- It was my going away party -- a week before deploying to Vietnam.
A lot of the people in this film are gone -- but, not forgotten.

Very pleasant, warm and cherished memories. I recall these gatherings of conviviality and happiness. There's a young lady reminiscent of my young bride of less than one year before I left for Vietnam with the Marines. Bless her. I came back a changed man, but fulfilled my marriage vows. She passed on due to a stroke but our sole child, a son has flourished into a fine Christian man. I've been fortunate to this point to have lived a full life. For this I give love and full credit to God.
The song and video touched my heart..My husband, Lou Puckett, deployed to Vietnam in 1970..He served with the 9th infantry division (mech) as a combat medic..Awarded the Purple Heart in Country..Passed away in 2012..It doesn’t hurt any less, 11 years later. RIP Lou Puckett 06/29/1948-11/19/2012.♥️
If I could save time in a bottle...look back and we recall the people, the times we felt God's goodness, love and beauty in the songs, joy, warmth, love, smells and just moments. Make every moment, every day and every person become a wonderful memory in the future. Thank You Lord above.
Wow, Such memories! Thanks!
You're so lucky to have this memory of friends and loved ones. Most folk will just have b&w stills. I hope it brings you much pleasure 👍😃.
Still makes me cry at 66 ❤️🙏🏻😢😢
This is one of the best videos on utube. It is bitter sweet for sure. I have watched this many times and now appreciate the ending of where people are.
It's definitely one of the best videos ever. I find myself watching it every few weeks . It really tugs at the heart. I was 13 when this was made, but my husband was of this generation.
@@bonniem3754 i watch it every few weeks also. I was also 12 or 13 at that time. I loved those times so much!
@@theteal123 It makes me want MORE! I’d really like to know more about what happened to everyone in the video….both still with us and not. Some passed away so young.
It makes me want more too! I watch it over and over again thinking that maybe I missed something.
I saw the original. It was wonderful and so is this. Roy Clark and this song are minor miracles. Thank you so much for this. I was just looking across the room at the pictures of my parents on the ledge -- gone since 2007 -- and suddenly missed them terribly in my heart -- right before this came up.
We cannot recall even 1% of what happened in our lives, what we saw and heard, what we said and what people said to us -- even most of the most important things are incomplete recollections. We chase our own past with butterfly nets, desperate to remember and recapture the stream but never able to do it. It is always out of reach.
You were able to preserve a little bit here. Congratulations. 1/12/23.
Thank you for this video and song. It makes me think that this generation you captured in this marvelous video, was the last to be raised by a stay at home mom...after Viet Nam the push to have moms work was as intense as those who worked during WWII war effort...(Aaron Russo talked about it as intentional to break up families that led to children who developed manipulation or sarcasm we see in youth today, some of them of course not all but some ).
The gentle polite interchange of genuine joy that we see in this video shows a surety of who the youth were in that era...a secure people who had a pace of life that had respect and not urgency.... (not realizing that the Viet Nam experience was going to shake us all up). I am a bit younger but your smiles in this video remind me of when people were more secure than the youth are now these days...
I thank you.
Thank you 😊l 💖😘💓
Every night l listen to 🎵
What a great tune. But oh so sad isn't it?
presented beautifully this is is so close to the MOST beautiful of all I shed tears at the song, sound of this, thank you forever Roy Clark ever and ever.
So very true 👍
And equally very painful to remember!
I enjoyed this video. Also it was great that you could follow up on your friends. I just turned 68 and have lost friends over the years. With tears in my eyes I often wonder when my time will come.
Be positive---you are still young. Enjoy life to the max!
make sure you believe in the true God before you meet Him tomorrow.Wish you the best
@@bakerabu4217 Should I meet god tomorrow, I'll see you then.
Superb! Both happy and sad. A true capture of a moment in time. It maybe only really known to those that were there, but it reflects many of our own life experiences?
This was incredibly sad. Made me think of all those I’ve lost.
for some this is realy a true story !
Wow, thank you for sharing. Brings tears to my eyes.so much warmth and affection coming through
Beautiful
I am so glad you got back. And how things turned out is great. But every time I watch this I just think--people from the block--cousins--highs school pals. ?
Thank you again. Very well done.
Gracias por compartir tus recuerdos. Muy entrañable.
Loved ♥️🇺🇸♥️
I’d love to know more about the person who made the video, and his friends. How old were the kids in the video? How did some pass away?
@@richardreece6712 You’re probably right, or he would’ve responded by now.
Maravilha.
I like to know where this place filmed Was recorded,it reminds me so much,of a place in South America, called uraguay,I lived there for many years , but most the people I know are long gone ,this video really helps me to be emotionally positive,as I look at the young ones ,and smiles on their faces ,and that sense of security in the future, maybe I am wrong,I believe we young were allowed to dream then,,unlike the youth of today.
When You Are Old
BY WILLIAM BUTLER YEATS
When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;
How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;
And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

a Chinese artist translated this Poem into a Chinese song, each time, it is just as emotional.
