DisneyXD's Ducktales: Rebooting Huey Duck

  • Huey, Dewey and Louie have never really had their own personalities, but it's about time that changed. Can the new DuckTales Reboot give Scrooge's nephews more depth without sacrificing what made them popular to begin with?

    And Louie's sharper than the sharpies.

      thevine2010 Which explains why the new art style of this series is a mix of Gravity Falls Charicter proportions, Original Outfits along with alot inspired by the Uncle Schrooge comics like Donald' Black Outfit and Schrooge's Red Jacket both of which I like (Seriously Donald's Black Sailor Uniform better be DLC in KH3!) and a color palette based on both the comics and the original cartoon. It makes sense that they're more individualized and unique now as one of the first things they said about the show is the Triplets are older than they were in the original show instead 8 to 10 they're closer to 11 to 13 now around the age a kid's personality really begins to develop into an individual and I can see with these new designs that maybe at one time all 3 dressed the same but as they got older Louie's and Dewy's styles changed from that of Huey's. Personally I really like the new designs and would love both theirs and Schrooge's new designs to Show up in Kingdom Hearts 3 if there in the game as while I think the classic designs are iconic I think it's OK to mix things up as well!

      CaramelLatte honestly I agree. and I think it's due to the fact that CN doesn't really care about the quality as long as it makes them money. The target audience for these shows seem to be much younger than the originals and therefore they feel like they don't have to put as much effort into them. However with Disney, they have made a name for themselves based on perfection and delivering what fans want. I genuinely believe they are trying to entice new viewers while keeping the same charm of the original to reel in the old audience. This is what makes Disney so great and also why I believe CN is failing. they just don't care anymore. Sorry for the rant, just really love this show so far and I can tell you do too!

      Dewey definitely acts like a middle child. He feels the need to capture attention as often as he can and he is usually off on his own or with webby. Louie relies on his brothers to help him, Huey is that supportive brother, but Dewey is the middle glue even though he may be neglected a bit. This is what allowed the first season to be “the Dewey season”. His adventurous and outgoing self who is able to go out on missions by himself without his brothers worrying about him too much.

  • @AtarahDerek
    @AtarahDerek Před 7 lety +230

    Who says they have to have identical personalities in order to finish one another's sentences?
    Are you going to analyze all three boys? Because Dewey ought to be interesting. Of the triplets, he's the only one who got a day in the limelight. We got to see that he actually struggles with the insecurities that often come with being part of a matched set. He's an introvert, while his brothers both seem to be extroverts. He tried to set himself apart from his brothers at one point, only to resign himself to the fact that their greatest strength was their inseparability. He loves his brothers dearly, but he doesn't want to be them. He wants to be his own drake. These are traits and insecurities that middle children often possess, and I'm excited to see Disney expand on the ones we've seen in Dewey in the original series.

      They don't have to be, I guess, but the just are. The comics joke about it and the show design documents make a point of labeling them as identical. Duck artist Patrick Block told me at Comic-Con that he has his own ideas for who the kids are, but it's not really official... and most of the time, coloring decides which duck is which at random BECAUSE they're so interchangable.
      I am planning to do one for each of the boys, yeah -- but I'm not familiar with this Dewey episode! My DVDs don't have the full series on them (and I try to avoid downloading things I haven't paid for)... and I don't know if I remember that one from when I was a kid or not. Do you remember the episode name? I'd really like to address it if I could.

    With the boys, I have a head canon that they would all have been a junior woodchuck, for about one year or less. Supposing that Louie is the lazy one. He probably would have little to no interest in the junior woodchucks and probably got the least amount of badges and took in the least amount of knowledge. Then when asked if he wanted to return to it. He immediately said no. With Dewey, he probably would have loved it because of the adventures they get to do outside of Duckburg but perhaps it was not enough for him, and he kept getting lost in the woods looking for bears or something. Scaring everyone involved and possibly got banned from the junior woodchucks. With Huey, it probably was a great at first, getting to just spend time with his brothers and then when it was just him, but he didn't stop the junior woodchucks. Why? Maybe it allowed him to just simply be Huey, and not part of a set. Or he meant other ducks who were exactly like him and he didn't want to leave them behind.
    So now he can be the Mcguffin duck in a pinch on their adventures (as long as he has his junior woodchuck guide book) However Huey he is also something else. He is the call back to the original nephews that we know and love from all of their previous incarnations. While Dewey and Louie are going to be given their own personalities. (Although the lack of what we've seen of Louie is a bit disappointing in my opinion)

      I think the new Ducktales will do a better job with the nephew's split personalities and designs, since it doesn't feel too trendy like Quack Pack was.

    • @naps153
      @naps153 Před 7 lety +7

      The main issue with Quack Pack was probably its lack of continuity in-between episodes, as they could blow up the universe in one episode then start anew as if nothing happened the next, and the plot generally didn't make sense (although the Daisy goes around the world to report on things was a good excuse for most of what they've pulled). Thus the characters could never know any form of evolution, but their personalities did have some good design.
      Huey was the wanna-be cool guy who only wanted fame, success, and ladies but he was still the leader of the pack. Most decisions came from him and most consequences as well, he was real mad when his brothers were threatened to be brainwashed. Dewey was the smart kid but he did try to stand out and did get genuinely passionate about his hobbies, and Louie was the "I act first think later" muscle-guy character who did not know what he wanted to be when he grew up, so he sort of tried everything and went all out as he did.
      And with Donald they either would destroy the house to torment him for fun, or they'd do their absolute best to throw him a surprise birthday party. It was nice and sweet, a sort of "I hate you but still love you" relationship between uncle and nephews.
      Yes, I really love Quack Pack if you wonder.

I don't know if the people behind the reboot had this in mind when rebooting Huey, but it's a nice callback.

    Now that you mention it, it actually makes a lot of sense to have the boys each stand for different characterizations of the triplets in the comics and other iterations. Because I remember noticing even as a kid that their characterization kind of changes a lot based on which story they happen to be in. Sometimes they're the boy scout archetypes and sometimes they're mischievous little bastards... and sometimes they're somewhere in-between I guess.

      I dunno, I have a soft spot in my heart for Mighty Ducks. It didn't grab me as much as Biker Mice from Mars did but it felt the closest to that and the one who started it all, TMNT. MD was ridiculous but took itself just seriously enough for me to care about what happened. I liked the alien aspect, the villains were fun (loved their designs), and the heroes were amusing. Mallory is basically what I presume an all-grown-up Gosalyn would be like, down to her design (which leads me to suspect Gosalyn was an inspiration.) It wasn't great but I enjoyed Mighty Ducks more than Quack Pack, if only because I felt like QP tried a little too hard and hadn't really found its footing before they started production. Then again, MD had more seasons so maybe QP could've hit its stride eventually. :)

    Just stumbled upon your video, well made and analyzed even though it wasn't broadcasted yet by the time you made this.
    Well regarding their birth order, it got something to do with their personality types too. I think they're categorized based on the gens. As in Gen X, Y, and Z. You can see it their clothing style too. Huey being the oldest is the most old fashioned, staying true to his Carl Barks roots. The Junior Woodchuck guidebook and his hat symbolizes this. Dewey being the middle child is the millennial who loves adventure, living in the moment, etc. While Louie being the youngest is the Gen z. The most tech savvy, most laziest, yet analytical and can better see the bigger picture (if he gets his mind to it).

    You know in a way it kind of reminds me of what happened with the Ninja Turtles. In their first cartoon series there wasn't all that much distinction between them, most of how we saw them was formed from the theme song not the characters themselves. They were also pretty identical except for colour. Mostly Donatello stood out because there was situations where only he could do things.
    But the two reboots since then established the characters we were told they have and the most recent CGI reboot is actually delivering on the ninja part of the premise a lot more than previously. Anyway basically I'm saying I'm pretty opimistic about giving them more unique personalities since its worked out great in the past. But we'll have to see what happens when the series hits for real I suppose.

    The Junior WoodChucks Guidebook is way more explained in the Italian version of the comics: the book is called "Il Manuale Delle Giovani Marmotte", in short, GM's book. The book being apparently an answer to ANYTHING was granted by nobody but Ludwig von Drake! He is one of the secret writers of the books, that is also given to every new recruit of the Junior WoodChucks, so no wonders why is so useful!
