    Just a quick little video to highlight the differences between the F22 and the F35 as always keep in mind the F35 wasn't really built to dogfight in the traditional sense so its not its fault it gets smoked in dogfights, if an F35 has merged many many mistakes have been made, as always keep in mind these are just mods and don't represent the TRUE capabilities of these highly classified aircraft.

    Not to mention that over the last 40 years, high-g turning dogfights have been extremely rare and are going to get rarer with the F-35 sensor fusion and modern IFF/data links. It’s far more important to be low observable and have high SA than be able to turn inside another aircraft. Of course, the F-22 can do ALL of those.

    I dunno if this has already been mentioned, but the ability for the F-35 pilot to shoot missiles off boresight thanks to their helmet mounted displays and the plane's distributed aperture system might mean that the F-35 doesn't necessarily need to turn into its target to get a missile lock, and it's possible the F-22 might have the same capabilities in the future.

      So I worked with armament in the USAF, and I can confirm that’s not an F-35 exclusive. The capability exists on the F-15’s, F-16’s and the F-22’s as well because it’s just a link between the JHMCs system and the AIM-9X. I think that was the acronym, but basically it’s just the helmet paired with the AIM-9X’s camera.

    I think what a lot of people don't understand about the F-35 is that it was designed to be a node in a distributed system. GS was kind of making this point. Yes, a lone F-35 would get absolutely creamed in a one-v-one with an F-22. However, that's not how it was designed to fight. If a (admittedly fantastical, never gonna happen) hostile F-22 managed to get that close to an F-35, it would be seconds away from being creamed by another F-35 or (eventually) a missile truck drone. The F-35 is a sensor/network package first, weapon system second. It's designed for a world where the targeting system is on one aircraft, the weapon is on another, and the engagement authority is yet somewhere else.

Japan was also given a chance to acquire a downgraded export variant of the F-22, but they were uninterested in helping to develop what was basically a watered down F-22. The UK and Israel have extremely strong ties with the US. It was really funny as that was the first nickname given to it by it's pilots. However I understand that it finally found it's true nickname amongst pilots as they found it's proper role and more info was declassified, due to how it does in strikes, which is primarily how it fights; it is now the "Panther." It makes sense too. It goes in unseen and pounces, then is off. Definitely want to see a BVR fight against the two though. That would be a much more interesting and fair fight as they are both stealth aircraft. Stealth doesn't help much in a dogfight, I mean the F-16C will fairly consistently beat the F-35 in a dogfight.

    • @starbase218
      @starbase218 Před 3 lety +21

      Only thing about that is the F-35 can't actually carry any AIM-9 in a stealth configuration. The Sidewinder's seeker head needs to see its target to lock on before launch. With the F-22 that's possible as it has special bays with rails that extend and angle the Sidewinder outwards. The F-35 OTOH needs to carry the AIM-9s on wing pylons.
      I've been wondering about this. I mean, block 4 F-35s are supposed to be able to carry 6 AMRAAMs. I don't know how realistic DCS is (I don't play it myself, just here to watch GS and learn stuff), but quite often radar-guided missiles seem to be easy to defend against. It's good to get a guy to be defensive, I guess, but wouldn't internally carried AIM-9s increase the lethality of the F-35? Just wondering.
      But I guess nobody actually knows how realistic DCS is wrt the F-35 and F-22 (and possibly other types).

This is why the US military is apprehensive about Japan's tactical fighter program, they want to use the yf-23 airframe but it would basically have f-15j and f-35 avionics. Yes, they would be because SU-57 and F-22 were designed for close-range, visual range engagements. The F-35 is meant to use its stealth and excellent sensors to engage from beyond visual range with long range missiles. Honestly, putting the F-35 in a close range dogfight with anything isn't really doing justice to its capabilities.

    This was awesome! But I'd also like to see the F-22 guns only VS the F-35 with guns and missiles. Is that possible in the future?

    You should make a Canadian Fighter Bid video where you compare the F35, the F18 Super Hornet and the Saab Gripen against one another.

  • @maxwellkuechenmeister8161

    And people still say the F-35 is way more advanced because of a helmet but it can’t compare to F-22 cause how it performs can’t be realesed

    I get the feeling they need to reinstate F-22 production 😆

      at this point it would be cheaper to design the successor with the last 20 years of technological improvements than restarting old production while trying to update 23 year old design.

      @@Asghaad did u hear that old earth update nerfed the f-22 they removed it out of the game so those who have it are the only ones in the game and if u trade then they are worth a lot

    The f22 may always be my favorite fighter jet, but they did the f35 dirty in dcs. While it would still be outperformed by the f22, it should realistically have much better maneuverability than displayed here.
