- Let me show you how to make your very own eco friendly bamboo straws, in this complete step by step guide, you will be able to make your own in no time. Bamboo is a fantastic material that is strong, and in comparison to plastic, it is better for the envirionment and when compared to paper it is much longer lasting.
The process of making your very own straws starts with the bamboo cane being cut to size. Whilst you could cut them to your preffered length, I go for about 15cms. After this, each straw is cleaned inside with a drillbit and a metal rod of some kind. Then each straw is delicately sanded to remove rough edges, and to make it look nicer. Finally we detox the bamboo from its natural toxins with a boiling water and salt solution.
After a few runs through, the straw is finished and you can enjoy your favourite drink. Although these straws may not be quite big enough for boba tea! As a set of four these straws make a fantastic gift, and can be used again and again. When they do come to the end of there natural life, you can add them to your compost heap.

Yes, bamboo straws are great, and so are those metal ones
THIS IS SO COOL! xxx
Thank you! (:
In my house a lot of bamboo like that. the hole from the bamboo is uniform and there is no need to drill it again. your bamboo is cool and a great idea as an organic straw.
The straws work great and when they come to the end of their life they can be added to the compost. What things do you have in your home that are made from bamboo? 😮
@@CarvedCulture Yes, brother. Bamboo straws can be recycled into compost. some home furniture made of bamboo, tables, chairs, flower shelves.
If you add a layer of tape around one side of the bamboo when your cutting it it should prevent it from cracking down the sides.
That is a great idea, thank you so much! 😊

What kind of bamboo plant do I need?
There are different species of bamboo and not all are the same, bamboo straws are typically made from young stems. Pseudostachyum or Phyllostachys edulis can be used for making bamboo straws but you can use many other types too.
@@CarvedCulture Where can I buy some?
I did it with Woodprix.
