    Thanks for this video, I'm also a 29" leg and since replacing my much loved MT07 with a Tracer 900 I've been struggling with the bike at low speeds and stops because of the height. In gravel car parks it's pretty scary trying to back the bike into a space on tip toes. This video has convinced me that lowering will be worthwhile, hopefully it'll work, as every time I ride the Tracer I find myself wishing I was back on the MT07.

    Many thanks for this, I wasn’t aware the links existed. I have just bought the 900GT and I have 29” inside leg, so although I can manage ok this mod will be the obvious choice to do. Again great info 👍

    @Bowlin01 Před 3 lety +2

    Yep, I'm short in the leg so went with 25mm lowering links, so much better for me, no problems with the sidestand on level ground, have to be careful on ground hat is 'up hill' on the left (if you get what I mean) but it's easy to avoid that. Getting it onto the centre stand is slightly more difficult, but still easier than previous bikes I've had in the past.

    Thanks for posting this. We’re looking at a lowered tracer 700 for my old man this week. He’s around 5’6”/5’7”. He is wedded to his K75 and I think it’s because it’s a manageable height. He is too long in the tooth to deploy the side saddle stopping technique I have to use on my GS, so hopefully this works for him as he’s 74 and I am keen to get him on something with ABS at the very least :)

      I had a Honda CBF1000 a couple of years ago which had an adjustable seat height from very low, to very high. I could flat foot it no problem. Even though it's a 1000cc it's so tame and smooth, very comfortable upright position, lots of low down torque. Just sharing another option for you. Thanks for the comments.

      Maybe they should make the bikes a little bit shorter so good for the short riders too ?

    • @geetee5509
      @geetee5509  Před 2 lety

      Yes there are other big cc bikes that I like that are too tall for me. The Honda cbf1000 though has a very low seat height, I can get both feet flat on the floor. Not as exciting to ride as the Tracer but a very comfortable and capable commuter or tourer

    I'm seriously considing this for my Tracer 900. The bike feels "ok" standard height, but after dropping it doing a tight U-turn (my fault entirely) I do feel as though I would be better off getting it lowered. I feel if I'd had just that little bit more purchase on the ground I'd have had a chance to save the drop! 29" legs don't help matters but I don't want to sell the bike for the sake of 15-20mm and £100!

In your last pectures you show the difference between low Seat & Links. Have you taken picture any pictures with both the Links & Low Seat fitted?

      Hi Mark, I originally bought the low seat first but didn't notice any difference. I made a CZcams video of it and returned the seat to the store. No good to me if it doesn't make a difference. You can buy links that lower the bike by a greater amount, like 25mm but you may have trouble getting on and off the stand.

    Sounds like the work was done at the dealership. Were they able to order the part for you? Was it an OEM part? Trying to find information that is not aftermarket, online, is difficult. Thanks!

    Great video on the GT for us short folk. Many thanks. Did I miss it or can you mention your height and especially your inside leg size. I had the shorter links fitted on my 2018 GT. lowered with lust links by 20mm but found that depending where I parked it I struggled to get the side stand down or when it was down the bike stood up too straight which worried me. Sounds likes it’s much better with just getting it lowered by 15mm. I now have a 2022 MT09 which is a great bike but I miss all the benefits of the GT. I actually had the links taken out but the bike was too tall for me so I sold it unfortunately. Looking to bike a GT again but checking things out first. Hi from Glasgow. 👍

    Cheers Graham. Great video. I can sit on Chris’ bike no bother. It’s the same as yours. But my tracer is a 2017 with a yamaha comfort seat. I had always been ok on it on my tip toes, but since the last accident I’ve had a few probs with my bust knee cap having the strength to keep the bike up sometimes. I’m actually toying with the idea of punting the bike now and some time down the line getting a newer tracer. Due to a job change I only need the one bike now, so was going to keep the MT09. No point in me having a touring bike this year as we can’t get to Europe. 😩 What height are you? I’m 5’7. / 170cm. Never had bother until that bloody car hit me. 😩

      Hi John, I'm 5'8 with 29" inseam. I thought I could manage on the Tracer until I climb back on it after riding something else and then it always felt so tall. It's much better now, very similar to my Z1000sx which is around 820mm.
      I wish I had a larger garage as I would buy another MT09 like yours in an instant. Great fun/mad bikes they are. I don't recall picking up in any if you videos where you mention an accident, hope it gets easier for you. Just watched your Tadgers bad day video this morning too. I'll comment there rather than here though. Thanks for watching and the comments John.

      The Yamaha comfort seat ADDS HEIGHT due to the way they padded the foam. And they are not as comfortable as a seat that cradles your rear end and distributes the weight (like a Corbin or similar). I have been renting a Tracer 900 with the factory comfort seat and it definitely makes it taller, even in the low position.

      @@geetee5509 That's how tall I am! Good to know it still handles the same in the curves! I really like Yamahas. I've owned a Yamaha before, the first bike that I ever bought brand new from a dealership was a: 2010 FZ6R. When I was younger I owned and rode bikes that were really too tall for me, but I have always been hesitant about lowering kits, because the fear of it being lowered changing the handling. I currently ride a Triumph that's 31.7 inches. It's truthfully a little tall, I put about 3/4s of both feet flat on the ground (I can't get the whole foot down). The Tracer Gt is on my watchlist, but I was looking at the specs on it, it was .2 inches taller than my Triumph to the saddle. Consequently that's how I found your video. :)
