When I saw one of Nick Schade's wooden kayak seats I had to make one for my kayak, it's a beautiful design. I reckon it would also make a great seat for a stool or chair. One thing I meant to mention in the video but forgot, was some of the grain of the wooden pieces running in opposite directions isn't ideal. As this seat will be fibreglassed it will be stabilised and wood movement won't be an issue.
Here's a link to Nick's plans guillemot-kayaks.com/catalog/...
As always I'm happy to answer any questions.

The book provides clear illustrations czcams.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO diagrams that cover many of the essential topics. The projects at the end of the book are valuable for enhancing your skills and creating your own furniture. A digital platform linked to the book that could offer the plans for other woodworking projects with the cut sheets would have been a nice addition, but overall, the book is excellent.
Gorgeous! The camphor laurel is a nice touch. Not only provides great contrast but a wink to all those other great projects you've shared with us.
Thanks - I felt like I needed to add camphor laurel in the project somewhere. :)
Now I know how to spell camphor laurel
Beautiful! Contrast, contour, and construction - all 100% inspirational.
Thanks very much June - glad you liked it! :)
For some unfathomable reason I am more intrigued by this creation than I was by the kayak itself......and THAT video had me near spellbound. You are an amazing craftsman and creator, never failing to educate, inspire, and amuse. Thank you!
Thanks very much George - glad you enjoyed the videos! :)
Neil you are the You Tuber that everone else aspires too. Cheers from the West.
The curves and the inlays are gorgeous. Thanks for spraying with water so we could see what it will look like.
What an honor for a piece of the kayak to join the Scrapwood Challenge. It's scrap, it's crap, it's kayak wood!
Glad to see you using and showing others the IPA/hot glue trick!
Wow, this is so beautiful. I can't wait to see the fiber-glassing and final assembly.
Neil, that seat would definitely look nice on a stool.
Some time ago I bought a used counter stool from a scrap yard, and it was missing the seat. I went to another yard a few days later, and they had some bits and bobs of old tractor parts. I got the steel pan seat from that pile, and made an adapter to mount it on the stool. I plan to use it in my welding shop.
Thanks Bryant - your seat sounds cool. :)
@@PaskMakes with all those holes in it, I hope so. 😀 I know you didn't mean that kind of cool...
It's like a cabin in the state of Montana. The roof had many holes in it, and the caption on the picture said cabin has hot and cold running water hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It'll definitely be cool in the winter.
Wow..Mr Pask..I remember when you only had 200 000 subscribers..just checked and they are over 1 million..very impressive...CONGRATULATIONS!.
.You have an innovative and creative approach to woodworking that is wonderful!
I like the way the grain runs and matches throughout the seat, very well done sir!
Glad you liked it James! :)
Wow, great job. Neil, your carving skills are incredible. 👍
Thnks sir 😊😊👍
Proof that five percent of a scrap wood challenge is better than no scrap wood challenge at all.
Beautiful, functional Eye Candy for the soul, Neil. Outstanding carving work and the water highlight is stunning. I'd be afraid to put it in the water and ding it up. Looking forward to seeing it completed. Thanks Neil for all the tips, tricks and exemplary craftsmanship!!
I hope you row with pinkies up because that is one fancy seat indeed! Beautifully done!
Your patience still amazes me, and the final result is just gorgeous
Thanks very much! :)
Making a stool from this seat design has been on my project list for a long time. You might get to it before I do.
You should do it it Nick - I'm not sure if I'll get to it but maybe. Thanks again for the design, it's a stunner and was fun to make! :)
Now you've got me thinking of making custom seats for farm tractors. There's a lot of people in my area who have show tractors and would probably love a nice custom wooden seat.
Absolutely incredible craftsmanship. Every project you undertake always turns out perfectly!
Thanks Callum - I'm not sure they all turn out perfectly though. :)
Not only an accomplished Woodworking Maker....but a skilled sculptor as well! Beautiful work!!!!
It’s so beautiful, I can’t wait to see the rest of this project

Thanks Vickie - glad you like it! :)
Very nice, very nice indeed. I love how the plans call for multiple contoured pieces glued together and then shaped but you have the skills to make it from one big block. I'd live to have the skills you have, it would make life so much quicker and so much easier! Awesome video, I can't wait to see the finish Kayak 👍👍👍👍👍
That is absolutely stunning... gorgeous work on this kayak.

Such a fantastic job, you are a true artist :)
😊😊👍
I'll never build something like this, but I pick up a lot of techniques watching this as well as all your videos. I love how you approach a complicated piece and come up with methods to pull it off. I have similar tools and can apply the techniques to my projects. Not saying I have the same skill level, but I'll give it a go as you say!
That's some gorgeous work, sir!!!
This is a piece of art 🤩
A work of art
Yet again perfection personified ⚒️👌👍

Neil, your work makes Mathias Wandel's look like Heath Robinson's. That's definitely a compliment, just in case there was any doubt.
