Zhang throwing his 4-damage pistol away after one shot is the most heartbreaking thing in the game.
Chrysalids and Mutons were way more intimidating in XCOM1 IMO.
As in this XCOM or UFO Defense?
@@DinnerForkTongue Both. But I was only talking about how XCOM2 seemed to have nerfed Chrysalids and Mutons. EU, EW, and XCOM2 are the ones I played. I watched Marbs play UFO Defense and EVERYTHING in that game is terrifying. Even the fences. :)
Stunning game play. Nice capture off the muton.
19:00 sure, both can be tricky, but with portent, if you move your squad with the VIP (like your supposed to do in every other VIP mission), you *will* get fucked.
In friends in low places, playing optimally like every other VIP mission will get you through it just fine, even without knowledge of the spawns and scripting.
35:55 dense smoke is always a no brainer pick for me.
It makes smoke grenades have +40 to defense. that's as much as high cover, that stacks with high cover, on demand, up to 3 times per mission (if you take smoke and mirrors(and I always do, since I've always felt medkits were kinda overrated))
Its nutty as hell.
Marbz the Guile! Amazing ep, can't wait for the next, as always
26:55 Well, there are a few ways to remove Overwatch:
- Kill the watcher
- Disabling Shot
- Suppression
- Psi Panic (must succeed)
- Making it move with Flush
None are exactly practical, of course.
29:53 Good assessment. For Overwatch to trigger, you need to move from one observed tile to another observed tile. If you move to a tile out of sight, or from an unseen tile into an observed one, Overwatch doesn't trigger.
what about medals?:)
I wonder how many people found out how to get the blaster launcher normally before this mission came out. Most try hards don’t think to let a scout slip by in order to get a battleship to show up.
Would you please develop this strategy further? I'm interested
@@herman1francis battleships only spawn naturally after another ufo escapes. if this happens, sometimes, a battleship will show up scanning the area. if not intercepted, it'll destroy that countries satellite. but intercepting the scanning ship will have it be a battleship.
What? How?!
@@DinnerForkTongue When you let a scout ship slip by, and fail to intercept it, there is a follow up ship a few days later that is a battleship, which rewards the fusion reactor needed to make the blaster launcher. So in order to get the upgraded rocket launcher, you have to fail a scout ship intercept mission on purpose, or by ineptitude. If you succeed every time, you don’t get a battle ship.
@@grimmlinn Oh no, that part I know. I mean how you do to shoot it down this early on with just interceptors and missiles?
algo comment
Bit lucky there with the 2 overwatchs. Could have killed your heavy if both hit
i'm still tickled about how you've only been getting supports and snipers until zhang right now. arpit adds another notch on his ayy capture belt!
Nicely played, Marbz!
Marbz have you considered somo quality of life mods?
He has, but he said in episode 1 that this will be pure vanilla.
Pretty ballsy, capturing a Muton on this mission. I don't think I've ever seen an XCOM player do this.
Really? its a pretty common strategy, since its usually alone and always spawns in the same place.
@@ijones36 Perhaps my memory deceives, and I need to watch some other classic XCOM playthroughs. I can think of worse things!
@@DrownedInExile Worst case scenario with a capture attempt on that muton is that you can disengage and kill it if things go sideways.
Its always good to make the attempt, because its relatively low risk.
It's fairly common IME. I only don't bother because I only ever play on Marathon.
Maciej filling in for the assault this mission you really like to make this more exciting Marbs
In almost every Campaign that i saw Zhang was an Psi Operative maybe in this too (just an tip)
He has been a PsiOp every time in the 3 campaigns I have played.
He's a psion in less than half of my 20-ish campaigns. But he has nice high Will, so good chance to be one.
When blasters coming?
That muton capture will hopefully have cascading effects into the future of this run. Do you think that skipping heavy lasers would be worth it though? You’re already far in the laser tech tree
I never found skipping lasers to be worth it. The plasma tree takes a long time to research, each weapon is its own individual research project, and they are _extremely_ expensive in Enemy Within. Meanwhile lasers are quick to research since there's only 3 projects, dirt cheap to produce, and a REALLY nice power spike.
Just checking,: when you have a rookie sniper without squad sight, why don't you give them a normal rifle, or a battle rifle? Yes they lose a bit of damage and crit chance, but at least they can move and shoot.
This is not Long War.
@@DinnerForkTongue I honestly forgot that, in vanilla, your snipers forget how to use basic rifles when they get promoted. So bloody weird.
@@o0alessandro0o Ye, it's an awful design decision. They _really_ should've been given Squadsight at Squaddie and a pick between Snap Shot and Headshot at Corporal.
