    Shane, these are 5 tremendous points. Thank you for sharing.
    I am not great on ‘prettyfying’ apps, so having it working, intuitive and easy to extend is my aim.
    Don’t stop your good work mate.

    Excellent tips. I have this conversation with my users all the time... "yes, the app looks ugly right now, but once we're done testing and have it working properly, I'll go back and make it pretty"

    Oh I so understand your pain points: function always over form, reserved words, spaces, dataverse!! :)

    As always great video Shane. We're working on getting a premium license for dataverse. As you can imagine, it is pretty expensive for a large company like American Airlines.

    Cheers for sharing - great tips 👍 1 is very topical for me at the minute for an ongoing build. It's sitting at 23 datasources and 15 screens and I'm noticing it's starting to get a little slower opening in edit... 'shouldn't' get much bigger though, so I'm going to persevere... for now 😅

    Amazing vids, thank you Shane!! Question about making multiple smaller apps vs ONE GIANT one: What if you're looking to minimize Licensing costs? A one app as a Suite (along the lines of Project Operations in D365) would be beneficial (while potentially a bit lazy). Any suggestions for figuring out the MS Licensing Arcana?

    • @ShanesCows
      @ShanesCows  Před 2 lety +2

      Hey Jan - Licensing does sometimes lead to making decisions we don't like. I dont have any silver bullets here for you. Kind of a just have to compare the options and make the best decision for you.

    Adopt KISS as a first principle. Then see how you can simplify things as you go. Take a final pass through the project to remove unnecessary code and clutter.

    Shane, thank you so much for those great tips. Your videos are a fun way to learn Power Apps. I hear so many times that Excel is te worse data base source. It breaks my heart. I am a novice so I know you guys are right. I know nothing about other data sources like Dataverse or SQL. Excel allows me to do dynamic calculations of dates and other thing which I dont know I can or cannot do in other data sources. I beleive Sharepoint is not as dynamic as Excel. Why or What are the reasons Excel is the ugly duck as data source? Thanks again.

    Legend!!! What would you think of having 2 or more forms on the same screen, for instance, form1 for the text columns and form2 for date columns, then in form1.OnSuccess we write submitform(form2)... Don't be mad at me I haven't done it 😁😁 it came to my mind watching this video... Keep it up buddy

    Thanks for the tips! I've reached the point where I find myself preferring patch vs forms. One of the conveniences of forms is that is becomes scrollable when you add more fields. In those situations where there are a lot of controls/data cards, would you use the scrollable screen control, containers, or use multiple screens?

    • @ShanesCows
      @ShanesCows  Před 2 lety +1

      I definitely don't build giant flows but their size doesn't usually cause challenges. Usually with flows it is too many API calls. 😑

    thanks for your valuable videos . I just want to share my experience, one time i have used Sharepoint as a data source , and then I exported the data which came from powerapps to CSV , but unfortunately the data looked like HTML , then I made new sharepoint list which coming from excel , and somehow it worked ,so somehow the excel is just good . Sorry for the bad coherence :( .

    I get the dont build too big an app, I thought that might be the case, but have you noticed that with Native apps, MS are recommending bundling apps together ? Considering its just a wrapper over the same web code, sounds like advice to take with a pinch of salt 🙂

    • @ShanesCows
      @ShanesCows  Před 2 lety

      I think since they are bundled but separate it would be okay. But I haven't dug into the wrapper stuff at all... yet. :)

    I work with a group of people who only see what is put in front of them.I've had projects dismissed immediately because a border was the wrong colour. If they have no imagination, it is impossible to given them a functional but visually incomplete app because they are stupid and don't appreciate the work that goes on in the background to deliver the functionality that the app needs. The moral: Know your audience.

    Re dataverse - for a large org (gov agency) - the hundreds who will use the form: will they need dataverse license/access?

    • @ShanesCows
      @ShanesCows  Před rokem +1

      Yes. If DataVerse is the datasource it makes the app premium. Then every user of the app will need a premium license.

    Hey Shane, love the content. I'm wondering if you have any features you can think of that may help me. I'm currently developing a Center of Excellence for my company (we focus mostly on ERP migrations for smaller municipalities), including apps for our RAID log, an app that collects meeting minutes and automatically saves and mails out a formatted word document with those notes, and a document quick-search using a custom connector to SharePoint. At this point, I'm sort of running out of ideas, but I'm in no way an expert. I'm hoping you have some advanced features ideas that may help me add some more useful features to our CoE.

    Hi Shane when we need multiple screen for a app, do you still say using form is not recommended ? I have about 10 tables for my app and about 20 columns in each list. If i do not use forms , i need to drag and set multiple controls also displaying data back from SharePoint is easier on forms. Can you advise of there a better way to control with patch in such scenarios ?

  • @djpowerage

    Shane, do you think it is better to have 1 environment for 1 app, especially if that app has 10 tables, or throw all tables to all apps in the one environment?
