- I started at the Cobb Estate and took the Sam Merrill trail to the Castle Canyon trail to the Idlehour trail, to the Mt Wilson toll road, to the Altadena Crest trail to make it a loop. I had lunch at the beautiful Idlehour trail camp where I filled up on water from the creek. There were lots of wildflowers, birds, newts, and squirrels. The totals for the day were about 20 miles and 5,300 feet of climbing. The date of this hike was April 15th, 2024.
Very beautiful view, thank you for the video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful area... so many different cool spring flowers. You made it out alive without any bear encounters. Great video. We need to get a backpacking trip with the gang soon. Thank you for sharing. Take care David F. 🇺🇲
Thanks Jason. I was hoping to see a bear, but I did find a newt instead 😂 Agreed and hope to see you out on the trail soon.
Crazy how you went from snow one week, to Springtime Greenery and running waterfalls the next. Lol. Great video! Love how you actually showed where the turn offs are... for safety.
Thanks Cooter! Yeah, the snow melting is making for some nice flowing creeks and waterfalls.
Hi David, what a beautiful hike!
We spent overnight at Idlehour just this last Saturday, 4/20, out and back from the Pinecrest gate in Eaton Canyon. Did not get that cold, overnight:))
Nice! Idlehour trail camp is a magical place for sure.
That’s a great loop! I wish I could have done it with you.. so lush and some wildlife action too.
I find it sad to look at Idle Hour camp without the group in the frame..😢
We should plan for another one!
Yeah, it was really nice, but a lot more fun with the group. We'll have to do this one again when everyone can make it.
Thanks David, beautiful trail. How long did it take you?
It took me about 10 hours to cover the 20 miles and 5,300 feet of climbing. I've done this loop before where I spent the night at Idlehour trail camp which makes it a lot easier.
Put your phone on airplane mode, saves the battery.
Yeah I usually do that but this time I didn't since I had cell reception in most places. I will bring my power bank next time.
Cool video David
Thanks Dick. This would make for a long and fun trail run but it is rocky in quite a few places and has water crossings.
