We are inviting individual singers and choirs around the world to sing in a virtual worldwide choir. CZcams star Peter Hollens and his wife Evynne have teamed up with us to record videos for four individual singing parts (soprano, alto, tenor, bass.) I'm an Alto and we sung this for our winter concert back in December. It was so fun, especially with our orchestra.
Alto has such a rich tone, often overlooked. I'm happy to see people love it just as much as soprano
wow...I am an alto myself, and I searched so so long for the Alto part of this beautiful piece of music. And then I finally found it, and this singer has such a beautiful voice, I have goosebumps all over my body!!! Thank you so so much!!

Good job, young lady! I hope they accept you. You are serving God and Christ Jesus well by singing "Hallelujah" to honor both our Father and Christ. As Paul once wrote: "...speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord..." (Ephesians 5:19). The practice run throughs for the actual performance must be wonderful! All the best to you.

We sang this in my high school choir many many many moons ago. I was a first soprano in one choir and a second soprano in the other. As I have gotten older, my voice has definitely matured. Plus since I don't practice every day, I can't hit a lot of the high notes anymore. This is my first time singing the alto part, and I absolutely love it. I've always had a love for harmonizing, and the alto part in this song is absolutely perfect.
This is one of the best things I have come across. In my high school choir, we don't this every year for our winter concert. My last winter concert is tomorrow, and using this for the past 4 years has been a journey

I’m a tenor, and alto is, in my opinion, the best vocal range a woman can sing.
I know this was posted years ago but, also in my opinion, it's also a very boring part to sing.

When I was in HS, we performed HM in it's entirety. We went on to compete nation wide and got a perfect score from the judges. I knew the entire alto part. I had forgotten a lot of the notes. Our choirs music teacher was a short and kind of stern, she demanded perfection from us and we all complained about it but, we all loved her and how we sounded when we performed. Handel was a genius.
This helped me sooooo much! I was struggling with this piece because of all the other moving parts I couldn’t isolate my alto part during practice. This video did exactly that! Life saver!
I've always sang this as a Soprano, but as I've gotten older my voice has deepened and since I don't sing on a regular basis I've lost the ability to hit the highest notes. Hearing the Alto version is definitely different.
You're simply amazing, thanks for doing this. Please give us more lessons with other hymns.

More like this please! This is very helpful to people who doesn't know about music to learn their parts in the choir. Music was given to us for praise our Father in Heaven, to lift the souls and to share hapiness for life :D
alto is so underrated, a lot of people say it’s boring and like not fun to sing alto but the range of alto is really impressive to begin with.
The quality of most altos is very warm and rich which is also another nice thing.
My personal favorite as being an alto is being able to sing in a lower voice register (if that makes sense)
I started singing this at school and soon discovered I'm not a soprano but an alto! Switching is quite hard since I know soprano by heart, but with this, I know I can do it :))

Comparing this to the soprano part, she seems much more comfortable as an alto, but she certainly has the range for both
mezzosoprano maybe? I can sing both soprano and alto, but mezzo is my perfect spot :)

I happened to notice a couple errors in the sheet music from 1:07-1:11. When they are singing the syllable "rein", the notation is shown as an A below middle C when it should be a B below middle C.
This is such a great video. It has helped me learn the Alto part to this beautiful Hymn. I will listen again and again, just to make sure that I know the part completely. Isolation video’s as this one are a huge help in learning each part. Thank you!!

Im a Bass, and my choir often sing this song in some special ocassions. Knowing the Alto line, just makes me feel that its not as hard as how it looks on the music sheet

Singing as alto it's really hard. Im a mezzo and I can do both, but the difficult part is to dont confuse the tone when hearing the sopranos.

Iam a Classically/Operatically trained Lyric Mezzo-soprano. I can sing from E3-D6. I used to train as a Lyric Coloratura Soprano before my voice got more matured and heavier. I used to have a vocal range from A3-Ab6 way back then. Though, I turned to a Lyric Mezzo-soprano, I just wonder why when I joined the church choir, they placed me with the Sopranos? , Though I can sing both parts just fine, I just wonder why? For all I know Sopranos have brighter and more silvery vocal colour/timber compared to us Mezzo-sopranos.
wow I adore your work Peter and Evynne just as always but I`m afraid that I can`t sing. I tried to record it but it just sounded horrible. I could play timpani instead :D

Ummm...which would be the best voice part to sing if we're soprano II or mezzo?
bit late...but in general alto. Some notes are deep but that will be alright. Especially in this song the soprano psrt is too high for a mezzo

The Altos have it easy, I must say.
After listening to all four part I could rank:
Altos, Bass, Tenors, Sopranos.
Pierre Odendaal I'm an alto and I think sopranos have it easier though
Depends on your range. Bass part is pretty easy though
for me.. from easiest to hardest for this song is : Alto, Bass, Soprano then Tenor.. Tenor don't have to sing much of high notes.. but got so much of loops from chest voice to head voice.. making them to have to change their vocal folds frequently, which making them to breath in and out air more often too because this loops requires lots of air for them to do it as consistency and powerful as possible
It's not easy if you're an alto. This part is the easiest if you sing soprano lol
I think the alto part is easier because the notes aren't notes aren't as high for our range. The soprano notes are really high, therefore making it easier to mess up.
