I actually own one of these. I bought it in 1989 for $299. I’ve always liked quirky guns, and have quite a few that most people have never seen. Thanks for the video, enjoyable as always.
WHo else grew up in the '80's? Remember popping those cassette tabs out after recording your songs from the radio so it lasts forever, then scotch taping the tabs to record over it later?
I was a cop back then, I remember these being sold to cops for backup weapons. I thought it was silly then, too. Instead I got a PPK/S .380, which I carried until just a few years ago when I got a modern 9mm compact pistol.
Did you have good reliability with yours? I had the same pistol (Interarms) and I could not find a round it would feed reliably. It's one of only two guns I've ever sold. I was in love with it when I got it, but between feeding issues and the snapiness I was not a fan. We are spoiled today with much better compact carry options.
@@festerofest4374 It sucked with hollow point ammo. Jacketed round nose was fine. Some guys said they had success with hollow points that were filled with a plastic nub that made it feed like a round nose. Now I have a P365 and absolutely love it!
@@TStheDeplorable Right on. As a carry weapon I insisted on trying to find a hollow point load that would work... so because I couldn't I felt the gun didn't fill its purpose. Yes... I got the 365XL and it's so perfect IMO. I lost 25 lbs and can carry appendix now instead of 4 o'clock lol.
as a scout main in tf2, i would love to have one of those guns but only as a collectors item. and despite it being kinda bad in the game its still my favorite just by how cool it looks. also im very happy to see someone acknowledge the kinda-ish obscure in-game reference this gun gets. LONG LIVE THE SHORT STOP.
It was also used by Leon in the first 20 minutes of Blade Runner. One also found its way into the remake of Battlestar Galactica as a civilian weapon. Back in the nineties my local gun shop even managed to have one but the trigger pull is the worst I have ever tried on any functioning firearm.
Trigger pull: The revolver I carry normally has a double action.trigger pull of (electronic Wheeler brand measuring device, average of five pulls) 9 pounds, 1 ounce. It shoots well. I have to agree with the speaker. Very well made. Quite sturdy. Of very little use. Interesting history. The COP pistol was 'inspired' by the Mossberg Brownie; which was in turn an updated version of the Sharps four barrel derringer. The Sharps and the Mossberg demonstrated a better sales level. The COP is a collector's item much as is the Gyro Jet. Another great idea that didn't work.
Shot one these last year: 8 rounds of .357 magnum, original skinny metal grip, egged on by my "friend" who admitted later that he only fires 38s through it. I've shot .357 in small revolvers before but the monster trigger in the COP does something to weaken your hand at exactly the wrong moment. I had trouble tying my shoes the next week and, swear to God, it was a couple months before my right hand was full strength. Ridiculous gun but I can actually see it's use as an adrenalin-fuelled Get Off Me piece that can be pocket carried safely without a holster.
Just had the 22lr Mossberg version of this grenade in my hand and try to rip my finger off as it clamshelled open. I cant even IMAGINE if it had been a 357! 😂
For the use, the gun does make sense. 4 shot backup weapon for police that can't be stopped in a struggle, no cylinder or cycle to impede, no getting pushed out of battery. On paper, it's brilliant. In practice, this gun was always the most interesting member of the crap row in pawnshops. Always used to see these in pawnshops, and they were always cuddled up with Lorcin and Llama
Don't quote me on this but I think point shooting used to be a big thing with the police force, so having something that's not really trimmed for high accuracy would make sense. A trigger this heavy also makes for a fairly good safety without actually using a safety, i.e. You could carry it cocked and loaded knowing that even if you got it snagged on something it would be almost impossible for it to go off without you meaning for it to while still enabling you to simply draw and fire quickly. I'm not nesseccarily saying that that's a good philosophy but it may have been a reasonable thought at the time.
I love my COP derringer! Terrible trigger, but good for winter coat pocket carry when I'm just out walking the dogs. Also fun reference: it was used in the Matrix Reloaded movie when whats-her-name killed the "werewolf" guy with the silver bullet.
There are indeed things from the 1980s I'd like to forget (my first marriage ...) but the hair and the music? No, man, '80s girls were hot in a way we just don't see anymore and the music is STILL the best music ever. Fun fact: That COP derringer was used in the movie Blade Runner. It was the gun Leon (replicant) used to kill the first Blade Runner. IIRC it was rigged to fire two blanks at a time for added flash and effect. It looked tiny in Brion James's huge mits.
The DeLorean was a "cool" car, but they were a piece of crap. That's why they didn't last long in the automotive industry. As for the music in the 80's, the rock and metal was good. 80% of the pop music was absolutely horrific. I grew up in the 80's, so I remember it all too well. 🤣
The Shortstop used to be my go-to gun for Scout, but it underwent some nerfs. Now you take WAY too much knockback from enemies, making it more of a gimmick than a viable option.
I had a COP, back in 1983, it was my edc, it was not designed for anything more than getting someone off of you, i.e. muzzle contact with the person trying to do you bodily harm. It is primary a backup, not shooting at anything more than 5 feet away. The COP was recalled due to accidental discharge if dropped and it lands on the breach muzle pointed up. As i have intimate knowledge of this "problem". I came home late Sunday night around midnight, took my COP out of my right hip pocket and placed it on my antique mans dresser, the gun slid off the top of my dresser i didn't attempt to catch it but steped back about a foot, the COP hit the floor muzzle up and discharged a 125gr SuperVel, that hit the lower drawer where it left a 5 inch curved gouge in the face of the drawer, and the jacket sepersted from the lead core, the core went in to the closet to my right, the copper jacket hit me squarley on my left testicle, cut my Levis, did not penetrate and dropped to the floor. It left the nastyest blood blister/bruse you can only imagine on my left testicle, and powder flakes in my face. The next morning a Monday, as soon as my gun shop opened i traded it for a S&W Model 60, we were looking at when i bought the COP. It was recalled a month or so after that eyeopening event. It stayed in the display case for a couple of year, everything but the sales recipe eas with it. I don't remember how much in trade i got for it but i would have given it to them if needed. Oh by the way i did qualify on a standard police cource with it too. I still have the S&W Model 60, and a memory of the COP.
I had one of those back in the '90's. I shot it at the range a few times until something went wrong with the firing mechanism. Traded it away somewhere.
It made a sort of sense in the early 1980's. Most officers carried .38 Special or .357 Magnum revolvers. Having a back-up that fired the same cartridge made sense. There were few high power, ultra compact, semi-autos at the time. Back-up weapons are a 'get off me' weapon. There is nothing of the gun to snag if pulling from a pocket. The trigger can't be blocked . In a fight, if you slide gets pushed back or you jam it against your target, the gun will be out of battery and won't fire. If you opponent grabs the frame of your revolver and keeps the cylinder from turning, the gun won't fire. I was a police officer for 24 years. During training I was able to do both to armed opponents. At 3-7 yards, even keyholing, .357 Magnum, is effective. I have one and have never had a mis-fire or any issues with it. Recoil is a bit stout firing 158gr .357. With departments going top semi-autos and the proliferation of ultra-compact 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45ACPs, this weapon lost its place.
I owned one of these in the early 80s. They were made in Torrance, CA where I lived. My father was a master machinist and was friends with the guys in the machine shop that made these. Was given to me by my father. These guys were aerospace machinists and wanted to make something crazy. Had a rotating firing pin and would misfire a lot. Was well made stainless and weighed a ton. Did not shoot very well. Came in an aluminum blue velvet lined presentation box. I sent a letter into guns & ammo magizine at the time to see what they had to say about this thing. They ended up printing a story and photo about this gun. After the magizine came out I got several phone calls from as far away as South Carolina from collectors wanting to know if I wanted to sell. I actually ended up selling it in 2010 to large dealer in so. Cal for well over a $1000. Kinda wish I would have kept it as a collectors item now. I’ve seen a couple NIB sell at auction for $2500+ Not very many of these were made.
Wow, you are back! Something went wrong with Chrome and most of your video's including new uploads was blocked. I tried EDGE and all are back to normal. What a bunch of crap! Thanks for the content, love it as always..
That handgun is really cool. It only needs laser sights, shell ejection when top-breaking for reloading and... maybe, a speed loader like the revolver? Just ideas. Also, imagine this in shotgun mode. Pretty neat.
The Shortstop in TF2 functions like a shotgun, but I suppose you could say it's loaded with snakeshot for realism's sake. It's not a great weapon in the game because the special ability it comes with is that it allows the player to... shove their opponent. It's not very useful.
In the 80s, when those came out, they were advertised as a backup and or deep cover .357 magnum ( Dirty Harry era ) I picked one up at my local gun store and I was allowed to dry fire it...well, I had to use 2 fingers. lol.. I bought a snb nosed .38 instead.
Well i was a 80s baby but grew up in the 90s an i absolutely love the hair the music ( especially the music) an the cars an the drugs were real back then 😂everything was super dope...if i could go back to 80s as an adult i stay an never leave
Big thanks to your video. It's short and informative. To be honest, I think if snubnose revolver is okay, this can be okay too. You have somewhat showed that, by literally make a square on the plate. Well, the hit point is further from where you aim so it's a little hard to be accurate but in theory, it can be accurate. 20ft is test seems to be okay. Due to this gun has 4 barrels, grouping of the gun is grouping of 4 barrels, not 1. But somehow, vertical dispersion seems to be a lot tighter than horizontal. The rest of info like trigger weight, big grip and the barrel sometime keyhole the bullet, are all informative
I have one of these 😂. Believe that the trigger sucks. It is seriously exhausting for your trigger finger. One thing that wasn’t talked about is that a full 357 magnum will about break your wrist. There is nothing to soak up recoil. I made that mistake once…..just once. It is a beautiful looking weapon. It sits in my safe. It was featured in the second Matrix movie and at the end of the first Bad Boys flix. Thanks for the history info.
In game, it shoots rat shot and is used a your primary weapon in place of your scattergun (double barrel lever action) it's got better range than the other primaries, but has no real benefit. You can also shove people if you have it, but it's hard to do and they don't go far
First 3 of these I saw I bought (still have) I did some work on the trigger and got it much better (6/8 pound) still carry one as a back up 😊. I ended up with 5 my buddy got frustrated at his and gave it to me
That’s what I was hoping I was going to read. I was thinking that the trigger was lawyered up. With an acceptable trigger it sounds like a good backup gun at close distance.
That is a very interesting gun. Reminds me of the stuff my grandfather had in the 60's. He was an FFL up in Nashville and sold to quite a few LE up there. Shame you cant work that trigger a little, but I guess its the nature of it. The trigger is rotating the striker, as well as pulling back the hammer. It is a good looking thing. Clean, and well engineered. I looked , and there are none available now. But yea, selling anywhere from 1100 up to 1900 I think I saw. Who knew weapons were such a good investment. I bought two Yugo SKS's when they were put on the C&R list about 25 years or so ago. Both were unissued. Paid 75.00 each for them. Wish I had bought 100 of them. I sold 1 last year for 800.00. Great content as always. Thank you.
Outstanding video. Great call about 1980’s music. I do love “Billie Jean” and “Smooth Operator” though. They can be honorary 70’s songs though. 80’s clothes were the worst except for those “freaky freezy” gloves that changed colors in the cold.
@@bscar I hear you. Gen X was a really fun atmosphere as a kid. Jordans, GI Joe, Hulk Hogan, etcetera. But we had like 2 cool clothes: denim jackets and addidas shell toes
@@LikeLikeLikeLikeLi denim and neon lights are what I think about when I think 80s. I was born 1980 so I got to experience both 80s and 90s growing up. Big hair, synthesizers, larger than life action heroes and cheesy cartoons that were little more than half hour toy commercials. That gave way to the blue and purple squiggly line Starter jacket, shoulder pads, beginnings of rap/hiphop music, Reebok Pumps, trapper keepers and some kick ass cartoons not wanting to sell toys, but that seemed to grow up with us growing up as well(Goof Troop, Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain)
What’s up my old security system friend. Really would like to reconnect and chat. Hope to hear back. Love all the videos and what you are doing! Keep it up.
My Dad (Vietnam Vet) always carried this gun in his right pocket every time he left the house. Back in the 80s he was drinking at a Tavern in Chicago and some gangbanger walked up behind him and stabbed him in the side and my dad turned around and drew his Derringer and unloaded it into the guy that stabbed him. I remember my ma getting a call from the police and hospital about what happened and rushed up there to see my Pop.
Um....I was about to subscribe....but how do you have this huge of a following....and you haven't reviewed or shot the henry ar7?? SHEESH you can borrow mine lol
Honestly if im pulling that thing, your in hand to hand distance and were prolly actively fighting..in that situation i perfer the weapon to have an really heavy trigger cause ya might nit wanna send a round into the person or yourself.. Great little gun i love quirky weird stuff especially when its well made
I fired one that a brother of mine owned, when I got off active duty Army. His 'off duty gun'. Monstrously heavy trigger pull. An extremely long trigger pull also. It's relatively easy to shoot with 38 special, but it was a different game when we dropped in some 158 grain 357 magnum rounds. It bucked far worse than my original Charter Arms 44 Bulldog. If I was a Clampett, I would call that derringer a "Disastree"!!!
Loads heavier and blockier than a .38/.357 jframe, with one less rounds and a heavier trigger to boot. They do have funk factor and for many, that's all that's required.
I also got mine from my uncle back in the late seventies. Had it for 45 yrs. But mine has nowhere near 18 lb trigger pull. Probably closer to 10 lb. For close quarter work it's fairly accurate. I can keep them in a 12 inch target at 5 yrds (15ft) most of the time. Are there better guns out there to fit the same purpose? Of course but I would argue not as cool.
My dad has a cop 357. He got it when he was a cop. I was reaally hoping that he would give it to me when I graduated the police academy. Nope. Dont you dare slight the Delorean. Thats a cool car
I never shot one of these, but did have the "pleasure" of shooting the High Standard .22 Magnum 2 shot derringer. I'll bet that that little monster easily had a 20 pound trigger, sometimes I couldn't get it to fire at all. I am a large man with 2XL sized hands and had to stop shooting it after only 10 rounds or so. Do you have one of those to review?
Its for compact ultra defensive use where a threat is only going to be 3 feet away or less and fast engagement, no need to aim with sights, just point and bang

Really good RickRoll! I did not see it coming 😅
Well i was a 80s baby but grew up in the 90s an i absolutely love the hair the music ( especially the music) an the cars an the drugs were real back then 😂everything was super dope...if i could go back to 80s as an adult i stay an never leave
Damn never thought I'd be truck rolled in a 22plinkster video. 😂😂
I'm the same way hoss. I like the weird stuff that u do t see everyday.
I own one. I bought it in the early '90s. I did carry it for a while. It was easy to conceal but it was just too heavy for concealed carry.
No way I just got Rick rolled but the deloreon will never be forgotten
That was a fun video, Thanks
I remember when these came out
I have one of these 😂.
I always wanted one of these things.
I remember seeing those in the gun ads back then, am that old. No reason to carry one but interesting 😅
That's the gun the bad guy pulled out at the end of the movie Bad Boys!
Super cool pistol. I like odd guns too
Good job on the video
In game, it shoots rat shot and is used a your primary weapon in place of your scattergun (double barrel lever action) it's got better range than the other primaries, but has no real benefit. You can also shove people if you have it, but it's hard to do and they don't go far
First time i saw this gun was in Bad Boys 1 towards the end of the movie when its pulled out by the bad guy as a back up gun... cool either way!
As an edc id prefer the PPK or the Makarov, but to each his own.
Thank you.
Some of the Best High performance Motorcycles were produced in the 80's. A fine example is the Yamaha FJ1200
Wanted one ever since i saw it in Bad Boys.
Outstanding video. Great call about 1980’s music. I do love “Billie Jean” and “Smooth Operator” though. They can be honorary 70’s songs though. 80’s clothes were the worst except for those “freaky freezy” gloves that changed colors in the cold.
Denim jean jackets weren't as bad as whatever it was those Starter jackets were made of that we had in the 90s.
80s music rulz!
Thank you !
Awesome firearm
Vatos locos forever homie
Ride on guy that's a really weird but cool gun no wonder I subscribe to your channel thank you
Looks pretty cool to me
Can we see a video on the Browning T-Bolt either 22LR or 17HMR?
Great little gun i love quirky weird stuff especially when its well made
I had one of these it literally had a 20 lbs trigger pull and was very inaccurate. It was very well made though.
Yes 80s pop sucked but 80s Rock is still playing
90’s Pop was better ❤️
@@melissasmess2773 no can't be that would include the boy bands like nsync
Now hey, dont you be shiting on rick Astley plinkster , he's a god damn national treasure 😂
What this gun needs is a feature that allows all four barrels to fire at the same time. 😂😂
Looked like your trigger pressure machine was about to break on the COP's trigger!
I wish Bond Arms would make an updated/improved version of this. 1st idea-maybe instead of a super-heavy trigger, how about a grip safety.
My dad has a cop 357. He got it when he was a cop. I was reaally hoping that he would give it to me when I graduated the police academy. Nope.
Dont you dare slight the Delorean. Thats a cool car
This gun is the one that the bad guy have at the end of bad boys 1!! Like 30 years later I knew what gun it was 😅
$2,000! Now I wish I had held on to it.
This gun makes me think of the matrix reloaded 🔥🔥🤘 the best one imo
Ah, the 80's. "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." Put Rick Astley next to "Welcome to the Jungle".
Its for compact ultra defensive use where a threat is only going to be 3 feet away or less and fast engagement, no need to aim with sights, just point and bang
My memory is spotty but I think this or one like it was used at the end of the "Bad Boys" movie, I remember 4 barrels anyway.
