- Here it is after 3 weeks of work, a video about Project A-Spec; the latest Gran Turismo 2 mod to have come out. This mod adds so much new content to Gran Turismo 2 that it's not even funny. It's like if PD themselves took GT2 and gave it content updates like they do now. Expect new JGTC cars, new sports cars, and new LeMans racers! This mod was created by a team of amazing people and I'm ecstatic to finally be able to show what they have done.
At least a beta version of the mod they have created, what I have been playing is an earlier version with some bugs that they'll probably have worked out in the new build. But even this beta build has so much to offer and gives GT2 a fresh experience.

Notes:
- Despite checking the video editing multiple times, I still probably made some mistakes. So, I apologize for that.
- Aside from procrastination, the video took so long mostly because of the length. I actually trimmed quite a bit of fat in making this one.
- With that said, I think future mod videos of this nature will change a bit. Either posting in parts, getting more focused on the dealership part, or a combination of both.
- I forgot to include info on the STP Taisan Porsche 911 that's coming to the mod. Sorry about that.
- For why I can't access some cars that others have is because I've been using an earlier build of A-Spec. So, the mod doesn't have all of the content announced on the server or instagram page.
- For the Lancia 037 JGTC, it sadly doesn't work on dirt.
- As I said at the end, I'm going to do some smaller videos on this mod like some races or something.

One thing that irks me is that I realized for the stock car footage, I forgot to put blurred footage in the bg, but I'm not going back to render this again just for that. Eh, that's just on brand for me and my channel; always leaving mistakes.
Also, check the description for time stamps. For some reason, CZcams is not giving me the chapters. REMINDER: Seriously watch the Q&A part of the video please, it's at the start of the video. I edited that section in to help explain the mod and answer some questions people have asked before and I imagine you were thinking.

EDIT: A few things to mention as I don't remember if I said these in the video.
- Since I keep seeing comments talking about the textures looking melted or whatever, I should mention that's just the filter I'm using on Duckstation. The cars will likely look different in the way you play GT2.
- You can't merge this mod with the arcade disc like with Pez2k's mod. You're kinda stuck with simulation mode only.
- The reason why is that some of the hidden cars taken out of the simulation disc were the rally cars. They had to in order to make room for the mod.
- To expand on what I said in the video, the mod does indeed work on mobile; it's been tested on there before. Komputer even mentioned trying it on ePSXe and it works there, so it should work on the mobile release.
- Once again, it's not released yet. I was given a beta build of the mod to try, a public release will come out when they have everything ready. and yes again, I can promise there's more cars to be shown later.
- One car brand I forgot to show was Panoz as I believe Nathan is working on the Esperante GTR-1 Race Car.
- I heard that Super Taikyu cars being focused on later on, but I can't say that's confirmed exactly unless corrected. I think they're going to be new racing modifications that replace old ones.

- As a reminder on this being a beta build, the first release build will definitely be different in places. I.E. The CLK Race Car in the Mercedes Special section has been replaced by the C-Class DTM I mentioned in the video (it's finished now) and the CLK Race Car (now the DTM Prototype) will be a prize car.
- The Lancia Rally 037 in the video is the one that competed in the 1994 JGTC Championship and no longer has the same suspension that it had during its Gr.B Rallying days. So it sadly can't have rally tires installed.
- The 100 car limit is rather impossible to change.
- As I said in the video, the Mclaren F1 GTR you see in gameplay mode is NOT the finalized model. There's an updated model that'll come when the mod is released.
- If you have issues with the car models, be specific on what they are. Also, the wheel fitment will be fixed with time, that's a bit of a challenge since it's done through hex editing.
I love this GRAN TURISMO 2 PROJECT A SPEC! As a longtime diehard fan of Nijigasaki High School Idol Club, i am also so hyped to see Super Taikyuu cars in GT2!

Several other cars from Gran Turismo (1997 video game) (like Chaser LM Edition, Honda NSX-R GT1 Turbo & NSX-R LM GT2, S14 LM Edition will add on the special model section with each manufactures, and the rest others with severals restored beta colors as prize car that award by obtaining all golds in each license tests & endurances) modded to Gran Turismo 2 Plus will be returning also?
@@ronaldowinston5245 I was told they wouldn't be focused on those. You might just have to stick with GT2 Plus if you want to drive those.
Do you know if it will be possible for a gamesave that uses the Project A-Spec mod to buy cars from a vanilla gamesave?
Never would i have imagined that a 1999 PS1 exclusive would end up receiving such a treatment all those years later on PC. Just goes to show the passion that the mod developers have for the game arguably far more than game developers nowadays. Great work to all involved in the mod...i'm astounded!
Wish GRAN TURISMO 5 has these mods too like in GT2.

@@purwantiallan5089 They're not the same ones from Driving Emotion Type S to note. That game is using 2000 JGTC cars, GT2 is using the 1999 ones.

I have just completed GT2 on an emulator there the past 3 weeks and just came across this masterpiece. It looks very very good - amazing in fact and without hesitation would happily do the game over on your build. I'm a massive fan of the franchise and feel this is a massive justice serving the game deserves going from a classic to ultra classic state!
I do have a request that you keep the Vauxhall Corsa B in there this is my favourite car ever, I know it's a mere pebble of a car amongst great boulders but I have a tuned up engine converted one in my garage at home so it's a purely selfish request (hahaha) + the VX220 turbo and Tigra Ice Race car goes without saying😍😍.
On a final parting note sincerest of gratitude to you guys for sparing such skills and modding wisdom on this, I believe I speak for many (probably thousands atleast) when I say this amazing and will make many many people happy👍🏼🏴
Gran Turismo 2 was my absolute literal childhood and to see what this mod has to offer so far in all the new cars and content it is going to expand upon, not to mention even more restored cut cars from the demos like the Yellow Magic Ferrari F355 and other exclusive non-considered GT2 cars coming in even later final builds along with the initial confirmed new cars you showed like the once text-string only JLOC Diablo NOMAD No. 88 and SOK McLaren F1 AND the newly added and ever iconic FINA McLaren F1, Prowler, Renault Sport Spider and its race car variants, the Ford Indigo, the Escudo's new rival in the Tacoma Pikes Peak, and all the new concept cars of the era just to name some, pretty much in a nutshell I've been told this mod is going to push GT2 as far as it literally can be and I could not be more hyped for the first initial full build!
Hope the release date for the first full build won't be too much farther away cause seeing all these beta builds floating out in videos like yours is making me jealous seeing as I've played GT2 literally all my life haha 😂 Incredible work by all the developers of this mod. Absolutely astounding and cannot wait to play and explore all it has to offer seeing as it'll take GT2 to it's 100 percent limit. This is what GT2 should have been had Polphony not been rushed by Sony to release the game for Christmas 1999.

This mod is a "what if " because they put the Cars that we're planned to appear in the Game . Nice mod and I hope that it continues in the future .
Indeed, this mod includes a lot of the cars that were mentioned in the Demos that didn't appear. They're still going at it and I was just playing an earlier beta of the mod. When this gets released, you'll be able to play with more content.

@@luissalgado9378 For new cars added, I would say at least 28 cars in the beta build I'm playing. The release build will probably have up to 42 new cars or more.
For the full car count including new cars, I guess that makes it 678+ cars in the beta build I'm playing since GT2 had around 650 cars at base.
In later releases, I'm predicting a much higher car count. Don't know what amount exactly.

I am impressed with the work you did. I'm also a big fan of comparing the performance of each car and new paint colors etc. I hope that Escudo HKS Drag will get many more opponents on the Test Course track.

To Note though, you're thinking of the HKS Drag 180SX, the Escudo is a Pikes Peak HIllclimb car. But yeah, it would probably be a good idea to perhaps include maybe the HKS R33 GT-R as an opponent. and I know that the modders are planning on adding the HKS Drag Celica.

It's a pity that Polyphony Digital didn't share the source code of gran turismo 2. Looking at what miracles modders do without source code, I wouldn't even want to know what this game would look like if such source code was available (of course in a positive sense 👍)

@@wibs0n68PD if they released the source code of Gran Turismo 2 then the whole game could be changed from scratch. Just changing the garage limit that 100 cars to, for example, 1000 cars would bring a lot, and without the source code you can't change it.

The best thing i would imagine for this mod, but i think it is impossible to do, is to add drag racing mode as originally planned for GT2. But just the way it is now it's much more than i ever imagined. Finally these guys are adding what GT2 deserved and missed all these years. Thank you.
I honestly can see it implemented someday. Probably using Test Course as the drag strip.

Don't be silly, Lancia Rally 037 is a rally car, but it can drive on the dirt tracks (by equiping dirt tyres) until the future beta update (substitute stratos on either Tahiti Dirt or Pikes Peak Downhill as opponent car on rally events (still the opponent's ghost car while rally race) and removing opponent Lancia 037 from GT500 championship & Laguna Seca 200 miles endurance race from typical opponents list).
@@ronaldowinston5245 The Lancia Rally 037 is indeed a Gr.B Rally Car in its inception, but the one in this mod is based on one that was modified to run in the All Japan Grand Touring Championship. I was told by one of the modders that this 037 can't be equipped by rally tires in game. Likely because in real life, this one had its suspension changed to now have track-focused suspension rather than rally-focused suspension.

This mod looks really good, the new car additions look really high-quality and fit with the rest of the game well!
By the way, I’m curious to ask if you know how much the prize car list has been or is planned to be revamped? I noticed you mentioned the new racing Supras are new prizes from endurance events, I’m curious if the rally and one-make events might have some new prizes as well.
It's planned to be revamped, most of the new cars you see in this beta are actually endurance event prize cars, not just the Supras. Komputer even told me the Mirage GT300 in this mod is won from the actual Mirage One-Make race (and it was, I tested it). Recently, I figured out the new Camaro LM and the Lister Storm GT2 are in-fact won in the GT League Nationals (Camaro in French Nationals for some reason and the Storm GT2 won in the UK Nationals.
With that said, I also know that the prize cars are going to be switched around some more in the full release. So some cars that are endurance prize cars will be moved somewhere else.

It reminded me that everything is possible when it comes to console modding, something we do with the PC ports of GTA games. I'll try this one out in the near future.
The thing is that modding GT2 has been possible for a while, though only the recent past couple years it's been possible to create new models for the game.
@@RandomCarGuy17 I see, though I also didn't see console modding sticking around until I discovered ePSXe years ago. The earliest builds of GT2 Plus were the reason to make it even more popular recently.
Also, can I get the Diablo GT-1 and the F1 GTR in GT2 Plus already aauuugh
@@heavenlanes5598 I'm afraid that'll probably not happen as Pez2k doesn't want to include fanmade car models in his mod. Only models and assets officially created by Polyphony Digital.
The only way something like the Diablo will happen is if we magically stumbled upon another build of GT2 that happens to have completed models of it. Which is a bit unlikely.

The suggestions for improving that I like to have on this mod is to have both the Lotus Elise coupe and Roadster types available simultaneously to buy and play with! Also the pikes peak Tacoma needs a little more attention and have a better model in the release builds and updates to come, I saw the new colors for the Jaguar XJR 15 in GT2 Plus, and I'm a bit bummed that they are not on here.
Other than those suggestions, im pretty excited for this mod!
It wouldn't be a bad idea to have both available as options for perhaps certain models. Like the base car could be a softtop with the 190 being a hardtop. Just for clarification, the Elise wasn't offered as a Coupe ever. It was just a convertible that had both a hardtop and softtop option.
The main thing I hope is fixed is removing the 135 decal on the models as that should only be for the Sport 135.
I believe Nathan might update the Tacoma model in the future as I read he wasn't happy about it on the Discord server I'm on. Also I agree with you on the XJR15, I did wish it was given those extra color options like you see on some XJR15s in real life.

@@tropixx_xlr1549 No wait a minute, that's not completely correct. I forgot about the Lotus Exige, that was essentially an Elise Coupe. and the MotorSport Elise is also technically an Elise Coupe. The Exige did exist on the 1st Gen Elise, though I think it came out after 2000 (which cars made from 2000 onwards won't appear in this mod).

Gran Turismo 2 is by far my favorite GT game. GT3 is second, because the amount of time I played that game with game sharks, codebreakers building hybrid cars is off the charts. Plus the jump from PS1 to PS2 graphics were insane at the time of being 16 when GT3 came out. Im gonna freak with nostalgic excitement to play this.

I would love to make Gran Turismo 2 but like a more modern version of it intended for multiplayer use where a lot of cars are balanced but in classes that you work up through throughout the game.

Loving the small changes done to the various car bodies in this mod in addition to the brand new cars we'll be able to drive/modify.
Some of the models need to be improved on to make them look more as if they were a part of the game. The tacoma diablo and mclaren defo need some improvements. Otherwise this looks absolutely stunning. I’m a fan of the changes to GT All Stars as well and with the GT World Championship

Fun fact: There was only ever an "SLK 230 Kompressor". The "320 Kompressor" shown in the game is a mistake. The 217hp V6 engine in the 320 was naturally aspirated. There did exist a supercharged version, however that was the "SLK 32 AMG".
I'll have a talk with them about the SLK "320 Kompressor" in fixing it. However, you're not entirely right about that as I did a quick google search and found that the SLK 320 not only exists, but I'm seeing listings of them on auto trader.

I really wish someone would find a way to break out from the 100 garage space limit. Though now I’m really lost if I should stick with gt plus, get this or gt2.1 Maybe one day there’ll be a super mod that can combines them and with the cars from nfs2 since half of them are already in. that would be a dream. The Isdera needs another chance to shine.

The mod is complete now and yes, you should be able to do that. Just to note, the link to the mod is in my pinned comment along with the program you need to patch it to your GT2 iso. Use GT2 V1.2.

There's massive differences between the 2. GT2 Plus is basically making the base game more polished and adding back some cut content like the Mercedes CLK Race Car, VW Polo, BMW e36 Coupe, and Nissan Skyline 4-Door RM. The mod also includes things like both Opel & Vauxhall together and including JDM Hondas and keeping Acura. There's also a removed race added back, the Peugeot 206 event.
GT2 Project A-Spec is a content expansion mod focusing on adding a lot of cars to the mod, mostly race cars and concepts. Though you'll find some new road cars too. It also changes some events in the game while adding a couple of new events. The cars you'll find in the mod include JGTC Cars like the Lamborghini JLOC Diablo GT, FK/Massimo Supra, and Castrol RX-7. There's new GT1 race cars like the Bitter GT1 and Mclaren F1 GTR. Some obscure Group C cars added like the Mazda 767B and Nimrod NRA/C2.
Basically, play what you're more interested in. A more polished build of GT2 or GT2 that's not as polished, but has more content to play with. Though Project A-Spec is working on becoming more polished, there's going to be a new update for it this week.

I'd change the hp to around 800 hp, since I've heard many times that a stock car in nascar is around 800 hp, and their rpms are over 9000 rpm
I'll tell the modders that, I wasn't sure how accurate the specs were myself to be honest. In which, I just looked up the specs on Jeremy Mayfield's Taurus from back in 1998. It was around 850 hp, unless you're talking about it's power under the restriction plate.

I think they might do that, I think the XJ220 no longer has its Race Car line during replays in this mod.

Since I've made it to the end of new content, I wonder if they'll add more concept cars like the Mazda RX-Evolv or something crazy like the GM EV-1 lol. Lot of cool cars I can think of made before 2000 that could fit in with GT2. Oh and definitely fix the rubberbanding and sounds. I rarely see the mod brought up in the GT Modding Discord for some reason.
