Do It For The Band: The Women Of The Sunset Strip - VH1 rockDOCS

- The 1980’s were a decade of unprecedented decadence. Wall Street was booming, cocaine was the chic drug of choice, and L.A.’s notorious Glam Metal scene was in full swing on the Sunset Strip.
Ruling that scene were the heavy hitting hair bands and the women who loved them.
Narrated by former 'Cherry Pie' video girl, Bobbie Brown, VH1 Rock Doc: Do It For The Band: The Women Of The Sunset Strip, premiering Friday, April 3rd at 11 PM on VH1 and Saturday, April 4th at 10 PM on VH1 Classic, tells the story of the mistresses of metal - the women who played a big part in the L.A. rock scene but never got any credit - until now.
These are the girls who sacrificed everything for the band - they clothed, bathed, fed, housed, and loved rock stars like Tommy, Nikki, Slash, Axl, Blackie, Jani and many others.
This program was aired in 2009

everyone who said they didn't get the crabs, totally got the crabs 😆🤣
Yeah, we men didn't shave back then.
@@user-tv1le7sw2lAnd they shouldn't shave now

Crabs and more.

60's, 70's and 80's were pinnacle of music.
YUP
I was there. My band played at the Whiskey, Troubadour, The Country Club, FM Station...I even saw Quiet Riot at the Starwood (was not a fan). A huge vocalist saw my band at an FM Station gig, invited me to write with him and I wrote 85% of the lyrics for two of his albums. I'm still getting royalties from those songs now that I'm ASCAP and a published writer. It really was a great time. It was a community for sure, even the rehearsal studios had communities. I was never into any drugs but we were young and full of dreams.
Thanks for uploading the documentary Do It For The Band: The Women Of Sunset Strip because is one of my favorite documentaries
Absolutely 👍 happy you like it.
These women are amazing. I admire Bobbie Brown in particular so much. I read her autobiography and sent her a message. She wrote back! Such a real one. Love her forever 💕
I’ve spent some time with a few of these bands when I was a teen. People can grab their pearls nowadays, but it’s something I’ll always remember and treasure 👍
I bought Bobbi’s book. It’s actually really good. She puts everything out there. I wish they would bring back the Ex wives of rock. I absolutely love that show. Omg to be back in the 80s the greatest part of my life. There was nothing like growing up in that era.
I've read the book too. It really is a great book! And Ex Wives was a great show. Even though it ended over 10 years ago, I do still watch once in awhile. I wish they'd have had more of it but I get it. They were ready to move on.
There will never be another time like the 80s. God Bless America and hard rock, metal, glam and good ol' rock n roll with 🤘🎸👍❣️
81 -.89 days of debauchery
Did u learn blow job techniques?
80's was awesome.....no matter what we did, where we went, what club, whatever....we just had a great time. Meanwhile we held down jobs and just didn't worry. I was always singing in a local rock band, knew all the coolest musicians and bartended for extra cash. Fun fun fun...
I'm 58 years old, I saw everyone of the bands in this documentary. There was a concert every month, sometimes two. This was 1980 to 1989. It was hard coming up with the $11.50 to buy the tickets. Then in 1984 in City Pack stadium in New Orleans, there was the day of Rock N Roll. It was Ozzy,Journey,Brian Adams,Foghat the ticket was $17.50 .Everyone couldn't believe that a concert was expensive. 😂
Wow, who knew that one day these would be considered extremely great prices hehe. What a time to be alive. Thanks for sharing your story.
By '89 it was $50 to see the Who's "last concert". An unbelievable sum. The Stones were $40 just a few months prior.
I had a fantastic time in the 80s, so many crazy times.
I am so grateful to be a teen in the 80s
My absolute favorite time period in rock. Nothing else like it 🎸🔥
I hate that these women feel so bad. I will say you weren’t slits to a lot of us young boys back then. To us you were the most beautiful woman we had ever seen, our first time we were in love. For that one that enamored you the most we’d watch the videos you were in more for you than the band! I may have been a little kid but I know it was love because after all these years I still love you and think you are some of the most amazing women on the planet and to me you haven’t lost a step or an inch of pretty. You took care of our idols and no one thanked you for keeping them alive half the time. It took its toll and was hard on you and no one seemed to notice it care. So I’ll thank you all now. You all are just as legendary as the bands you chose to take care of and love.
I don't think they necessarily think of them self as sluts. It's more society that labels em as such. Mostly ugly women who don't have what they have
Awwww. Your mom raised you right! I bet these ladies appreciate your love.
Your one in a million.
Old age set in! That's the hard part!

59 now will always remember being on the Sunset Strip mid 1980s was great ! Lots of fun me being young, wild!
I haven't seen this doc since it aired lol and that decade was some of the most fun shenanigans I ever had w/some great music playing in the background but thank God we didn't have the ability to be documented on social media 😊 😂
Omg could you imagine if social media caught all our shenanigans in the 70s-80s😳! I worked in nightclubs & the music biz in the 80s (still involved, but not as deeply entrenched) & the stuff I saw as well… 😮! Cheers! Jet🧡🎸🎶⚡️🦋🏍
Thank you. I would not be employed today if there were evidence of my past behavior.
Bobbi looked best in Great White’s “Once Bitten, Twice Shy” video. Way before “Cherry Pie.”
She looked amazing during that entire time into the 90s and now she looks great..
A few months to a year before cherry pie
I'm 71 years young and Dancing on Whitesnake Car is on my bucket list.
Yes I was in that category.
I knew David Coverdale (pre-Tawny, bless). He was very kind, also had amazing charisma. At the time I wasn’t into Whitesnake, but he was so gracious & we’d talk about all sorts of music. Have you ever heard his speaking voice? So mesmerising, rich, deep, baritone; can’t fathom how or why he sings so high! Jet 🧡🎸🎶⚡️🦋🏍

I remember when Poison first came out. I remember thinking an all girl band. Cool.
Best music ever and most beautiful women til this day 🤘🤘🤘 so grateful for growing up in the 80´s
Steven Adler had a stroke which left him with a speech impediment
He got the hangover which doesn’t fade
Alone Again was my FAVE ballad. I learned the opening chord on the guitar from my long haired boyfriend and played it over and over and over. lol
Me too Dokken was my FAVORITE band too! I met Don early 90's and got a pic with him.
I can't believe I am still alive AND Well !!! Thank you Lord,,,😎
This was a very interesting video. I thought it would be "oh we were so cool; don't you wish you had been us?" but it really isn't. Times back then were a lot of fun and equal amounts of heart ache. Some people didn't make it through. Some grew out of it. Good video.
Bret Michaels has the best weave
But then why does he wear the headband
Because it's a wig
No such thing as a “best weave” they’re all ridiculous

Big hair, big guitars, big music. The 80s was an amazing time and I'm glad that I was there. I was a bit young (I went from 6-16 in that decade) but I remember it so fondly. Over the years I've been able to meet a few of them - Nikki Sixx, Kip Winger, Rudy Sarzo, Slash. It was after these times but still great nonetheless.
I loved that Motley Crüe album, Shout at the Devil. Whole album was güüd.🖤🤘😖🤘
I’m glad these girls have grown up to have great lives. Drugs are no joke, and kill a lot of people. Welcome home, ladies.🎉
👍 👏👏👏👏
🙏🙏👍🥺😊
wow one other show/doc that i did not know that my face was in yes i was in every rose video they got my face at one of the shows they did years a go.
During the time that this video is about, I was new to the US Navy and was attending all of my sonartech schools in San Diego. Since I had almost a year and a half of schooling and I had been into Metal/Hard Rock my entire life...I would go to the strip every weekend. That was as long as I didn't have duty of course. I had gone home on leave prior to my schools beginning and drove my car back to SD. I had the best time of my life during those months, either in SD or in LA. Being almost 6'6" tall and a healthy 220lbs., I did well with the chicks. I had short hair of course but, I had a lust for life and I really dug hot chicks. Seeing all of the bands at their beginnings was great too. I just think I was an oddity to all the people that were on the strip. No long hair, no tattoos, didn't do drugs and drinking minimally. I did go out with Taija Ray, some girls that worked at Pacers and AJ's in San Diego. Great times, great bands and Uber Hot women...doesn't get better than that.
You're only young and pretty for so long, be careful with it.
I bought her audiobook with her narration. I shouldn’t have, but she shouldn’t have either. I think I might have enjoyed it more if I had just read it.
I also bought it. I read it in one day. Easy read. It has some interesting moments. If you're into that scene and time, you will enjoy it.
I believe she released it when "Ex-Wives of Rock" was happening, which was fairly popular and it sold well.
I miss them days. These little farts will never understand what s great era we had. My lord i cry. Because of the ones we lost.
Jani Lane unfortunately didn’t make it, he ended up drinking himself to death in 2011.
I think Nikki Sixx still would have overdosed on heroin and been pronounced dead whether he dated Dee Holland or not.
What happened to Jani is why he drank himself to death . It was so tragic
And Frank...uh, "Nikki"....has since been proven a fake. Sad.

The Sunset Strip in the 80's? There was nothing like it! I spent many a weekend up there having the time of my life. I was in it for the good time & great music, not the drugs. There were a ton of bands that never "made it", who were very talented. I met a lot of great people & partied with the best of them, both famous & not so famous.
Was definitely a different time....
Vixster , u must still be sore 😅😊
Good times, good times, good times.❤❤❤
Such a great time to grow up!
Or NOT grow up!!😅
Nothing like the Dokken party’s in Hermosa beach when Bobby Blotzer lived next door
So you were around the scene back then? I read “Sunset Strip Diaries” by Amy Asbury. Did you happen to know her?
Nottoday , I love the song and video " dream warriors " from dokken , any knowledge of the making of it ? H.beach back then must have been great , Heather Locklear lookalikes everywhere , my personal dream girl 😊
What we choose to do in our youth lol
Was absolutely the Best Time Of My Life 🎉 55 now, but Never Have Regrets!! Your past helped make you the strong woman you are today 😉 💋 Sunset Strip 💋 ♾
Rainbow bar and grill would close and some people stayed and the lines and dom perion came out in full force
Good times .
YES!!!! Mario would let some of us stay & the fun continued.....God Bless the Rainbow! (RIP Mario and Mikeal)
Dom Perignon.😅😂🎉
I prefer the '53 it's a superior vintage.
Beauty fades!...Reputation doesn't!
Great documentary. I was a guitarist who lived this through the 80's and although mostly harmless fun the sex and drugs were crazy and I'm happy to have survived. Damn it was fun though!
I was truly really sad when music went from a party to self-loathing, no talent angry for no reason, people. At least our generation had fun.
Amen!!!
We sure did, plus the boys were gorgeous!
Yes..the 90s was pure Downer Rock.
well, it's not difficult to amuse brainless people...
@roqueeeeeeeee so says a convicted felon 😆 I bet it took a double-digit IQ to get the felony conviction 😆 🤣
People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Where did you go to college beer pourer? Exactly. Tell the good people why you're on probation because you're a loser. 🤡
I'm 58 and skated past this phase in music luckily, it's just cheesy in hindsight, I was waiting for them to delve into pretty tied up by GNR which is their only song that still rocks, the rest is overplayed garbage, luckily I discovered soul asylum, social distortion h u s k e r d u Goo Goo Dolls and all the good timeless power punk that still rocks. GNR also birthed Izzy stradlin and the juju hounds, he came to a social distortion show in 87 in Minneapolis and the album is perfection, turns me on to pressure drop which has 50 plus different versions here on CZcams.
Best decade ever. 80s
Nothin' But Good Times! 🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥
Great vid.,,, 😎
Jani Lane looked like his eyes were upside down😅
Good music from the 1980s those guys know how play Good musicians from they bands
Some people mentioned Coke but I prefer Pepsi 😜
I was too young to really enjoy 80's
We all forget that everything has its price....partying can be fun but everything gets dull at a certain point if one does it long enough.
Life can sure be a bore without your muses to make those hit songs.....cheers.
Athena at 22:10 is Tommy Lee’s sister.
Yeah strong resemblance for sure. She wears the lipstick better though
just great
That was pretty good !
And now almost 20 more years have gone by, and there's still never been anything even close to that happen in the music industry. Motley and Leppard are still out on the road, just recently rapping up a huge tour. Glam was killed by grunge, period.
Yep
The music was shite, mate. It changed absolutely nothing.
Vacuous nonsense.
@@satansalley6526 Your babblings are what make no sense? Never said I liked them or that it's the best music. Fact is, there's bands still filling venues to see them. Hate all you want. Still doesn't change the facts.
@andrewbecker3700 truth! Plus there's more dead grunge guys....killed by their own hand.
@andrewbecker3700 - Absolutely! IMO grunge was a rehash of punk but they were too effed up to have the energy & excitement of punk, much was bland, overrated IMO. Don’t particularly care for DL, but kudos as they did some fab songs, still going strong. Bonus: Joe Elliot is a massive Bowie fan & put together many tributes, bless! I worked in nightclubs was in music industry in various capacities also worked w/ the bands, so I got to see 1st NY appearances in the underground scene which was fun. From the mid-70s-80s the NY music scene was like no other time; bursting w/ creativity & people in all forms of the arts (still underground) hung out together in such fun bars, clubs. The stories… coming soon🙏🏼🤞! Cheers! Jet 🧡🎸🎶⚡️🦋🏍

Oh I'm sorry , Don't say "Every Rose Has its Thorn "(1988) influenced other bands like Dokken's "Alone Again" (1984) Just sayin!
All about the money running out on few of these
Every rose is not an amazing anything. It was and to this day, still is the biggest rock roll joke! LOL😂
Someone needed to do better research Motley released Too fast for love before Quiet Riot did Metal Health.
.....but Metal health was the first monster commercial success for the genre. Those songs were everywhere, including at the top of the charts. That album created the furor that metal was going to be a commercial force. Was a hugely successful album.
I was a part of this beginning in the 80s and then I wasn’t a part of some of it bcz I was younger but some of these girls were friends of mine like Athena Lanell Valkyrie Monique Bambi Barbie Lucinda Charmaine.
The 80’s were the best time. The best music, best time ever it was lawless compared to today. You actually could disappear. No cell phones, no internet but we had smart and common sense and we also had Motley Crue, Metallica, Suicidal Tendencies, Joy Division and so many more to guide us. I’ll never forgive you Seattle. Yes it was excess, stupid, debauchery and dangerous but it was fun, it was a lot better than what everyone got when they decided to play follow the leader and trade with Seattle. Depression, flannel shirts, coffee and worst of all Pearl Jam. Ugh. My heart breaks again remembering what happened. All it took was teen spirit and everyone jumped on the woe is me train or they all turned into wannabe gangsters and rappers. There was our choices. For a little while we could choose from Seattle and NWA. I love NWA by the way. I love Alice In Chains. But the weenies that turned their backs on our bands that were rock gods to them just a week before, I hope they trip next time they are eating ice cream and they don’t have any money to buy more.
lol……..I lived through both…..and yes the glam rock time was a lot of fun, but all things change……I’m from Seattle, and I also spent a lot of time on the strip…..both were awesome……..and as a person from Seattle…..we do not apologize…….both eras were amazing…….as is Pearl Jam…..
@@mdp4022 I’m not even going to start. Pearl Jam is gloomy Seattle rain that somehow turned into a band that rained on the world for years. It was awful. SEE THIS IS WHY I WASN’T EVEN GOING TO START!!!! Jeremy spoke in class and made everyone depressed for the next 20 years! They made Depeche Mode look like a party band! One listen to them and automatically depression ran through your family even if it didn’t before. Has there ever been a more depressing band? I mean Morrissey and The Smiths could be pretty depressing but at least they had a sense of humor and some wit about it. It’s like if you mixed the most popular colors from the 70’s, indigestion, instruments from musicians that never made it and then threw in a dash of flannel and how it feels to be laid off and BAM, you have Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam. Sorry. I tried to not start but it just comes out. Like Jeremy, or even flows out like vomit, they should’ve been called Hurl Jam. Sorry I’m done. Goodbye. No offense. Sorry.
Hurl Jam 😂. So accurate. Don't stop....preach on, brotha!
Sorry, I wouldn't say Joy Division good fun heavy metal- they were depressing prog. So depressing the lead singer committed suicide.
@@tamihewitt6562 I agree but to me Pearl Jam was so depressing they made joy division seem like a pop band. The only good thing about the singer killing himself is he would never have to accidentally hear Pearl jam on the radio ever again #restinpeace
Without women, we are nothing.
great video! I knew the 80's were crazy but it was a lot crazier than I thought. We're all lucky to have lived through it! It was a great time to be alive! I wish I had half the fun these days as I had then!!
If I could take that back the four years I would and make better choices
I really wish Lita would have stayed out of the tattoo shop. They look trashy, and she's so hot.
Agree, they look totally trashy.
If a chick smoked cigarettes then she “will” do what you want her to do! Even Bobby Brown and Tawney smoked. I was in my Navy schools in the mid-80’s in San Diego and would drive up to hit the strip on weekends as often as possible. It seemed that every chick was smoking and at times looked like a horizontal chimney outside the door of the clubs…but, they were the best times for a 22 year old kid. 😮
Wow! It must've been such an amazing time. I wish I was there... did you get to see anyone famous or met someone who would eventually "make it"? Thanks!
All this has been happening since 20s 30s 40s 50s onwards!!! Nothing new for christ sake! Jazz swinging rock n roll boogie, up to disco metal, all represented SEX n more SEX n a whole lot MORE SEX. Enjoy...
The women put up with it whats that say about them
The Best era of music...but yeah, glad I wasn't old enough to party with the guys because they treated females like utter shite. I'd just rather listen to their music and look at them.

Yeah, I agree with Bobbi Brown - everybody’s gotta calm down about this! Sex sells.
Yeah the 80s were wild .. decadent and outlandish … I survived them and I’m glad all these Ladies have too and are such successes now … going to get Bobbi’s book it sounds interesting and yes I’ll admit had a MAJOR crush on her !! … still do actually Bobbi if you want to go for a coffee in a quiet Southern Ontario Canada city … ??

Betsy!!
Theres more danger, sleaze, and decadence in all those 80s metal bands than all the commercial pop and rap artists over the past 20 years combined
Just less killing each other…they only killed themselves…
True! 😂
ya maybe 80s music was and is better better than pop and Rap since
Hair bands and Metal bands never shot each other to death
