    More our overall thoughts of the 360Fly4K rather than a detail review. The 360Fly4K is definitely aiming at the Action Cam market which is a different market to the other 360 cameras (e.g. Samsung Gear 360).
    Check out what we think about the 360Fly4K and whether we think it's a worthwhile upgrade and contender in the 360 camera market.
    More in depth look at the 360Fly4k coming soon as well as direct comparison to other 360 cameras on the market.

    The Waterproof rating for the 360fly 4K is 30 feet. The older HD model with the mic plug in was about 120 feet. Great review, very fair.

      somehow i thought it was more than that... thanks for the correction.. will have to update my video....
      I try to be as fair as possible and while it is important to know what it is not good at doing, I thought it's worthwhile to point out where it is better than the opposition so people can decide what they actually want their 360 cam for...

    • @apeacock
      @apeacock Před 8 lety +2

      Yeah, the rating went down when they added (2) small mic holes that don't need a mic plug. I was their Head of Content for 1.5 years, so I am pretty familiar with the camera.

    I need this camera to film a scale model of a location. The people figures on the model are 10 in high and i'm going to place the camera on a dolly at 5 in high. Do you think it will distort the image too much? I also need to film over a green-screen to add a background later in adobe after effects. Can I do this? I'm also concerned about the quality which doesn't seem very good in your video. Thanks

  • @daviangel
    @daviangel Před 8 lety +6

    Yeah don't see how they get away with calling it 4K since nowhere near the resolution not to mention quality in all video's I've seen from it online is quite poor even worse than 1080 HD! Softness an purple fringing is quite apparent in most the video! Anyways, great review of not only camera but included software too.

    • @apeacock
      @apeacock Před 8 lety

      the resolution is 2880x2880, which gives the necessary 8.2 million pixels to qualify for 4K, but since 22% of that square is black ( the corners) the resulting usable pixel count is around 6.2 million, way below what is considered 4K. So you are correct.

      love your videos mate and can't wait to see them in 360!!! it's definitely a hard choice... for a better quality video output, go for the Samsung (however it does have an overheating issue which blur it's video/focus when the battery heat up with usage).... if you don't have a Samsung compatible phone for the Gear 360 and not wanting to buy one, then go the 360Fly4K... and it can handle the knocks here and there much better for your parkour runs..... sorry i can't give you clear recommendation.... if i had to choose one I would probably go for the Gear 360.....
      let me know which one you ended going with and definitely let me know when you have some videos up... looking forward to seeing them.....

  • @PKrinskyProductions
    @PKrinskyProductions Před 8 lety +1

    Great Review. A couple questions for you. When viewing the videos on 360fly.com I noticed that they were very choppy and the video wasn't smooth. Did you experience this issue at all - perhaps there is a difference when it is at rest vs. when in action? Do you know if it is capable of being edited with NLE software - like premiere pro? Also, are you able to put it on the tripod or another stabilizing device so that it faces forward and not up? This way you can see everything in front of you - above and below and side to side, but not behind you?

    • @overexpose360
      @overexpose360  Před 8 lety +1

      hey mate... we haven't found the 360Fly video to be choppy but at the same time we haven't really tried shooting any really fast pace action/movement video yet..... will give that a go and see if the quality changes.... you can definitely edit the output file on NLE software...
      re facing the camera forward, I have found myself doing this more and more with the 360Fly due to the missing FOV at the bottom of the video/photo and it seems to work well.... it's a little bit odd viewing it on a computer initially as the movement is dragged around by a mouse, but on a VR headset, it's not really an issue...

    • @apeacock
      @apeacock Před 8 lety

      the default FPS is 24fps, so it is not that great for high action shooting

    • @jaimem1788
      @jaimem1788 Před 8 lety

      Actually, if the video is choppy depends on what you are using to play it back. I recorded some time lapse and 60fps video and thought it was choppy at first and problem with camera but found out it was the VLC player program I was using to watch it, guess it doesn't support it properly or something cuz looked fine when played with Microsoft video player, youtube using chrome, firefox, etc. Funny that GoPro recommends the exact opposite LOL gopro.com/support/articles/how-to-correct-choppy-broken-up-playback
      There's hacks to get it to work in premiere, etc. support.360fly.com/hc/en-us/articles/217942337-Can-I-edit-my-360fly-videos-in-3rd-Party-Editors-
      It's compatible with GoPro mounts so guess you could use one of their chest mounts to strap it to chest to record facing forward.

    • @overexpose360
      @overexpose360  Před 8 lety +1

      the videos are definitely cleaner on the Samsung Gear 360 as the raw resolution of the videos are much higher on the Samsung...... but if you want an action cam and want it tough to mount on snowboards or surfboards etc, i probably say the 360Fly is a much better build....

    If you have a compatible Sumsung phone, at this time, the Samsung Gear 360 is better.... I bought both because the 360fly could be used in water and I teach programs that have students doing water activities. The Gear 360 is more user friendly away from your phone and app and intuitive thanks to the menu on the camera. You also get a true 360 image as it has two fisheye lenses. Super easy to edit and upload from the app. 360Fly is still a little clumsy and time consuming to use. The water resistance is the ONLY advantage it has going for it at the moment, and I found that not to be that great. Many times I couldn't be sure if I was capturing what I wanted or not because the camera was taking too long to show a preview on my screen or I couldn't bring my phone with me. So, if the Gear 360 was water resistant (and not just spash proof), it would be the best consumer level 360 camera to buy right now.

    what is 1728 x 1728? is that "1080 HD" at 60 fps?
    thanks!

  • @Sunshinecoastphotography

    I bought one of these and it is OK for a novelty, but frankly, I wish it had the same FOV as the Theta S. It has better video quality than the Theta S, but not by much. I find the 360 effect is largely wasting a lot of space on showing the sky, so it's cool if you go under something, but for mounting on a car, etc, not optimal. It seems to me that I've seen some decent action videos done with it, but it looks like they mounted it on a tilt toward the subject. There, it was pretty good, but on any large monitor, the quality is just not great. Looks good in a small window though. I get why they called it a 4K camera, but it really needs to be about 12K pixels wide to be good video... I think I'll just wait for next generation 360 cams. My ideal one would be a Theta S with WAY higher resolution and a video record time of 2 hours, lol. I know, dream on..

    Excellent and relevant review. You told me exactly what I needed to know. One question I have is, how good is the live stream and will it work with say Periscope or CZcams live streams?

    • @apeacock
      @apeacock Před 8 lety +2

      It does not work with those services. You have to use the Livit app to live stream a lower resolution 360 stream.

    • @daviangel
      @daviangel Před 8 lety +1

      Yeah they need to support Periscope at least or Facebook live since that's what everyone is using. I checked out the Livit streams and seem only a handful of videos there at best.

    • @RussellGann
      @RussellGann Před 8 lety

      that's a shame to work only through a proprietary system. I could see reserving a better quality for their streams, but they limit their appeal to the intended consumer market

    I have the gear 360. When I stabilize the footage using adobe premiere's warp stablizer, which crops and zooms in to smooth camera motion, a problem emerges which is that frames overlap with themselves at the horizontal edge and create a huge stitch. Please tell me if the same thing happens with the FLY 360 because in that case I won't buy it! Thanks

    • @overexpose360
      @overexpose360  Před 6 lety

      I haven't tried the warp stabiliser so can't comment on that... But I probably can't recommend a fly360... Especially with so many better true 360 camera with onboard 6 axis stabilisation at similar prices...

    • @fernandoprieto1340
      @fernandoprieto1340 Před 6 lety

      oh! like which one will you rather recommend? I don't quite like the quality on my gear 360, even at 4K, I even bought a cheap ($150) Samsung phone to control the camera but it turns out it only works with high end models! I also need a small camera because I am recording inside a scale model. I have been looking around but I can't decide. I need a small enough camera with the best image quality, no stitching problems for close ups, and decent image stabilization.

    Some reviews/companies say that the 360fly products can go to a depth of 5ATM, but on the 360fly website (dutch version) it says that it can only go up to 1ATM. Are there different versions? Also your video says 3ATM and 50 meters (5ATM). Just an observation ;)

    How does it compare to the Samsung 360 ?? I have the option to return my Samsung 360 back to Samsung as I was not satisfied with stitching but not sure what is better out there??

    • @overexpose360
      @overexpose360  Před 8 lety

      it really depends on what you are after.... the 360Fly does not have any issues with stitching because it is single lens and it is great as an action cam as it is solidly built (and can be used by non-samsung owners and iOS users)... so if this is the most important to you than the 360 fly is the way to go.... if you want the best image quality in both video and photo then the Gear360 wins hands down..... the stitching while is something that is distracting, can be managed/minimised by a little planning as to how the video/photo is shot....

    • @jaimem1788
      @jaimem1788 Před 8 lety

      Think that defeats the purpose of an action cam though if you need to take that extra time to think about what angle, what position everything is in, etc.. don't think you have time to be thinking about all that when you are jumping out of plane or engaged in some other high risk, time sensitive situations!

      Video quality definitely left a bit to be desired.... but on a bright day, the quality can be quite pleasing but when the dynamic range is pushed a little bit then you can definitely see it's failings.... but still there isn't really another 360 (um 240 degrees) action cam in the market to compete with it to bring the price down yet.... but it will definitely get a much higher pick up at a lower than current prices...
