    If you’ve had acupuncture and tattoos before then you can survive this test. The shock is alarming at first but after first couple you get used to it.

    If you're worried it's really not that bad. The shocks feel like a rubber band hitting you but you get used to it after a few minutes. The needles hurt a little going in but it's not too bad. I've had dry needling done which was 1000xs worse

    Going to get my 1st EMG/NCV done this Monday because I've had bad nerve pain in my right leg since August 2019. I hurt myself at work and workers comp has been fighting me getting treatment every step of the way. Hopefully this will finally tell me why I have this electric shock pain every day. Its a nightmare.

    Maybe this dr should do my emg. I went today for one and could t finish it because it hurt so bad. I dealt with the shocks and the first needle but I couldn’t complete the needles. I was crying and in so much pain. The dr seemed annoyed. I have been upset with myself all day for not being able to power through. People say if you’ve had kids, acupuncture, tattoos, you can do it. I’ve had three kids naturally without meds and I have 15+ tattoos. I couldn’t handle. Idk what to do now.

    I had this done a few days ago. I was expecting the worst, based on comments I'd read. 4 needle sticks. 2 in each leg. Very very minor pain. The shocks made me giggle like being tickled but later on after the test was over, I had muscle spasms and had to take a muscle relaxer. The test showed I have nerve compression due to my severe scoliosis. Nothing I didn't already know.

    Mine was absolutely awfull. Electrical shocks felt like I was getting electrocuted. The needle was thick and the doctor was constantly stirring it. I have been through alot in my life. But this test was a really traumatic experience.
    Before I got it my symptoms where all gone. But I decided to go through with it since I already had the appointment.
    After the tests everything is 100x than before. Pins and needles in legs, feet, arms and hands even in places I never had them before.
    0/10 would not do again

      This sounds like the ones I've had. It was as far from a "needle stick" as it could be. Like a huge nail driven into my front calf muscle. I called it quits when he then asked me to move my foot up. I couldn't. The *nail* was so far into the muscle I couldn't raise my foot.

      @@thaliaandgypsy1353 I felt the same way after 1st time I had it done 11 yrs ago! Dr said I have to have test again-i said no way I will take this test again unless you give me a Valium. So she did! Dr who did the EMG approved of taking the med 2 hours b4 test. And it was a godsend! Took away my anxiety & the test was SO MUCH less painful this time. I was not jumping off the table & yelling out wincing in pain like 1st time.
      I wonder if some of the test Drs give too much/too powerful of a shock than is necessary? I’ll never forget that 1st test! You’re right, it was traumatic. Now I have to have both legs done. But I’m not scared as long as I can have a Valium for this EMG.

  • @loooooooooby
    @loooooooooby Před 2 lety +2

    I'll say this much about the test. I actually delayed getting mine done because my dad said it was one of the most painful tests he'd ever done. And he's had several heart episodes and a bad back and knees, so he's been tested plenty. But I finally sucked it up and got mine done. Mine was for my foot, I had to see if I had tarsal tunnel syndrome. Maybe it's because my test results were negative, maybe my doctor was just good...or maybe he was just bad and wasn't thorough enough. But my test was largely painless. The shocks were weird, but not very painful. It was forces a sort of involuntary reflex. It tightens up a small target section of your body for a split second, that's it. The needles were okay. Just as my doctor told me, the needles are smaller than the ones they use to draw blood. Doc sprayed me with some kind of cooling spray before each needle. I didn't feel the 3 that went into my leg. The 2 that went directly onto my foot were a little uncomfortable. I compare the pain level to what I felt getting my COVID vaccine shots, which weren't bad either. It was significantly less painful than the cortisone shot I had in my heel earlier this year.
    So obviously everyone will experience it differently, and for each different part of the body. All I can speak to is my own experience, and all I can say is that I wish I hadn't let fear delay me getting the test done, because there was nothing to worry about.

    I had this done recently . They shocked my foot , calves , thighs, arm, and upper back . Then they went back and stuck a needle in all the same places i received the shock. Some say it hurt and others say it doesn't. It's different for everyone. The needle I didn't mind but i was sore from it the next day in my thigh. The electric shock was painful n certain areas and not as painful in others.

    I had this test conducted this morning at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL for some numbness that comes and goes in two toes in my right foot. I can attest to the fact that this nerve study is nothing to worry about. The electrical stimulations, done by a technician, are quite tolerable and absent of pain. They're akin to a rubber band being snapped on your skin. The follow-on needle in the various muscles (the needle is very fine) was again, no worse than a shot in your shoulder muscle; in fact, I hardly noticed it. This was by done by a neurologist. The doctor indicated if you're in pain when you come in for the procedure, that can affect your sensations. Additionally, if you're anxious about the tests, that can affect you as well. Finally, she indicated that the test on the arm, versus the leg, can produce slightly more acute sensations. Bottom line, relax and breath. BTW, my test results were normal.
