- The composition and reheasal process of re-choreographing Padmavibushan Guru Kelucharan Mohaptra''s Sakhi He Geeta Govinda Ashtapadi for the aaward winning Telegu film, Swarna Kamalam by K.Viswanath.Besides editing it to fit the film's needs ( from 18 1/2 min to 7 1/2) a significant amount of footwork (jatis) were added and this is being finalized and relearsed in this rough footage of the process. Ratikant Mohapatra joins in at Guruj's request toward the later part of the composition.
At around 17:30 min in this recording, the actual filmed scene in an auditorium with Ventkatesh, Bhanupriya and director K. Viswanath visible was recorded informally and shared here for Swarna Kamalam film buffs. I thoroughly enjoyed every part of the process and it was my honor to present classical Odissi for the first time in a Telegu film and to appear as myself to inspire the herone to value her own classical dance tradition.

Just fell in love with this song after watching the movie and Sharon ma'am's dance. It was a feast to watch Odissi in the midst of Kuchipudi. Loved both dance forms. It was a great movie paying tribute to fine arts. I am not able to find the original song and dance in youtube. Can anyone upload it please.

In the Volga video of Swarna kamalam movie, this song (Odissi Dance of Sharon Ma'am) was deleted mysteriously. similarly, in the released audio album this song "Sakhi Hey Kesi" sung by Tripti Ma'am was substituted with that of P. Suseela- remix done by Keeravani. It can be discerned from the Nattuvangam in the original Vis a vis the remix one. can anyone upload the video and audio of this of the original song as picturized in the movie which is a feast to the eyes and ears.
thanks for reminding me of this. I did re edit from the original VHS and TV recordings but didn't get a round to uploading to my channel. I'll do it when I get home to Delhi, been traveling a lot recently.

Who composed this song ? In movie . It is showing that Ilayaraja has composed this song. Can you please tell the truth ?
This particular song is an Odissi dance composition of a Jayadeva Ashtapadi. the music is composed by the late great Pt Bhubaneswar MIsra, dance choreographed by Padma Vibushan Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra who made the shorter version for me for the film. original dance is 18 1/2 minutes. K Viswanath was a great human being as well as director and I will cherish his memory always

Wonderful performance Sharon Ji, I trained at Srjan Bhubaneswar last year for Odissi but couldn't complete as the Covid hit and I had to return back to UK. Do you offer online training? I wanted to ask how long u were training under Guru Ji and if you know how he was inspired to form the choreography for all of his items. Please share. Thank you
I began training with him in 1975 after seeing his 3 month workshop the previous year at Triveni Kala Sangam where I was continuing my Manipuri (main style). I took his workshop just for academic understanding of a more mainstream style and Guruji insisted I continue, record music, make costume after teaching me 3 choreographies in 2 1/2 months.
