Nicklas Bäckström as well is a lock I believe. Truly one of the most severely underrated players ever. Hit 1000 points in a relatively even amount of games and has been a crucial part to Ovechkins success over the years. I just don’t see a way they induct Ovi, but not him.
He doesn’t have much for individual awards, with a lone all star game being his only claim, but that can be chopped up more to how the all star game works with each team getting one and when you play with Ovi, they’re sending Ovi instead. Most other teams he probably would’ve had a lot more appearances.
Overall though team wise he has a Stanley Cup, which he was critical in, 2 world championship golds, an Olympic silver and co-captained one of the most successful regular season teams of his era.
Real shame that hip just never healed and has now seemingly ended his career unceremoniously. Guy’s a great player and absolutely magical passing.
Amazing breakdown! Backstrom is a lock, an absolute magician in his prime and you’re right. Ovi doesn’t sniff the all tome goals record without him.
Others that should make the hall if they retired today are Nathan McKinnon and Kucherov as well. Another that is almost certainly on the way is Cale Makar.
Agree across the board! All well on the way.
nate wouldnt get in ... yet. kuch deserves it for sure
Definitely Kuch. If he didn’t miss two seasons worth of games over the last 5 years he would be well over 1000pts right now.
Cale should be inducted if he retired today in my opinion.
Calder Trophy in his rookie season.
Norris finalist every single year except his rookie season.
One time Norris winner.
Conn Smythe winner.
Stanley Cup Champion.
He's basically done it all, despite being held back by injuries.
If he didn't miss 20% of the season, he would've certainly won the Norris over Fox and probably also over Karlsson.
Kuch is a champ!
Jonathan Quick 100%. Cale Makar is very close for me, so possibly him as well.
Quick is a lock for sure! Cale well on his way too.
Probably should have made the list for people over 30, we all know mcdavid Matthews and draisital are all heading that way but you could have made room for guys like kessel and pavelski
For sure! Part 2 on the way, lots of great names in the comments.
I appreciate you talking about Toews's faceoff eliteness. When he played less than 90 games in a season the hawks were out of the top 10 and near the bottom of f/o%. When he played over 90 we were in the top 10 in f/o% and we had made the playoffs every year. He singlehandedly carried our team to the top 10 every season. Its hard to watch without him. Its so bad, we have been last since covid.
Elite in the face off dot!
The algorithm brought me here. Love the content! New sub!
Haha glad to hear the algo is liking us! Lots of good stuff on the way, appreciate the sub!
Great editing. Great delivery. Great content. Subbed.
Thanks so much, appreciate it! Lots more to come :)
As a Penguins fan, I'm truly impressed with Ovechkin's scoring ability. Yeah, he's 72 behind Gretzky, but Gretzky had the luxury of getting a lot of those in an era where goaltending is not what it is today. Credit where credit is due.
Very well put! Came up in an era of hard nosed hockey and still scored. The record is still within reach, even tho he’s off to a slow start this year.
You and me both! I'm die-hard Pens, but DAMN Ovi is GREAT!
I cant believe this channel has less then 100 subs! Great video!!
Thank you!! Lots more to come :)
Kopitar deserves HoF status
He’s on the list! Skip to 8:40 :)
@beyond_thebench I know. I'm agreeing with you. I'm also a Kings fan and he's my favourite player.

What a list, all worthy careers in the making for sure!
Jonathan toews gets looked over way too much.... very strange, possibly one the greatest captains ever.
@@stephenabeach1303 he is not playing; I only included players active this season
@leafsfanforever2896 Oh yes, that's understandable. I just don't get the hate toews gets sometimes arguably the best captain. imo the best over that 09-16 was some of the best leadership I've ever witnessed. He is slept on way too much. He changed the chicago blackhawks franchise. Kane is brilliant, but toews created it.
Also Carey Price.
Claude Giroux....95%
Nikita Kucherov....90%
Leon Draisaitl.....90%
Sergei Bobrovsky.....85%
Nathan MacKinnon....75%
Joe Pavelski....75%
David Pastrnak....65%
Brad Marchand....75%
Great list!
Not sure I agree on Bobrovsky I'd say he's like 65% Quick would be 90% & I don't think Bobrovsky has accomplished quite as much individually or team wise so he may get in but he's got a much lower chance than that
@@bradybeijes3232 He has 2 Vezina’s, which gives him a pretty good shot!
@@beyond_thebench He's got a shot but Curtis Joseph and Henrik Lundqvist and Chris Osgood aren't in the hall so I just don't think it's quite this likely Considering I think these guys were more deserving and never got in
Pretty sure Lunqdvist is in now but still
Kucherov, Quick, Letang, Marchand, Price, Josi, Doughty, o'reilly
All HoF’ers yep!
@@beyond_thebench O’Reilly??? Are you kidding?
@@Afeeling I'm guessing you didn't have time to look him up? He's one of the best two-way players in the modern game.
@@Afeeling Has a cup, Conn Smythe, good stats…
Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak, and arguably Charlie McAvoy are all making compelling cases too
McAvoy has a long ways to go.
Phil Kessel is a lock in for the HoF and don't argue it man has 3 cups
Oh snap! Great name drop, almost forgot about ole Phil haha
He will have trouble because he is American .go back to the 90’s and there is at least 7 American players that should be in and have been snubbed
Anyone that watches hockey can tell you Vasilevsky is HoF worthy, if Lundqvist can get into it then there is absolutely no way someone as talented, consistent, and with the accolades of Vasy doesn’t make it in
100%!
Easiest way to tell who will make it, especially for offensive players, is simply to look at the top 150 players by all-time stats. If they are in there, the odds are they will get into the hall. Give them a cup and almost 100%. Goalies, prolly top 100 are in, defense, points yes, but I would say that +/- might better something that pushes them over the top.
Great way to look at it ya!
Worth noting that Jagr hasn't been inducted since he's still playing hockey. He's 55 and could probably contribute on some 4th lines around the league.
Jagr is an animal, crazy he’s still playing, and at a high level!
Great video. But, another potential player I think should get inducted is Jonathan Quick.
Definitely a hall of famer! Got him in part 2 🤫
A few others that I think will make the hall of fame or are worthy of the hall of fame:
*Nicklas Backstrom. By no means does he immediately come to mind as a hall of famer, but his stats are of a hall of famer without question. 1,033 points in 1,105 games is really impressive, 0.93 points per game is the 21st highest among active players with more than 500+ games, and 7th among active players with 750+ games. His offensive output has outpaced the likes of Anze Kopitar and Claude Giroux. Kopitar I agree should be a hall of famer, and there's no doubt for me that as an offensive weapon Backstrom has simply been better. He has also been an elite first-line center in the NHL for his entire 17-year career. A stretch of high-level play for that long where he is consistently getting 60-80 points is remarkable. It's rare a player is elite for 10+ years, Backstrom has managed to do it for 17 years. I think his case gets further cemented when you look at how he has performed against the greatest players in hockey history from his home country of Sweden. He is 6th all time in terms of scoring among Swedish players, 5th in terms of points per game for players with 500+ games, and has offensively outpaced Daniel Alfredsson, Henrik Zetterberg, and the Sedins. Hell he has only 8 fewer points than Daniel Sedin in 201 fewer games. I think that comparison alone should cement his case considering that Daniel Sedin was an easy hall of fame case.
*Claude Giroux. He's sitting on 1,033 points in 1,133 games, but his performance during the 2010s deserves special attention. From 2009-10 to 2019-20, the five highest scoring players were Patrick Kane, Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin, Claude Giroux, and Steven Stamkos. While Giroux benefitted from being healthy whereas Stamkos and Tavares (more on him later) had to deal with major injuries, his point pace was still remarkably strong. If you want another totally arbitrary window of time, Giroux was the highest-scoring player in the NHL between the 2010-11 and 2015-16 seasons. While he would've lost out to Crosby, Kane, and Stamkos if they were fully healthy, the fact he was close to their level for a decade speaks to his talent. The fact he is still performing well offensively will I think further cement his case in a few years, especially if he can surpass 1,200 points (considering 42 out of 51 players with 1,200+ career points are hall of famers, and four of the non-hall of famers are future hall of famers in Kane, Crosby, Ovechkin, and Malkin.)
*John Tavares. He's basically just a slightly better but more injury-prone Claude Giroux. 1,007 points in 1,064 games, and he's showing few signs of slowing down. He could very easily reach 1,200 points, which I think would make him a lock for the hall of fame. As it stands though, that point production over a sample of 1,064 games is good enough for me.
*Victor Hedman. A Conn Smyth winner, Norris trophy winner, and received Norris votes in 9 out of 10 seasons between 2013-14 and 2022-23 as well as being a finalist in six consecutive seasons from 2016-17 to 2021-22. That streak of six consecutive Norris nominations, by the way, is extremely impressive. I'm going through the list of Norris trophy winners and nominees, and the list I'm finding for players to do that consists of the following (albeit this list is not comprehensive): Bobby Orr, Nicklas Lidstrom, and Ray Bourque. I think Hedman is going to get into the hall of fame very quickly. Not to mention he is still performing well, so I think his already strong case will only get stronger over the next couple of seasons.
*Kris Letang. This is one that I am a huge fan of, but I think it could be difficult. That being said, Letang received Norris votes in 9 seasons, and I think it's uncontroversial to say he was a strong top-pairing defenseman for the vast majority of his career. Hell I think he still is. Plus he was a major contributor to three cup-winning teams (albeit he's only classified as a two-time cup winner because he didn't play during the 2016-17 postseason.) I think injuries will hurt his case more than anything because his career offensive pace is extremely impressive. How impressive? 14th highest points per game in NHL history among defenseman with over 1,000 games played. His offensive pace and statistics are similar to Sergei Zubov despite playing in a lower-scoring environment. It wouldn't surprise me if Letang had better defensive numbers than Zubov considering Zubov could be rather one-dimensional. His career numbers are also rather similar to Victor Hedman's, who I think will easily get in the hall of fame. However the Zubov comparison really seals it for me.
*Ryan Suter. This one is based a lot on reading hall of fame voters, but there's a lot to like about his hall of fame case. For one, he is two games played shy of becoming the 10th defenseman in NHL history with 1,400+ games and 600+ points, a list currently (as of January 3, 2024 at 6:00 PM CST) composed entirely of hall of famers and Zdeno Chara (who will certainly be a hall of famer.) I don't like using TOI/game as a stat because I think it's inherently flawed, but I imagine voters might love a player who between 2007-08 and 2021-22 averaged 25:47 of ice time per game. Not to mention Suter getting Norris votes in 10 consecutive seasons from 2009-10 to 2018-19 and just in general being a really strong defensive defenseman over that time. He's not as much of a standout or no-brainer like Erik Karlsson, but I imagine Suter won't have any issues making it into the hall of fame.
Incredible break down! All these are great names, all with strong resumes. Ryan Suter is interested, didn’t have him on our radar. We have a part 2 video launching soon which we cover a few of these players 👀
Definitely agree with Letang. In fact not exactly sure why he wasn't here. He was clearly one of the core big four players for the Pens earlier in the 2000's, right alongside Sid, Geno, and Flower. And after that he remains apart of the core big three for the Penguins for many, many seasons now. He is apart of a very dominant Penguins Dynasty!
And is still going strong today. Actually he just set a scoring record for most points in a single game by a defenseman.
How do you make a list like this and not include Phil “the thrill” kessel
Love Phil! He’ll get the call.
Do you think Backstrom makes it?
He’ll be close! I’d say he does get in, Ovechkin’s right hand man for many many years.
Don't get me wrong....I love Kopitar and Toews. Both are FANTASTIC players that any team would be lucky to have.....but the numbers just aren't there. Being in the teens among Europeans doesn't make Kopitar among the best in the world. And Toews being a face off specialist and leader just don't cut it.
Kopitar has 2 cups, 2 Byngs, 2 Selkes, over 1,300 games played and over 1100 points…that’s easily enough to get in. If he doesn’t thats a robbery. And ya Toews numbers aren’t massive, but his cups and reputation will get him in.
@@beyond_thebench The awards may push him over....I hope they do. He deserves it.
Pasta needs a couple more 40 plus goal seasons. But he’s only 27 and will easily get that. Marchand is close. Probably needs to play at least two more seasons to get to 1000 points
Ya both putting together strong cases for sure. I think Marchand is already pretty much a lock.
I hope so. Having a ring really helps. He’s really close to 1000 games, 400 goals and 1000 points.
@@mshat18 Ring helps big time for sure.
Thoughts on brent burns?
Makes a decent case for sure! Norris, 1300+ games, solid stats.
Jaromir Jagr is also still active and he is a zombie, he just played a professional game in top league in Czechia when he is 51yo.
At this rate, he will be put in Hall of Fame after he dies.
Yes Jagr is a lock for sure, kept this list just active in the NHL, for now.
Lots of good names being thrown around in the comments, but Pietrangelo should be considered too!
Absolutely! Part 2 coming soon :)
My boy Mackinnon getting slept on... again.
Slept on a bit, for now… haha
Do you think Sergei Bobrovsky would make it?
He makes a strong case! His career numbers are just as good as Lundqvist, mind you he’s played less games. 2 Vezina’s as well. He’s in the convo for sure.
Really good video, but you need to stop using whatever A.I filter you’re using on the pictures of these players. Just look at the bench behind your coverage of Malkin, looks like a GTA mission or something. Half the time the players you’re talking about don’t look anything like they do irl
Lol Appreciate the feedback! Will get that cleaned up for the next one!
I get argued with but I think I personally have a higher standard for what the HOF should be (rightly or wrongly). Should be a step above being a really good player IMO. I wonder if Kopitar and Karlsson should be there on this list (argue but please no insults). Now before you call me heartless: Why Is Mogilny not already in the HOF? Mogilny should be there and should have been there years ago
Mogilny needs to be in 100%. We cover Kopitar and Karlsson in part 2 that we just released actually!
why do the faces look ai-generated on some photos like on 9:04?
Bit of modifying for stylizing, will adjust that! Cause sometimes it looks really bad haha

Yep!
Kucherov will also end up in before its all said and done
Definitely!
Do you think Tuuka Rask, Johnathan Quick. Carey Price will all be HoFers
All three no doubt. Price has no ring but we’re seeing that criteria being look past in recent years.
price is surely getting in cause he has an olympic gold, hart trophy, vezina trophy, jennings trophy, ted lindsay award and is the winningest goaltender in canadiens history. Plus at least he got to go to a cup final in one where he kind of single handedly carried his team to it. Cup is a team award so him not actually getting his name on it i don't think will be an issue like look at Lundqvist and Luongo@@beyond_thebench
@@ethanparker7900 Ya his individual accomplishments combined with some dominating playoff performances should get him in!
it surely is important to have a healthy mix of both individual and team accolades if a first ballot case is to be made let alone any case at all 100% like for team award he ofc has olympic gold than yah the individual side with hart trophy, jennings trophy, vezina trophy, etc@@beyond_thebench

Toews is currently not a "current player"
True! At the time we produced the video he hadn’t declared he was fully stepping away from the game yet.
Curious to the extent of AI usage on this one. Obviously leads to the intended engagement, but a weird reality we live in.
Use a bit for writing, and on some photo editing. But everything else is done by a real person :)
No kucherov?
Kuch is definitely well on his way! If we were to do a part.2, he’d crack the list.
No Barkov?
Barky makes a solid case, just not on this specific list!
Marchand, Kessel, Kucherov
Love the Kessel pick!
Why do you hate Nikita Kucherov? What has he done to deserve to be hated? Why the fuck isn't he even in the honorable mentions? He is the best player among the russians, maybe the best in the league for now.
Not hated! Going to get him into part 2 for a full breakdown 😎

I'd say Jagr, but he's not going to retire in the next decade so....

Jagr is obviously lock! He’s still playing, just not in the NHL. I saw a tweet actually of someone saying he needs to retire so he can get inducted lol

@@angushiltz4880 He's not playing in the NHL. By that standard I'm deserving of consideration.
@@joer8854 Price hasn't retired officially and his contract is still valid. So technically speaking that still makes him a current player. And that was what this video was about. Predicting future HHOF of current players.
To be eligible for the HHOF a player can't have played pro or international games in the prior 3 years. The HHOF uses the official retirement announcement as the starting point of those 3 years.
Gotta go with Tavares maybe
Definitely!
No one else should be allowed in the Hall of Fame until Chris Osgood is inducted. Shits a joke.
FACTS!
When Brad Marchand gets in ❤🎉
Does he get a statue in Boston??
prolly not a statue but he has a decent case for the Hall. Been almost a point per game player a big chunk of his career and he prolly would've been the Conn Smythe trophy winner in 2019 if the Bruins had won game 7 of the 2019 final instead of the Blues. He surely was my pick for the Bruins if they had won game 7 instead given his stats compared to all the other bruin players@@beyond_thebench
@@ethanparker7900Solid points! He’ll be in the convo for sure!
yah that game 7 loss was heartbreaking cause then it would be 2 cups for marchy instead of 1 and marchy prolly would've been named the MVP and the bruins would've been in the dynasty talks like the blackhawks from 2009-2017 and Lightning from 2015-2022 (although 1 is better than none) and it would've been at home game 7 after the title years earlier in game 7 of 2011 was on the road. The 2013 loss wasn't bad cause it was in 6 games and even if it would've had went to game 7 it would've been on the road like in 2011, the 2019 one was the one the one heartbreaking for those reasons above@@beyond_thebench
