    Rogues use minor shadow magic to make themselves unseen, vanish into thin air, teleport above unsuspecting targets or temporarily negate magic damage. The rest of their abilities are from their weapon of choice and combat skill.
    You also forgot that Rogues fight dirty such as blinding a target, cheap shot to either distract or stun, they can kick you to interrupt spell casting or channeling, use poisons to make the job easier and of course disarm you. They are also able to create weaknesses in their targets like expose their armor, slow you to a crawl or cause a bleeding wound.
    The greatest thing about a Rogue is that he/she takes full advantage of the element of surprise, the first hit from stealth is generally their forte; since you'll never see a Rogue run up to you and start hitting you.
    So I say that Rogues can't exactly be called Pirates or Bandits or whatever the game says. Its a fighting style that fits certain characters that operate in a specific job. They can assassinate, spy or infiltrate so I don't see a dirt poor Bandit or a rum slugging Pirate being able to pull of what Rogues can do.

    A rogue could kill any caster that’s unaware. A typical rogue could sneak from the shadows and slit a caster’s throat. You cant cast magic when you can’t speak. And a rogue can do just that.
    Same applies with any leather class, save for hunter who has a pet that could track invisible.
    Regarding plate wearers. Warrior/DK/paladin, it’s likely they’ll win.
    DH who can see invisible targets would win 100% of the time. Especially if they could eye beam a stealthed rogue and just fly away.

      + throwmeaname this is not true! the blood of a caster like a warlock is inflicted with fell magic so a simple throat slit won't be enough to kill before the warlock can defend himself! fell also defends good against posions. Same goes for a shadow priest who get's his power frome the void and the madness. A classical Mage could have a problem against a rouge but normaley the classic mage has a magical shield all the time up which easily and passively blocks a sneak attack. All these casters have magical warded homes or warded places when they sleep so it is almost impossible to sneak attack them when they sleep.

    This video doesn't talk about tauren rogues, because they're so powerful and skilled they're barely the same class, that's why Blizzard couldn't make them playable. But they're still around, that's why we're able to "defeat" so many powerful raid bosses that should be out of our league. Illidan? Tauren rogue. Archimonde? Tauren rogue. Sargeras? The other titans didn't actually get him to reveal himself and then pull him away, a tauren rogue cast Distract to get him to get out his cloud and turn around, then another tauren rogue used their grappling hook while holding onto him. IMO the Legion version of Sub Rogues have the most access to powerful abilities since they seem to literally use a bit of Shadow Magic in their work, although it is more so used to conceal themselves and dance in the shadows (albeit this plays into their strength by allowing them to constantly strike from multiple angles out of the shadows).
    Rogues in general are an interesting topic to look at in power scaling because they almost entirely depend on environment and getting the first strike. I would think they'd have a decent chance against Death Knights to counter what you said, DKs don't inherently have a greater sense of detecting Rogues and despite their armor and unholy magic keeping their defenses strong, a wise Rogue could always develop some sort of poison that's effective against them. DHs though are the natural counter given their better mobility and demonic vision countering stealth.
    You also mentioned them being at a disadvantage against magic wielding classes, but if we consider the Cloak of Shadows spell to be canon, that does give them a safety net to evade deadly spells and/or escape back to the shadows to get another opportunity at an ambush

    You start out by talking about Rogues lore wise, but then you compare Rogues against other classes gameplay wise. Lore wise a Rogue can kill anyone that is killable. Granted Hunters and Demon Hunters would have the advantage of sensing the Rogue rather quickly. But lore wise, a Rogue would most likely have techniques to disarm them aswell. Such as loud noises against the blind Demon Hunter.
    Also, lore wise, a gun shot or and arrow cannot be dodged, what the hell was that.

    Your life is more important than the fairness of the duel. (only warriors can deny this)

    In Wrath of the Lich King forsaken's blight seemed to work pretty well against living and the undead. It even made the Lich King itself back down. I can admit that rogues are definitely underdogs in many scenarios, but they usually get to choose the scenario in their favor :P

  • @Srab23
    @Srab23 Před 5 lety +1

    I think a skilled rogue could kill any other class if he had time to prepare. What makes rogues dangerous is how they prepare, spy and wait for just the right chance to strike.
    A skilled rogue would not find a duel, he would slit a mages throat while he rested or was deep into some research, or even fighting someone else. Warlocks are frail and could probably not stand up well to a good sneak attack either. I am also certain a rogue would find some obscure and devious toxin that can harm an undead, such as a powerful acid or some magic holy oil, so I don't think death knights are completely fine either. Remember, Sylvanas hit Arthas with an arrow coated in some nasty toxin which almost killed him in WC3 The frozen Throne.
    Hunters would probably be the trickiest due to having a beast with heightened senses around him at all time, as well as having a good survival instinct. I imagine a hunter would get some gut feeling, or notice something in the terrain that is not entirely natural, or just cover his back with traps.
    All in all I think rogues can defeat almost any opponent, and would not challenge one he could not in the first place. This is what makes rogues so dangerous, they're clever and will find something to exploit, or simply stay away to save his hide. I don't think your average rogue would ever attempt to assassinate a Death knight or Demon hunter in the first place, but if he did, the fight would happen on his terms

  • @aandrenery
    @aandrenery Před 6 lety +3

    Remember that Rogues can throw poisoned daggers. So they could avoid a spell that would have a travel speed and be visible (like Frostbolt ou Fireball) and throw a dagger to poison the caster. If the caster had not a barrier up he would probably be dead (or too week) to even cast a second time.
    That would be much harder for spells that have no travel nor cast time like dots and Fire Blast and Conflagrate

    Also not related to power scalings, but I feel as though lorewise Rogue is the most accessible class overall and has the most strategic planning. Obviously any of the magic classes requires some special attunement and Warriors/Monks have a very elite set of combat regiment that pretty much requires a lifetime of training. Rogues on the other hand don't really have a combat style that requires a whole lot of training, just a general sense of melee combat and a cunning mind that knows how to exploit their enemies' weaknesses and the environment. That to me makes their combat feel more visceral.

      I think the point is to consider the ideals of the Rogue archetype, aka stealth, ambush, poisons, and getting in as many cheap shots as possible. Obviously with every class there are different varieties of their skillsets although some classes are a bit more pigeonholed than others (i.e. Demon Hunters are mostly mobile fighters skilled in blade combat and chaotic magic for both specs), but the idea is to factor in their primary skillsets when compared to that of other classes/archetypes.
      And in that regard, the "Rogue" archetype always has a unique role in power dynamics since they have to rely on specific circumstances that exploit their enemies rather than straight-up combat. Unless they're completely immune to harm, even the strongest enemies can be overcome by an expertly strategic rogue getting in the decisive strike from the shadows.

    I think you've talked about the rogues as if they only knew how to go stealth and that's it and you've forgotten a bit about the outlaw specialization, which basically is a rogue more focused on fighting with agility rather than strength (which is what I would do a warrior), in fact is the "successor" of the specialization called COMBAT, in a match between a rogue and a warrior would be matched in terms of skill and everything would depend on the warrior's team (an impenetrable armor of plates would fuck a lot to a rogue).
    And regarding the hunter, I think you said basically because in the game, these have always been the killers of rogues par excellence, because a rogue can also use firearms (COMBAT ... again), really the only thing that could pose a problem to the rogue is the tracking ability of the hunter to detect beasts (or in this case, the rogue) but otherwise they are quite even.
    In the case of the druid that transforms into a bird, as you said, a good flying dagger or a weapon would solve the problem, in the case of the bear, again poison in the form of a flying dagger, or the hunter's favorite method, a good shot (after all, a druid in the form of a bear is basically a bigger bear with the intelligence of one of the playable races, but as vulnerable as any other).
    But my best argument is this: with superpowers or without them, a dagger that traverses your windpipe kills you in the same way, unless you have armor around your neck, or have a shield of energy until you defecate (which I doubt).

    Batman is basically a Rogue. This is why I think it all depends on the Rogue. I mean are we talking about The Dark Knight, or some pirate. One aspect I believe was overlooked was the cunning/tactician factor that a rogue could possess; he's not going to try to duel an armor-clad Warrior, he's going to kill him in his sleep.

    the main problems with "power level" is that it's impossible to know, example a true rogue is the type of "warrior" that doesn't fight their job is to infiltrate and eliminate, so they can technical defeat any single target, given the right tools
    they have a job, now how you quantify power like that, they can kill any of the classes (except the demon hunter and the death knight) with one fast knife throw to the head,
    so i dont think its possible to say how "powerful" a rogue is
    but you can see how consistently they can win
    yes they can kill any one with the right tools, but that is the thing, they dont always have that
    so a rogue is a very "powerful" class in the right situation and a average class in the rest
    (also killing them is quite hard, being that they are very good at running away as well)

    Wow really didn't think this one trough
    Even wearing mail and plate they would be as fast and as agile as in cloth, only leather, depending on the type, would present an issue(like boiled/tough leather)
    Many games do mess this up and it's kinda stupid, like they give warriors and paladins full plate armor AND a shield.. like why would they need a shield in full plate armor, but they give shamans who dual wield and hunters who shoot arrows mail? Well that doesn't make any sense, why would they wear mail if plate exists in that universe :|
    Same goes for mages/priests/warlocks.. why are they not just wearing full plate when it already exists lol

    • @devin6968
      @devin6968 Před 6 lety

      Your comment doesn't make much sense
      looking at it with somewhat realistic constraints, even though its been proven that you can move effectively in heavy armor it still wears you out quickly, and for the general concept of rogues getting tired means you slow down and die
      The case of shields and plate armor doesnt make much sense in real life terms like you say but in terms of a game universe it can be pretty useful to block spells and to fight some creatures.
      Plate is also very impractical in many situations, most likely most mages, priests and warlocks would not be practicing their magic in full plate and would most likely not even be able to effectively wear plate. in regards of hunters a, it doesnt make much sense for them to even wear mail yet alone plate. Hunting animals in metal armor is a terrible idea, animals would hear them and they would be more exposed to the elements due to this armor type. Shamans it could make sense for enhancement spec to wear plate but the other types should wear cloth for similar reasons to the other magic classes.
      Its logical for people like thrall or paladins to wield magic and use heavy armor effectively as they have received special and intense training due to what they are .
      also plate armor is very expensive compared to the other types of armor so its likely not everyone can afford to use plate armor

    • @The-eo4lj
      @The-eo4lj Před 6 lety

      Yeah some of what you said is true but there is no such a thing as "heavy armor", real armor, when you wear it, you don't even feel it's on you, similar to cloth, so it really won't tire you much faster than if you were wearing absolutely nothing
      Regarding spell casters in WoW, the way they cast magic is .. well.. they do chants and they stay in place.. so.. wearing armor would not represent an issue AT ALL.. about hunters, plate armor doesn't make a sound when you wear it :/ no armor does, you can easily sneak up in it, well, depends on what boots you are wearing, but anyway I was talking about hunters in combat(versus other humans/classes not sneaking up on a beast)
      You don't need to have a training to wear armor, it's light, and well distributed around your body (talking about medieval European armor)
      Now if we talk about WoW armor, yeah, you'd need superhuman strength(that some WoW races, more like species, have) to wear it, that shit looks like they are wearing bathtubs on their shoulders lol

    • @The-eo4lj
      @The-eo4lj Před 6 lety

    I think the logic in your videos is a little bit confusing.
    1. What abilitys are considered when speaking of an ,,average rogue'' or an
    ,, average'' - insert class? How do you know a rogue is weak or normal or skilled?
    2. I think you're overestimating magic too much. Why do you think casters are so much above Melee or non magic classes. Because magic is powerful? Seems so but when a rogue can dodge arrows and bullets with his speed then a fireball or something wouldn't be that much of a problem because they are way slower. Also in the case of warriors, they are very resistant due to their physical power and that makes them also able to wear some of the best armour, wich protects them not only from great physical attacks but also a bit from magic. What does magic do to a body that is so much damaging? Ice bolts are pretty weak and it breaks when clashing with armour. Fire is pretty hot but its only a little moment when firebolt explodes that the armor is damaged by it and its too short to get a real burn from it. I don't think the explosion would to so much either. What does a festival rocket to a kevlar vest? Nothing. Also most spells are bound to mana and take a bit to cast or even need a spoken spell for it. A skilled melee fighter will use that to his advantage and throw a weapon or take cover prepare to dodge. Against hunters the spellcasters would have an opponent with way more speed and precision and also reach who has a powerful animal on his side mostly of the time. No way he can beat that. In the reality of the lore you have to be an incredibly skilled mage to compete with the variety of other classes. And that is very complicated because Magic needs much more study and a great little bit of talent to master properly. The most powerful of the main heroes are indeed magic users like Thrall or jaina at the moment but that speaks not of the normal battles and duels of the average and good fighters of Azeroth.

    A rogue taking a fair 1 on 1 fight is not a rogue but a dumb person seeking death. imo, only plate wearers and demon hunters have a strong advantage against them because it's a lot harder to make a good stab when someone is clad in plate and demon hunters can detect them easily. Normal hunters have a chance if their pet is good at detection and cloth wearers better pray the first stab/slash isn't instant death if they want a chance to survive. When it comes to death knights, it's the deathstalkers that can take them down due to apothecary poisons that can kill living and undead alike. No rogue will ever take a "fair fight", no rogue will go up to their target and claim "TODAY YOU DIE", they will all start the fight via an ambush, considering anything else is pointless to me, if you fail the ambush you retreat, you only take the fight after you've delivered the first crippling blow.

    I feel like you have never pvped with a rogue to come to your conclusions about who would win in a 1v1. Also Demonhunters are stronger and more agile? Bullplop. Compare a DH to say a subtley rogue. The rogue can instantly appear behind opponents repeatedly attack from stealth even if they were not in stealth before hand and can often kill DHs in a matter of a couple of seconds. Something which a DH certainly cant do itself. Strength is something that is hard to define in these classes. but i would put money on an orc rogue in an arm wrestling match against a DH.
