Eureka is the principal city and county seat of Humboldt County in the Redwood Empire region of California. The city is located on U.S. Route 101 on the shores of Humboldt Bay, 270 miles north of San Francisco and 100 miles south of the Oregon border. At the 2010 census, the population of the city was 27,191, and the population of Greater Eureka was 45,034.

The headquarters of both the Six Rivers National Forest and the North Coast Redwoods District of the California State Parks System are in Eureka. An array of stores, art galleries, and museums can be found in the town, as well as several popular attractions such as Fort Humboldt State Historic Park. Yes!!!! Sequoia park is seriously so magical. Unlike anything I’ve ever been to. I lived in eureka years ago (now live in SoCal) when I was a child and have always felt a connection to it. I revisited just last year and it’s even more gorgeous than I remembered.
There’s something incredibly special about that park and is worth the trip alone. I tell all of my friends to check it out.

We live in the far East Bay Area and Eureka is always a part of out RV experience...We leave home, travel up I-5 to Portland to visit daughter...From there we head to the Oregon Coast and Tillamook/Garibaldi to visit son....From that point we head all the way down Hwy 101 along the coast to the Oregon/Calif border and on into Crescent City to visit father in law....From Crescent city we take short ride into Eureka and almost always spend a nite or two in the area dry camping in the RV at Blue Lakes Casino or just down the road in Loletta at Bear River Casino....We often visit Lost Coast Brewery to eat and pick up some Great White beer (My favorite) while there...The Nooner cafe is ok, but not one of our favorites ....Two places to eat not mentioned here are the old SAMOA COOKHOUSE which is an old all you can eat logging camp thats been there over 100yrs..It all you can eat but only for what they are serving that day....If your into seafood, highly recommend the SEA GRILL as we have never had a meal we didnt love there....

theres a statistical 200% chance to be a victim of crime in eureka had to leave after getting car windows smashed twice and tires stolen. the only thing that was stolen inside the car because I was expecting them to break in was a handful of sea shells. my car has been vandalized many times by homeless, its been keyed, smashed with metal pipes and baseball bats and its body damage is extensive now my car looks like it has hail damage but its all homeless people. But in dry yrs it can get into the low 80s but its great due to low humidity. Its not like the South or even East. (Btw, Inland temps dont really matter or affect the coast, so it can be roasting in Redding and cool in Humboldt.)
