Home to the Tūhourangi-Ngāti Wāhiao people, residents have been welcoming and sharing their enviable way of life for over 100 years. Visit us and enjoy a guided tour with a local, be enchanted by a Māori concert performance, taste delicious food cooked by Mother Nature and get close to the best of Rotorua’s geothermal treasures.
Whakarewarewa is just minutes away from central Rotorua, nestled in a geothermal valley abundant with bubbling mud, hot pools and geysers. Open 8.30am - 5.00pm daily.

I feel very proud to be from here. Both of my parents have homesteads in the village.

Corrections: Makereti Papakura 10:02 - Margaret Pattison Thom, who was later widely known as Makereti (or Maggie) Papakura, was born at Matata, in the Bay of Plenty, on 20 October 1873 not 1931.Kingswood Smith 11:07 is actually Sir Charles Kingsford Smith, aviator and co-founder of QANTAS and party visiting Whakarewarewa on 21 September 1928, with Guide Bella.

      Yes....
They really have no idea of our history... the corps that constituted themselves and incorporated our home as a model pa... just about everyone thats come over that bridge has been miseducated in some form or style.. in these ages they relay everything about one generation when back then it was the history, the traditions, evolving of our people as collectives it was just so much more then it is today

I hope you visit your website because this is 7 years old I'm Northland and it's 2023 after the election, I'm a very White People of the land and I wish to confess that I had no interest in the Maori Language till this government took it off us - Now your peoples Language Means something to me ... I have no Social media contacts to help with but please know that there's an old long haired white guy in Northland that's thinking of you right now ... Kiwis are in the shit ...
