Subarugears 5 speed plus EJ25 in VW Kombi bus

- 4.44:1 reversed Subarugears ring and pinion, Subaru turbo close ratio gearset, EJ25 naturally aspirated motor, 205/50/17 wheels and tyres. This is surely the perfect combination. I don't know what VW Kombi speedometers go to, but this one is off the clock!

very nice and its obvious to see he is very excited but that pass as 0:55 put more than him self in danger going 3 wide on a 2 lane road.

Yeah.. NEED this 5speed! You guys know what's up. Really what i intended to do with the LOUD LUGGAGE BUS but a pro street swing axle will retro fitted to a EJ22 for now will do just fine.

That thing rips. He would have had to replace most of the running gear to be able to carry that kind of speed. Suspension, steering components, bushings, brakes ect...

Any chance you have a video or can you do a shopping list and install into a beetle? I have a ej25D in my 72 now with a stock gearbox and i'm thinking of putting a subigears in. What is a good donor transmission?
Yes, all that is covered on the website www.subarugears.com ...it's not subigears, maybe that's why you haven't seen it

I've seen adapters to put the 5 speed but how do you figure out the axles? does someone sell them for the swap?

Hi guys, got the Subarugears transmission on the 76 Westfalia. Just wondering what did you do on the steering components to have it so stable? I really want to improve this aspect for family safety!
We just do the transmissions.

I built one of these similar. Mine is a 72 type 2 with EJ25 and a Garrett turbo, pushes 450. Trans can be programmed from my laptop in my passenger seat, as can the governor so I don’t die. No clue what speed it tops at, I’m too scared to try lol
5MT doesn't have a governor and can't be programmed with a laptop

subarugears I have 6 gears, automatic. I did say mine is similar, not exactly alike
@@TheJordanAntibellum Subaru don't make a 6 speed automatic and it's not reversed with the engine in the rear so I'd say it's not even similar :-) But sounds cool - put some videos up

What trans are you using?
is it possible to still use the original gearbox with the non turbo subaru engine?

Check your bowden tube on clutch linkage.. it might be why your car shakes on first gear when launching....

Awesome performance! It's a shame that Volkswagen never looked to Subaru for its engines. I understand they're generally more reliable than Volkswagen engines.

Yohan Cottin-Le Monnier It's possible. Or it wasn't possible, at the time, to convert to water-cooling, or perhaps VW wasn't interested, in going water-cooled.
T3 Transporter/Vanagon were fitted with watercooled 4cyl boxer engines, even a reasonably powerful 2.1L (if i remember right).
Before that, i suppose VW had no reason (economically speaking) to upgrade the power to more than what was needed to move their economical/non sporty cars.
It was at least 35 years ago and other cars in europe were not that more powerful, especially trucks !
