.
But conservative republicans don't care about policy. They care about soundbites and gotcha moments, because they peddle their actions to the reactionaries and the idiots. They've long since abdicated any ground on improving the life of the common citizen.

It is my experience in life that when the powers that be in government, regardless of whether it's local, state, or, in this case, federal want to implement something badly enough, it's damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead, as Admiral David Farragut so boldly asserted in Mobile Bay. When these same powers don't want something done badly enough, they will use any array of excuses to either delay, water down, or prevent something from happening or being implemented. God bless Senator Kennedy, one of the few politicians who always gets right to the point and is a true patriot.
