  • 'What is Spondylosis?' is a question I have often been asked. sinimlar questions are स्पाॉडिलोसिस म्हणजे काय? What is lumbar Spondylosis? What is cervical spondylosis?
    This is an educational video for the patient suffering from spine problems or for medical students who wish to understand the subject better.
    Spondylosis means arthritis affecting the spine. It is usually in the neck (cervical spondylosis) or blow back area (lumbar spondylosis). It is generally associated with age-related changes in the intervertebral discs. With age, there is wear and tear of the cartilage, they shrink and cause bony changes in the adjacent vertebrae in the form of spurs. This can cause narrowing of the space occupied by the spinal cord and nerves, leading to symptoms like tingling and numbness in the hand or legs, weak hand grip, difficulty in buttoning shirt, loss of balance, loss of joint sensation, slipping of chappals (flip-flops) from the legs, loss of bowel or bladder control etc. In the initial part of this process, there are no symptoms. Appearance of symptoms indicate either a cord compression (myelopathy) or nerve root compression (Radiculopathy).
    . If the compression and pinching of the cord due to spondylosis is not taken care of in time, the neurons slowly die and recovery may not be that satisfactory and complete. Treatment for spondylosis is spine decompression. This may also need fixation with screws and plates to help stabilise the spine. Spondylosis may thus be a reversible condition if treated in time, or has the potential to become serious.
    Spondylolisthesis is caused when one vertebral body moves over another either forward or backward, because of degeneration, fracture, abnormal tensions acting on the body because of abdominal obesity etc.

      Hi Giridhar Kavi! Thanks for writing in. Spondylosis is age related. So its difficult to stop it. Some people have grey hair early, and others have dark hair till their 60s! However, spondylosis can be delayed by adopting good posture, adding core strength, and generally being physically active. A strong muscular ( I don't mean bulk) structure helps.
      About webinars...I don't know...we are so besieged by them now... perhaps at a later date!

      Unfortunately, all medical treatment and injections are temporary. But one must try that first, and when it fails or when you think that side effects are more than effects, you must consider surgery. In my opinion it is the only permanent solution. But the decision is yours...and must be made after all due consideration. My whatsapp number is 9011333841, in case you feel like wanting to know more.
      Watch out for an upcoming video in next few days on why MVD is my favourite treatment for TN

      @brainandspinesurgery  Před 4 lety +1

      No, unfortunately not. We have to remedy it with exercises, posture change, and if there is symptomatic spondylosis, then surgery.

    If we are diagnosed an early stage of spondylosis.. What are the most necessary actions that we should take please , in order to prevent our spine from getting worse....

    • @brainandspinesurgery
      @brainandspinesurgery  Před 2 lety +1

      Have a re-look at your posture, habits, weight etc. Increase your core strength. Spondylosis is a process of aging. It cannot be prevented. Only some spondylosis lead to symptoms which need treatment.
