I was involved in a short lived Ted Lucas restoration project over 20 years ago. I can’t tell you how many months I spent listening to this music and scanning and restoring photographs. I never saw this. Thanks for the upload.
@@peterlucas2900 Hey man I'm a Big Spike Drivers fan, my old man had a yellow 45 that he played all the time. When all the catalog was put on CZcams I was stoked. Then I got to wondering, how the hell are they not bigger than acts like The Yardbirds or even Count Five? Spike Drivers were a better band. I found an article where one of them blames Ted's prejudice towards Atlantic Record's founder. A friend of mine, Peter, his mentor was there at this recording session where Ted apparently said "I ain't working for a damn Turk." I haven't had a chance to verify this with Peter, he probably doesn't even know. So I figure your an even better source, because the fact that Spike Drivers weren't bigger than they were is a mystery to me. Is that a true story?
Ted was inspired by Peter Walker as was I Peter went on to play sarod, I went on with sitar now surbahar, so long ago, the chessmate, lovely old Ann Arbor. Fifty five years on,
p.s. Never heard of the Tom Shannon Show either until now! Where have I been all my life?! I have made it my business to know about all things musical from high school age onward. How could I have missed Ted Lucas & Tom Shannon both? It's like what the Tootsie Pop Wise Old Owl once said, "A one, a two, a three, the world may never know."
Wow! Thank you so much for the upload. For years I've tried to find some video footage of Ted Lucas to no avail. This is incredible, absolutely beautiful. Do you have or know of any more footage that exists?
Mike, we just had about 10-12 videos that Ted left us with digitized last year including more of Ted with Tom Shannon, a full hour of him on a show called Free Play with Paul Winter and about 6 appearances of The Spike Drivers on Swinging Time (Unfortunately they play the same 2 songs on all)...and also an excerpt of a WABX tv show called Live From earth that has John Sinclair in the audience. We're currently looking at different ways to present the videos.
Teddy was my first guitar teacher, circa 1962, at Fava Music Studio in Detroit. He was great teacher, very patient!

In the sixties I met Ted when I was 15. I used to stop by his apartment in the Cass Corridor. He would teach me picking licks.
