I appreciate Biehn's character doesn't belittle Cages character for his lack of combat experience, he just wants to know what he can expect from the guy.
That's an excellent point . He did the same thing in Alien's, he treated Newt like an equal and a capable survivor that deserved respect. Always great characters by a truly great actor.

The ages also work, pretty much - Spencer was 16 years younger than Connery; Standen is 10 years older than Highmore but seems older since Highmore has a youthful look to him.

What I love about this scene is Mason is still an agent and has no problem with the seal team as he's been in their situation in the past but still hates Womack. He could've taken his anger out on all of them but he knows there's bigger fish to fry.
In fairness, it absolutely would still be necessary for Goodspeed to brief the SEALs on how to disarm the VX, even if he's going. If anything happens to him, they're screwed. A single point of failure like that is unacceptable on such an operation.
Good point. Besides, all he did was unscrew the canister, take out the chip, and screw the canister back in. Seems simple enough.

The Irony, the director doesn't want the ex con to go to prison. But wants the nerd to go to prison.
Well, the nerd is the only guy directly under his command. Putting Goodspeed on the team is his only way of keeping a lead on Mason.
He doesn’t want Mason to go so that he won’t have any shot at freedom and will instead spend the rest of his life rotting in a prison cell without trial like he had for 30 years prior. Thankfully he got his freedom thanks to Goodspeed saying he was vaporized at the end of the film.
Goodspeed was the only one who can defuse the warheads and Wolmack just wanted Mason to tell them how to get into the Rock but that backfired on Wolmack.

He was a good actor, he just couldn't do other accents but that didn't stop him from getting some great roles in films.
I like the idea these guys got the best hobby model maker to make that scale model of Alcatraz on the table in record fast time for "classified reasons" or some museum just lost its feature piece.
