    The Bahamas didn't even have a TV station (ZNS) until 1977, but of course they'd been watching Miami TV since 1949, when WTVJ in Miami started up.

      Still, conditions/antenna had to be good. Of course it also depended on where in the Bahamas you were.

      miami was almost 200 miles from the bahamas so they could only get miami when the weather was right mainly only for tv-dx we know how long tv-dx conditions last for. cable is the only way in the bahamas to get miami and anything else

      not all of the Bahamas. some islands are less than 50MI from MIA or West Palm, and, farther away from Nassau than that. considering its an archipelago, i doubt they have much in the way of decent cable providers. i imagine Dish Network probably does good business there.

      @@mulletboater The Bahamas does have cable providers such as Rev that were around at least since the 1990s; because of their internet and phone service offerings, they seem to compete with telecom company BTC even more than ever, much in the way of Comcast and AT&T. People, from what I remember seeing, have had satellite dishes there over the years, but I could never confirm who serviced them.

    ZNS was a secondary ABC affiliate for the Bahamas from the mid-1970s through the late 1990s. That station stopped airing network programs once cable arrived in the Bahamas.

      Can you tell me the actual “RF” channel that ZNS TV uses for digital? I would think 13 (210 thru 216 MHz), but I am not sure.

    one reason ZNS might be such a "rare catch"; they start at one and most likely knock off before 2am. If its not on half the time, its literally %50 rarer.

    • @christopherdunne7848

      ZNS Television is accessible online now via znsbahamas dot com. I believe that their OTA carrier (now digital RF ch 13 I believe---correct me please if I am wrong) runs 24 hours, but overnight programming is usually obituaries with photo slides that repeat, while AM 1540/FM 104.5 Nassau audio runs on it.

    • @christopherdunne7848
      @christopherdunne7848 Před 3 lety +2

      Addendum: I understand that ZNS 13’s antenna array was directed away from the USA. As digital, I assume it still is. Despite being less than 200 air miles from my home, I attest that it was *never* an easy catch, ever. I wanna say that from home I saw it three times (1987, 1992, 2000).

  • @Justin-Hill-1987

    This station informed like CNN, educated like PBS and entertained like NBC/CBS/ABC/FOX back then. That's like the television version of a Swiss Army knife!

    • @christopherdunne7848
      @christopherdunne7848 Před 6 lety +8

      If you mean ZNS, I suppose that it was catering to those who didn't have cable or satellite. I am not sure what channels outside of ZNS were accessible in Nassau in 1992. Fast forward to today....ZNS is more like public television, and I assume it is because the entertainment shows are now easily accessible on cable/satellite there. I was there in 2003, and a Bahamas "general entertainment" channel was not needed.

      @@christopherdunne7848 Yes, ZNS was the one I was referring to. Times change, and certain stations drift to new formats when people switch to other means to get their entertainment fix, whether it be cable, satellite, or streaming device.
