  • Today I'm taking a plant that's just not thriving in semi-hydroponics, and converting it back to soil. I'll walk you through why I'm choosing this transition, and if I'm still a fan of semi-hydro.

The reason marantas “don’t do well” in leca is because the growing medium needs to stay evenly moist. You basically have to keep your water line right below the roots at all times. If you don’t, you get the brown crispy edges. This is why soil works better for them.

Your prayer plant is doing way better than mine. I was thinking about putting mine in LECA.

Looking forward to updates. I started using leca back in May. I have 25 plants in both leca and in soil. The jury is still out for me. I am most interested to see how they all do over the winter.

Many of my plants have been in semi-hydro for a while and are doing great, even through a Colorado winter. This one just didn’t like its life in LECA.

I have my V. Maranta in Lehuza Pon, I give it rain water mixed with ph balanced coco nutrients, it's in normal house humidity and it's growing like crazy still! Non stop growing new leaves and flowers (I cut them). You should try this set up. I think someone made a video on YT about it, you can search for "variegated maranta lechuza pon". Good luck with your plant :)

I transition burl Marx variegated from leca to soil cause it’s outgrown the pots and it shocked. A lot of yellow leaves. Any tips?

They are picky and need distilled water...mine has brown tips also 😑

This one gets the same care as my other one (except in semi-hydro) and the other one is thriving!

Omg, I’ve been wondering this abt my maranta plant too. Its growing and all in leca, the leaves just don’t mature enough i guess? Lots of small green leaves but no red veins etc. I thought its because I haven’t started giving it nutrients. Do you think that could be it?

I give mine nutrients every few weeks, so I don’t know if that’s the issue.

Small leaves usually means lack of light and/or lack of nutrients. ♥️

Some of my Hoyas died in semi hydro 😢

Oh no! So sorry to hear that. Mine seem to do great in semi-hydro... but I’m in a very dry climate.
