  • I generally try to approach Music Directing with a pretty minimal mindset. Staying out of the way unless I'm needed. For these songs there wasn't much flow time, so not a lot of direction was required. BUT, the style of MD is going to be different from church to church, so I'm not assuming my style is the only way to do it. I'm always trying to learn and get better at running tracks/Music Directing. If you're an MD and have any tips/advice, I'm all ears! Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for showing this MD-ing video! Appreciate it. May I ask what kind of click you guys using? Or any tips? TIA! Godbless bro

      Of course! Most of the time we use the Multitracks click, and sometimes the native Ableton click. My biggest tip is to just build your sets in Ableton so that they are slave to you and where you want to go, not the other way around. Set up shortcuts and make it easy on yourself or your MD/tracks person to quickly jump around when needed!

    Do you play an instrument while MDing?

    • @nathanbittner7629
      @nathanbittner7629  Před 3 lety +9

      I usually play bass when MDing! But since this was a bigger event, we wanted to try having someone off stage who was exclusively running tracks/MDing
      Edit: Uploading a video of me playing bass/MDing soon, so look for that!

    What is that sensor thats inline you're using to mute and unmute the mic?

    • @nathanbittner7629
      @nathanbittner7629  Před 2 lety +1

      It's a proximity gate called Optogate PB-05! It senses when you get close to the mic and unmutes.

    Absolutely awesome. Are y’all triggering video and lighting via ableton

    • @nathanbittner7629
      @nathanbittner7629  Před 2 lety

      Thanks so much Braden! Sometimes we use Ableton to trigger lyric videos that need to play in sync with the band, but most of the time all video, lyrics, and lighting are run by volunteers!

    Question: what singers are listening? Just the click?

    • @nathanbittner7629
      @nathanbittner7629  Před 2 lety

      Each team member has control over their own in ear mix so they can choose! But most have the MD in their ears so that they can hear any changes being made on the fly.

    What is that? the thing between the cable and the mic. never seen MD-ing done this way.

      @nathanbittner7629  Před rokem

      Hey Lucas, that’s proximity gate called Optogate PB-05. Basically it senses when you get close to the mic and un-mutes the mic. We use it so the drums don’t bleed into the band’s in-ears.

      Perhaps, but you can also argue that they’re using all available resources to have an atmosphere of worship. There was nothing alarming about this service I feel.

    • @nathanbittner7629
      @nathanbittner7629  Před 2 lety +7

      Yeah, definitely a hard thing to balance. Depending on your background, lots of things can be considered "showy". Personally, I don't feel like we ever take it too far, but nevertheless we could do "less" production and still have a great service. For me it comes down to the question "are we all, as a team, on the same page for why we're doing this?" If the answer is to genuinely give God all the glory through our talents and means, then we're in a good place. Just my personal opinion!

      It may seem like that but this video shows how communication is expressed through the worship. With all the instruments and speakers, it may be difficult to express which portion of the song to go to next.

    Is this live? Someone actually sits in the back with a computer, talks and directs the band through tracks and a laptop?? Booooyy that’s heavy, IA is taking the place of the Holy Spirit in western church culture. Jesus help us, break this spirit of performance and perfection we’ve placed on a podium above freedom in your presence.

    • @TheMrfuzzyface
      @TheMrfuzzyface Před 2 lety

      This actually gives more freedom by having someone to direct the whole band. It gives freedom to be spontaneous.

      I think this is huge job.to even be able to do all this is by the lead of the Holy Spirit.to be tuned and synch and lead all this stuff is huge without the leading of the Holy Spirit you can't do that

      By faith Abel offered to God more excellent sacrifice than Cain. - Hebrews 11:4. There’s nothing ungodly or less spiritual about being excellent. God is pleased with the time, work, preparation and excellence.

      I myself serves as worship leader and MD. It is confusing. Like where does one draw the line with technology and actually just being musically together as a band instead of a computer deciding whats happening when. I understand your perfection concern. Some people can really take it way too far when it is all about Jesus. So what if someone made a chord error. Or missed a word. But yea. A lot to ponder on and still learn

    • @TheOpinionGuyy

      In the bible, they used to worship God without instrument. Then instrument came in and we use it to worship God. Is that make it wrong? Am I worshipping God in a sin then?
      Directing a band is not a sin, it is for the band to play in attempt not to make a mistake. this is also help congregation to worship God and not get distracted if someone messed up.
      If you ever been in a worship team, you'll understand. If not, just focus on God instead. It is not the band's fault you're focus on someone hard work than Jesus.
