This book became my bible when I read it at the age of 19. Now I’m 64 and needed a refresher. Back on track again. 😁 Started listening to it yesterday…this morning, I found a blue feather in the garden.
This book is the center of a truly amazing moment in my life,I have read it many times since, mostly know it by heart, thanks for posting this life changing story.
Wow, the world had only 4 billion people when this book was written? This book changed me way back in the early 1980s. It changed my son in the early 2000s. ❤
I read this book 41 yeas ago now and I still remember how much I loved it at that time. It helped a great deal at that time as I was in a very dark and sad place back then. A lost love and a crushed heart left me very depressed and confused, I felt as if I lost all control of my life. I was seeing the world for the first time after leaving my home I grew up in and, after moving far away, I was living on my own for the first time in my life. I remember that time very well, I also remember thinking how complicated life had suddenly become and how rapidly things can change. I felt like things were going really going well for me, I was putting everything was falling into place and life seemed so good. Then, one morning ,everything seemed to suddenly go to hell! I was lost in an unfamiliar maze, and the world turned a shade darker as if the sun had dimmed and, nothing that I could think of made any sense at all anymore. A few months later I was in a book store and I noticed this book called "Illusions" sitting on the shelf. For no reason what so ever, I seemed drawn towards this book, I had never heard of, nor had I ever seen or read anything about this book. I bought it for reasons unknown and I went home and read it several times. It helped to put things back together in my life and it truly changed my life! I had not read this book for the past 41 years but, now as I listened to it being narrated by the author, the words and passages came flooding back to me as if I had just finished reading it a week ago. Truly a great book, thoroughly enjoyable and reading it can do nothing but make one feel good inside, and perhaps even help us learn more about this thing we call.....life!
I read this book when I was 25 years old, year 1992, 26 years later 2018, I am revisiting this great book that has influenced my life everyday. This book started me on a path that has brought me to this moment and I am blessed and grateful!
Grant C I'm 37minutes in , and I'm really not getting this. I get the 1st part like a. Parable of happiness in normal life , but its getting confusing. Would u suggest I continue if I'm not getting it by 37min?
I did my fourth reading of this book in one sitting, in the mid-80s, then drove to my local drop zone to jump. My head was filled with the ideas in the book for the entire drive. I was mostly daydreaming of flying in 1928 Fleet Biplane with a five cylinder Kinner up front, and hardly thought of skydiving at all. When I arrived, with my head full of barnstorming ideas, the first thing I saw was a banner on a schoolbus that said, "Biplane Rides. Come and get Took." Whoa, what a coincidence.... I went out to the flight line with my mind full of "deja vu" thoughts, and saw a Fleet biplane with a Kinner five cylinder up front, as if it had just materialized right there. The owner walked up and asked if I'd like to go up. My conversation with him seemed way too highly influenced by this book to be for real. I was dumbfounded. It was too eerie...and I became convinced this guy who called himself "Gary" was actually Richard Bach. So asked "Gary" if he had read the book Illusions. He reached info the cockpit and pulled a copy out that he kept tucked under a stringer. It was dog-eared badly, and had highlighter marks on much of the text. Turns out Gary was a somewhat jaded businessman who read the book, then sold virtually everything he had. Then he bought the Fleet and traveled for a few years giving rides. He was quite surprised when I said I didn't want to jump out of it, and asked why. "Because I want to hear the wind in the wires when we land this thing!" Well he let me take the controls for much of that flight, and I did hear that unforgettable sound when he slipped it down to the runway for landing. I new right then, that one day I would buy and fly a classic old biplane. I did that in 2008, and have been addicted to flying antique biplanes ever since. Thanks for the inspiration, Mr. Bach!
By far this is the most beautiful thing I have ever listened to. 🥺🤍 I will carry it forever... God bless everyone who has read this and specially those who haven’t yet. This is magic and more ❤️
So happy to find this on CZcams for free. I ordered a new physical copy (not sure where my first copy is) before I even thought to look for the audiobook online. Can't wait to get the new paperback and help my kids read it. Phenomenal book. Richard Bach and I have had email correspondence and he is absolutely an excellent soul to communicate with!
After my husband passes I received this book from his daughter, she bought it some days before his passing and gave it to me some time after it with a birthday present in it. She gave it to me and inscribed in it the words "This book helped my dad through a hard time he was having." As I read it I suddenly heard my husband's voice as if he were reading it to me. He spent a part of our marriage trying to teach me the lessons that Don had taught Richard throughout the book.. I've never read it except the first dozen pages, the memories it brought up were as painful as a shotgun blast to the chest. I'm glad I listened to it here after losing my physical copy of it. Funny thing is, I knew how it would end even before it did, but it made me smile to hear the genius in what he does. A looping story that tells itself forever and the reader or listener gets whatever out of it they need the most. Beautiful. Just, beautiful.
Read it in 1984 during my law college days , found it just now and heard it to realise , Richard's words and philosophical ideas have clung to my mind and helped me both in my personal life and legal battles of my clients too. This book has had a great influence on me. I am sixty and living a complete life , watching my daughter and son lead their lives happily due to the way my ideas grew in their minds too. Thankyou , Richard Bach.
I read this book when I was 11, I cannot imagine my life or my children's life without it. Or my friends' lives or my childrens' friends lives. It has been such an amazing freedom line to follow. Bought it a thousand times and gave it a thousand times. Thank you for it!
This has been my favorite book since the first time I read it, almost 40 years ago, I think. I still have that book, with all my underlining, comments, folded favorite pages, etc. What a fantastic trip to yonder was listening to the audiobook read by the author. Thank you a million times!
Thank you for uploading this! My cassette tape broke long ago from so many listenings and it never came out on CD or digital.. I have the book and read it over and over. It is an enduring reminder to remember that we are more than we believe we are. This is one of the most important books in my 77 years. It is so nice to listen to Richard reading it, again.
This was formative literature in my life as a young man. It is foundational to the person I became as an adult. The Handbook has come into my life periodically, and every time it has been necessary for some reason to return to the initial wisdom. And here it is again, in a different form. Thank you.
I first read this book back in 1977 when it first was published, have read it several times since as well as gifted or loaded the book to others to read many times. Thank you for posting this audiobook with Richard Bach narrating. He truly is a master!
There is no substitute for reading words, from the pages of a real book. Yet listening to books allow us to learn from and enjoy books while engaged in other tasks. To be able to listen to this book read aloud by the author is a real treat.
I brought this book when I was 21but unfortunately I didn't read it at that time. I have intense desire for reading this book. But I readed the book during corona lockdown period. I think it is the best time to read this legendary book.😍😍😍
I had forgotten what sound and timeless advice you words are/were. I am more than I was but not nearly as much as I shall be. Thank you Richard, for the video.
How many people drown after reading this book?! But I have breathed water once when I was small. In a wave pool at an amusement park. I was thrown off of my inner tube and sucked under the water and was seemingly stuck to the bottom. I believed that I was drowning and I held my breath. Then I believed I wanted to live and I took two solid breaths under water. I was pulled out and wasn't even coughing
Wow I had the same experience! I was about4 yrs old in the pool and my mom wasn’t paying attention. I began drowning but had this incredible clarity to “just breathe calmly” so as I sat at the bottom of the pool I just took small calm breaths until a large hand pulled me straight up out of the water; it was my father and he was yelling at my mother and snatching me out of the pool. But I was just fine. “The peace that surpasses all understanding”
What a fantastic book! Could not sleep last night until I finished this whole book at 4 this morning. Thank you Mike Dooley and Next Level Soul for introducing me to this gem and thank you to this channel for sharing it.❤
That's how it went. We bought lunch together in the school cafeteria, and the cashier told us that we will make beautiful babies together. What a random comment that was. Maybe it's the cashier's fault? I ended up finding my soul mate, so everything always happens for a reason.
Lol same! I was 19 when I met a South African/Dutch fellow, we ended up having a romance over many years. He gave me this book with the inscription that it changed his life and led him to me. I lived abroad with him for several years and traveled the world together. He broke my heart and it took years to recover. Glad I’m revisiting the audiobook now and have healed from the pain that breakup had caused me.

Such a groovy under recognized great work of literature. One of the greatest contemporary reflectors of new age thinking.

The New Testament ... Old testament is Jonathan Livingston Seagull.
Jonathan Livingston Seagull is also in my playlist "Audiobooks".
a friend bought me a record player for my b-day. i thought oh what a silly gift, I wont use it. then i looked thru my old records, found Jonathan Livingston Seagull and immediately played it 3 times.
