It's not very often we cover RC boats on our channel, and never before have we seen one with this throw back, vintage wooden style! At first glance, it really looks like a kit, that someone spent tedious hours on, building through the winter as a labor of love! Then as you get closer and take a second look, you realize this is a plastic model of a classic boat we all drool over. For the price, this would make a Really Fun upgrade project for anything that is looking to fill their weekends with a project like this. It does run out of the box, but as shown in this video, not well. This is just a small treat I stumbled by that I wanted to share with a specific, small part of our audience. If I was a bit younger and cared enough, Nate, I would pay for you to ship that BEAUTIFUL little boat to me and not only upgrade the innards, but I would METICULOUSLY replace all of the plastic with wood... can be done, as I have in the past, WAY back when I was y'alls' age. You know, back in ancient times last century. I use to be HUGE into boats, both model and sailing. I use to sail a little 16' "American Sail' catamaran back in the 70's.
And once again_ THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for the two quads. You two are the best on this thing called 'You Tube'.
What Abby fails to realize is her Captain would be happy just displaying this "pretty boat" on a dock stand & admirably admiring its gorgeousness Lol👍👍💛

I'm a little behind on watching stuff, maybe it's been commented, but when I saw this first thing I thought of was On Golden Pond. The 'old poop' had a boat like that. That does look like wood grain though, that's neat just that they added that detail.
Been wanting one like this for many years. I love the looks. I wouldn't mind upgrading it if need-be.
Ok this video told me something I would have never known. I have the 2.4Ghz version and like yours it somehow senses it is in the water and will not do anything out of the water. I really did not count on any two way comms between TX and RX but I bet the sensor tosses out a safe packet and the TX will not send unless it hears that. Way different than my early R/C stuff (1980s Associated cars like the 12i) Glad they are looking out for little Jonny not to get a thumb in a prop!

Brushless would project be overkill but to each their own.

Built a wooden one way back last milineum, was wonderful, I think it's around somewhere still, that needs to go on your display area for sure though, keep bringing the cool rcs, great stuff.
Drydock & a brushless refit for sure. Hi guys, reminds some of us of the early Japanese toys, even down to the cardboard used on the box. Nice job on the faux Mahogany hull & thanks for another honest & fun review. 👍

I got given a pile of toy shop RC returns about 18 months ago... Got a speedboat style boat similar size to this. The receiver didn't work, but the motors worked great. It's now got proper ESCs instead of relays (they're brushed motors) and a 2.4GHz radio system... Had a lot of fun testing it with the original 7.4v NiMH batteries, but even more fun when I stuck some 2S LiPos in...
It's had to sit on the shelf the last 6 months or so though. Got a drought going on here.

Looks great. I am guessing about 1/14 the scale? Definitely a good candidate for a radio upgrade. This looks like a smaller plastic version of the Sterling CrisCraft Runabout wood kit. I am not a big model boat fan but I had always liked the Sterling kit. Worth checking into putting this on a trailer for one of the 1/14th or 12th "scaler" trucks. Good find on this one Nate & Abby.

If the company that made this can fix the range issue, it would be an awesome boat!! Excellent video Nate & Abby!! :)
The range issue is solely because the extendable whip antenna could not be installed into the radio; I don't expect this issue to crop up with that many purchasers.
"If the company that made this can fix the range issue" Bear in mind the antenna on the transmitter was not properly attached. Probably the appalling lack of range we observed in this episode was not its normal performance. Even with good range, though, that huge antenna pole on the boat spoils it for me.
This boat has been upgraded to 2.4 GHZ so don't worry about the range and the on off running, but there is now no extra battery box for AA battery pack and the main battery is smaller.

Box is very different where I ordered mine a year ago. The box was very flashy. Made by DICKY TOYS but not the original company. The original Dicky toys boat was made in Germany. It is called MONICA and I will have to repost some pictures and video for my Channel. Mine did seem to work much better than that. They are slow but didnt cut out like that, I think you got a bum boat Nate. That after market box makes me think it was remarketed. I will check your link and compair it to where I got mine. It was on on line store, but in Italy I believe. Sorry you got such a bad example. Now you have gotten me wanting to start the upgrade process.lol.

If I'm not mistaken , a famous manufacturer of that type of boats is called 'Riva' . Renowned boat builder in Italy.
I found a modernized version of this on rcworld.us for 50 bucks.
Same exact boat, but with a lipo battery and a 2.4ghz controller/reciever. So range is good, batter is good.

looks like the old Chris Craft like you see in the JFK home movies. you should be able to upgrade the radio and receiver then you can have a cool looking boat with better performance

Is that carbon or metal plate at the bottom?
It is all plastic Jay, and if upgraded to 2.4 ghz it would have range as far as you can see to drive it :-)

Was watching a Godzilla 🐊movie,checked & you posted an hour ago. Nice looking boat,50's, 60's style. Antenna really messed up the looks. To bad it didn't run well. Good review on a shelf model boat. It would look great being eaten by Godzilla 🐊. 🐴🐴.
Can’t knock the range, when the xmitter antenna isn’t even connected. You should split open the case and get a good connection, and then test the range.
if you take the screws out of the controller you can screw the antenna back in
That's a really great looking boat. The huge antenna pole ruins the atmosphere though!

You guys are right, it would've taken no time at all. It is an easy fix, I know, when I ordered my drone from gearbest, one of the controls broke off and I said hey I don't want to wait for a replacement so I'll fix it and they were good enough to give me some credit so I used it to purchase a couple of extra batterys. Worked out great for me as I love to fix electronics. Thanks guys'll!
This little boat´s been on sale for a long time, branded as the "Jamara Venezia". Range isn´t usually a problem with them, but it´s true that, with its great looks, it deserves to be upgraded to hobby-grade electronics.

Sadly no, this didn't come with a stand. One of the few boats we've ever seen without one. I'm sure you could buy one very cheap on ebay or something. Question is, would it fit?
A very pretty little boat and quite a rare type by today's standards.
A little more effort may have made it work a lot better. Taking the tx apart to sort out why the antenna wasn't fitting properly might have revealed a simple fix and the antenna tube on the boat seemed to need to be shorter so that the active tip was properly exposed. Yes I know that it is old tech but old tech isn't _that_ bad
My first R/C airplane (aeroplane)'s radio communicated at 27MHz -- pretty much smack in the middle of the CB range -- if somebody with a CB radio on the correct channel keyed up while you were flying nearby, it could cause the airplane to misbehave or even fall out of the sky. :-O

I have this boat---the motor burned out after 3 runs. it now sits on my shelf cuz it looks cool.
I was going to say "at least it's not 27 Mhz" but when I look at the banggood listing it says it is 27 Mhz. Which means if a trucker goes by talking on his CB radio the boat is gonna go nuts. It would be a fun little project to upgrade though, but I'm not sure as it is that it's worth $37. When I saw the thumbnail I thought it was one of the real wood ones. I was just recently eyeballing those. They're out of my ghetto budget, but sure nice to look at.
Cris-Craft! They were the epitome of pleasure boats. Strictly for cruising or transportation between the dock and your yacht. Too bad the performance didn’t match the look!

thanks guys i bought the same boat in scotland. i believe it came from china , it cost 20 pounds , it did not work at all. i do not know any shop who sell rc boats here anymore

You have used it now it can sit on the shelf as a ornament :) It would make a good base to fit modern gear to (mainly transmitter receiver). Oh dear 40mhz rc gear thats going back, I remember using 27 and 29 mhz in cars
I do too! It came with issues, as we see here in this video. Love the looks of this boat, and it'll look great on the shelf ;-)

Sure 27/40 MHz is bad although it shouldn't be that bad, should get at lest 50m given the large antenna, seems like there's a problem with the boat

Thanks guys, a pass on my side -- is definitely not built for speed, even if you did upgrade the ESC and the motor, a person would end up swamping or capsising that thing every time you made a turn so yeah nice looking vessel but waste of money, waste of time to upgrade from my standpoint. There would have been no reason to continue on with the review I think everybody got a pretty good, short and sweet review.
Agree with George J. . . Banggood's own promo video shows a massive amount of water displaced by a poor hull design which squanders power. Claimed speed doubtful otherwise we would have seen it going faster, maybe that WAS top speed ... More thought on hull design, please guys .. speed boats skim OVER the water, this one bludgeons its way THROUGH the water, like a barge ... A good looker for the mantlepiece .. ( .. or in a show case .. ).
Good morning Saylors! I watched this, and like you Nate, was reminded of once seeing a beautiful laquered wooden boat that looked nearly identical, and remembered that President John F. Kennedy had one! (see link: goo.gl/images/Vpxp4t) I remember, at a very young age (8 or 9) seeing a film news-reel (I haven't found it on the net) of he & Jackie motoring towards the camera off his gorgeous boat's port side! In those days, movie theaters would run a "news-reel" prior to starting the movie, before upcoming movie trailors, replaced them. Thanks so much, for bringing a wonder memory to the surface, my friends! I remember JFK was a childhood idol of mine & I wanted to have my hair cut just like his! Lol at the memory....
