All that work for $141. And you haven't even sold the cards yet. I think you might want to think hard about your career choices. WotC wants you poor. Thanks for the vid though.
Missed the whole concept of the video thanks for the view
You are correct. Money can be made in bulk but the bulk needs to be purchased at a bulk rate not mass box opened. 2nd hand market is where stores should be making their profit, grading cards and buying out collections. And the fees for leasing a sorter are so high I'm not sure how enough volume can be sourced to make it profitable.
Greatly appreciated seeing all the hard work dedication and process it takes operating portions of the business. Keep up the great content! #CardShopLife😜
I could literally sit and watch something like this for every set that comes out for every product! Would be a fun series. Whether its cases of Magic, Pokemon, Dragon Ball Super, Digimon, any of it would be a fun and educational watch. Another good video could be a TCGPlayer direct tutorial. I know I have boxes of bulk I am sitting on and it would help in knowing how direct works to see if its the best route to go with it. Thanks for the great content!
Yea that could be a fun thing to try out.
Awesome video! Love the reality you show
Great video! Shared with my boy who wants to do it as a side hustle.
Crackin packs, come right back!
If you're coming to Vegas you gotta go to darkside games on las Vegas blvd probably the nicest store we got out here although the staff has declined in helpfulness the last few months
Are they still chill? I live in Vegas and just started playing mtg
Hell yeah!!!
Always great behind the scenes look at owning a store or working towards opening one, but the math is wrong.
Purchase price $1728
Value 2214 - 20% fees = $1782
Your right my math was off lol
Unfortunately 20% is a low estimate in terms of fees when it comes to TCGDirect. I have busted 100s of boxes and sell EVERY card that I can. The fees on the lower end of the spectrum are 30% up to 50% depending on how bad of a break it was. You also have to consider that you pay the TCG Direct fees then you ALSO have to pay Shipping to get your orders to the TCGPlayer. Depending on the value of the shipment, the cost is anywhere from 8 dollars up to 25 dollars with a flat rate cost and insurance. Ive been selling cards for a while and its becoming increasingly difficult to make a profit through TCG Direct, we pay for the convenience while they make all the profit.
I'm not trying to be pessimistic, I know and understand the struggle and I'm quite certain you do alot more volume than I do. I just dislike how the people who care for the aftermarket are constantly getting shivved to death because we care about the game and we care about the players. We want to provide cards for people but also we have to make a profit or we cant continue to do what we do.
@@tcgfunkytown724 if you have a brick an mortar or an easier way to push those higher value cards that’s when it becomes profitable. I try to sell only cards valued under a certain amount or surplus.
@@rng-gamez for sure brick and mortar is the best option. Selling cards for 20% off market is still profitable in an lgs situation.
My goal was to open an lgs at some point in time its just a really difficult market to be in at the moment. I know I would do well but Magic is hurting because of the rapid-fire sets they are pushing out. People can't keep up with the amount of cards being released.
@@tcgfunkytown724 that’s if you only do magic too, imagine doing Pokémon yougioh and all the others too, almost a release every other week
Question, how are the values for commons/uncommons calculated? Is it strictly market price or does it calculate a bulk price under a certain threshold? For example, a 7 cent common won’t actually get you 7cents if you’re just bulking out cards under a quarter or 50 cents
We’ve notice bulk is pretty impressive for Double Feature
Yea that’s money bulk
So when you 'sort' the cards, are you hand jamming them into the database per-card in order to calculate the total? Or is there some sort of automation that helps...
Honeymoon in Vegas!! Let’s go check out a cool game store and eat some In n Out Burger!
Thank you sir
#cardshoplife love the videos dude
Hi Rob! When doing mass openings, do you ever set aside cards you feel are underpriced in the market and wait to sell them when when they appreciate?
If I think a card is undervalued i just save it for in store purchases only so my local players can pick up some undervalued cards rather than blow them out online
I swear I’m making money on baldurs gate set boxes. So many commons uncommons with value. And so many uncommon $5 fouls
That’s the next mass box opening video!! But I’m doing 300 pre release kits
@@rng-gamez also I know it’s hard to calculate but you can’t forget the “direct premium” that us direct sellers can charge on cards just for being direct
Would you coincider opening a few cases of pokemon lost orgin?
As of right now Pokémon isn’t worth it for a game store. Things might change in the future but as of right now it isn’t.
What machine are you talking about? Have you done a video on it before?
You take that 5%
Store would look so much better and more efficient and newbie friendly if the tables were on the wall separately to people could have their own space
This was a while ago and it has changed, it’s always changing.
Eww. The rocka sorter? That thing is so slow and takes up too much space.
The USPS service figured out how to sort tons of flat pieces of paper/cardboard a long time ago. Might want to look into getting a sorter that works in a similar way.
Hahaha
For an LGS is there any financial viability to doing this with pokemon?
Only first week of a sets release
@@rng-gamez How many boxes do you typically open for a pokemon set?
@@rileysmith2089 right now none.
I noticed you said always open set boosters, why is that?
List slot has good value that can’t be calculated in EV
What is this machine you keep talking about? I’m super curious
Roca Sorter
do you still make more money online than in the store?
I’d say it’s 50/50
17:21
2073-1728=1250
It would only be like 60 bucks. Math is off. Plus that machine is expensive. Probably lost a decent amount of money, not including your time. Still fun video to watch. Seems really tough running a profitable lgs.
Yea it can be my math was off a bit, but i just wanted to show people on a really low EV set.
Getting dizzy with the back and forth walking. Great content none the less.
Timespiral remastered. Check and mate
Can’t get it I wish …. Lol
@@rng-gamez not at $400 a box CAD lol
@@sewhitewolf there is none on the market even at my level
I would not open boxes for singles it’s a huge waste of time
It’s fun!
@@rng-gamez in that case it makes sense. But from a time conservation and maximizing your profits I would try a different angle. But yes the latter is more fun.
If I decide to open a store then I’m coming out to see you and pick your brain. In return, I’m going to show you how to make money.
So you pay yourself like $5 an hour?
If you compartmentalize only this portion of the business than yes.
