    I wish these bamboo cups could be used for drinking Zamzam water by all pilgrims during Hajj and Umrah. This would be most eco-friendly and help in avoiding the mind-boggling plastic wastes now produced during these pilgrimages especially.
    I hope someone in authority takes the initiative and brings in this beautiful bamboo cups replacement, in Sha Allah .

    • @edi9892
      @edi9892 Před 4 lety +1

      @boomblagen There are far better thermo flasks available, but bamboo should be used more as a building material again and since some bamboo survives - 20°C I'm inclined to recommend to start using it in the West too as it's faster to replace as other wood and could be used for other materials that are currently non-recyclable (it doesn't need that long drying of normal wood and it can even be made into a better quality alternative to cotton). However, my biggest grievance is planned obsolescence. I experienced it first hand. I'm a PhD in Chemistry and my employer went bankrupt and I had still debts from before and now all my fancy clothes are rags and my bed broke down after less than 6 years so that I had to sleep on the floor less than a year after losing my job!
      Back in the old days, boots lasted many years and coats a lifetime and a Kimono was even passed down over generations. Just imagine all the wasted materials, energy and money that Co ld be saved if it wasn't for those capitalist pigs... (no, I'm not a communist, but our interest rate based society doesn't work either, I'd want the gold standard again; back then people of low incomes could still afford more than the upper class today in many ways as inflation is totally skewed).

    • @edi9892
      @edi9892 Před 4 lety +1

      @boomblagen I see it a little differently. Please hear me out:
      1) In Europe, less than 5% of the surface is left in its natural state (if we can call it even natural). Most forests are monocultures for nothing but timber production. They won´t allow trees nor carcasses to rot and decay and thus we lack insects and fungi, which build the foundation of the food chain. In some places, even the woods are treated with pesticides and the last European jungles [1] are cut down for the timber or land. In Germany, most wild game was extinct by the 1600s and Switzerland had almost literally no forest left in the 19th c. Moreover, the redirection of rivers, drying of swamps, exploiting peat, intensive farming and mining pretty much finished nature off long before you were born. After the countries realised their mistake, they imported and pseudo-natural landscapes created, which lack the original species, especially the diversity and the fine-tuned balance of the ecosystem.
      2) growing e.g. bamboo as crop could spare the forests so that we could do our best to renaturalise parts of them, by importing the native species and plants from the last refuges. This could be done, because we´d need far less land for cultivating bamboo.
      3) growing it here would avoid idiots shipping it all over the god damn world (like Gampas breed in Thailand, skinned in Maroco and sold in France). It would allow us to control how it is farmed (sustainability) and we wouldn´t poison our waters like the Chinese do, as we´re far more aware of production processes and take HSE seriously.
      [1] I don´t know the English term. It´s similar to a tropic jungle in that it has about 5 layers of foliage with more ground cover, climbing plants etc. and is harbouring countless species. You´d mostly recognise it as you can´t walk with all the thorn-brushes, rotting deadwood with mushrooms etc. Whereas most woods I´ve seen have only dead leaves and pine-needles on the floor with no small plants, nor mushrooms.

    • @edi9892
      @edi9892 Před 4 lety +1

      @boomblagen It was just an idea, but my main point is that our nature is already messed up and that we should really cut down on pesticides, monocultures and let some forests and meadows in a natural state.
      BTW: I´ve moved to Switzerland for my PhD and I´ve seen pictures of the Rhine valley before it was transformed into a water-highway. That one construction project alone utterly destroyed the fishing industry (within a few decades 90% of the fish species and 95% of the fish population disappeared) and not to speak of the grassland/wetland that has been lost.
      I´m really sad that this beauty is lost and that I had never a chance of seeing it.

    I'm replacing my "like" with this comment, because your self-made cup deserves more than that thumb up symbol, I would fill your cup with some juice for you.

      Kharee McGhee-bey thanks for leaving a comment to Grandpa Amu but I think he sort of hinted at the end of the video that this bottle is only suitable for non flavoured things such as water.

    手工制作虽然慢些,但是能够修身养性。电动工具虽然快,但是快会带来焦虑感,同时,还存在极多安全隐患,一不留神就会受伤。我看到有很多英文评论,但是,我想,西人是很难这样慢慢做活的,如果能做到,我也会赞历害了! (不是指光做什么什么,而是指在心理上认同手工制作的内涵和外延)
