  • The AR platform may be Barbie for men, but just like outfits, not everything goes together. This month, we tackle an issue that comes up often in the 3-Gun world about which parts won't work together and what you can do about it. Check it out.

I find that adding the tungsten weights with the low mass buffer works best for me. I prefer having buffered weight vs just a heavier carrier. Same cyclic timing result better feel.

      Why?

There are rubber bushings between the weights that reduce secondary recoil. Faster follow up shots via faster tgting.

I have removed the steel weights (and bushings) from my scs. That's half the difference between the lmos (steel) and ulmos (alu). Maybe it will break tomorrow but I doubt it.

If it’s doing what you want is all that matters. I shoot ar’s in Prs matches when the course of fire is generally close. If you were running and gunning a lighter reciprocating mass could be better

FWIW I've come to really like the combination of light carrier and heavy buffer mass. I now have both a 10 and 15 with titanium carriers and full tungsten SCS. Not only does it feel much better, it's more reliable, and quieter.

Say thanks for all that tip there. That was really good. Oh yeah, have 4 of them. And I've never had any trouble. I have a very tight group, almost the same home.

Rifle speed makes a great gas block for this application however they don't have inconel straight gas tubes.

My question is, if I run a lightweight carrier with the capture spring on the lowest spring weight and have a suppressor on the gun with an adjustable gas block, will I still have issues with premature bolt movement? I want to make it so I have the least amount of gas possible entering the reciever of the gun

@Reutsib7 I went ahead and did it anyway, took a brownells titanium m16 BCG, put it on a mill and shaved another 3 ounces off of it, along with switching the firing pin to a titanium one. The benefits were INSANE. Gun runs much cleaner, almost no recoil, higher and more consistent velocities, and less port pop with the gas being redirected thru the can. Also, did some testing in a friends M16 when we were out on the range, dropping that carrier in his rifle made it run around 1400rpm which was SUPER cool

I built a blackout with a Ballistic Advantage barrel, pistol length gas system, Sharps Rifle Company XPB bcg, Odinworks Adjustable Low Profile Gas Block, and an JP Silent Capture System and it's not locking back to the rear... I'm maxed out on gas running subs and it just needs a hair more pressure. I've also changed out the spring to the white spring which is listed as the lightest one JP has. Pretty bothered by it right now so my next course of action is to chronograph the reloads I've made; 208gn Hornady ELD Match bullets, Lapua Brass, H110 powder, and CCI small rifle primers... Loaded at 1100fps per the book so I'm going to chronograph them next to see if I'm actually hitting 1100fps or if I'm under. I did some research and found the BCG I'm running might be too heavy at 11.2oz. I'd rather change out the weights in the buffer but JP doesn't make anything lighter so that rules that out. Can't add anymore gas so that's out. Thinking of getting a Faxon lightweight BCG but that's an expensive price to shave off 2.7 ounces... Going to load up some supers and see what happens and chronograph to get a better picture.

I'd think it should cycle no problem, but also that your thinking is right, you need a lighter carrier.
Given it's a 300blk and subs I assume silenced as well? I highly suggest you just grab yourself a titanium carrier. I'm very pleased with the Rubber City Armory full profile titanium carrier I run in a similar setup.
In my 8" 300BLK I wasn't having issues getting it to cycle, but it did have issues when stripping heavy subs from a stuffed mag when let off the bolt catch. Conventional wisdom said heavy mass and spring, this wasn't working, made it worse actually(more mass). Going to a lighter carrier solved it, the spring could get it going faster before it reached the mag.
I also wanted to work on getting the action quieter, so needing less gas and less impact noise from the carrier. Lightening it and going titanium did a lot of good there as well. My SCS in that sucker is the extra short two weight version that comes with the Maxim Defense stuff. But I run it with both tungsten and currently the heaviest spring. The combo of light carrier and heavy buffer mass has a real nice dead blow effect.
If you want to experiment I don't see any harm in completely removing the weights from the SCS temporarily. I did it for a bit to experiment. But reducing buffer mass defeats it's purpose, I'd only suggest it as a way of learning if lighter is better for you.

      1. Not locking to the rear due to short stroking?
      2. Not locking to the rear due to bolt speed too high? (maxed out gas light spring)
      3.Gas block properly aligned?
      4. Undersized gas port?

  • @vsbracing
    @vsbracing Před 4 lety +1

Which gas length? With rifle length and 18 inch barrel the bullet only have too travel few inches more before the gas could open the bolt.

I have a Daniel Defense DDM4 V7 Pistol with a OEM BCG and I am wanting to upgrade my buffer. Would I be good with your JPSCS2-15H2 captured spring system?

  • @rad9303

Had a strange condition where a JP FMOS bcg runs fine on a 14.5 mid with an SCS buffer but when I switched to a geisselle super 42 buffer, it would not lock back on an empty mag and jam rounds. I A-B’ed the two buffer springs and that was the culprit. Any idea if the FMOS doesn’t play well with the super 42 spring and buffer?

  • @snek9353

    - I could use a heavier spring, I have the XS two weight SCS with the heaviest spring offered. What can I do to go heavier?
    - I'd really like to talk you guys into making a low mass version of the VMOS, ideally in titanium.

What are the specs on the rifle?

    • @snek9353
      @snek9353 Před 4 lety

@@JPRifles The sucker I'm after the heavier spring for is a 8" 300blk w/silencer, maxim brace, SCS currently w/2 steel, adjustable block and currently a full mass(basic M16 profile) carrier. There's two reliability issues that occasionally pop up.
      1. Sometimes it won't strip a heavy sub from a full mag and will stop just before the round clears the feed lips when released from the bolt catch. This is a minor issue, really only occurs with the surefire(quad stack) mags, they're really tight when full.
      2. I think I have a bolt bounce issue, occasionally no bang and when I look the carrier is back just a bit. But the extractor has the case and just a slight push on the carrier puts it in battery. I think if the spring had a bit more pressure at full extension it'd push it back into battery.
I'm also trying to reduce my gas needs and thus shopping lighter carriers. It makes sense to me that the ideal would likely be a very light carrier but heavy buffer mass. And that carrier being something other then steal to reduce bounce. I think a titanium carrier with the additional buffer weights would be awesome.
I also have a SCS and VMOS in my large frame, but want to experiment with a lighter carrier, a titanium version there would be great as well.
WOW staked and loctite on the gas key, just stripped it.

@@JPRifles Really, what's with all the F'n loctite? Now my VMOS carrier is FUCKED why the F would you loctite in the F'n key bolts?
The gobs of blue used on the SCS is bad enough, but red on the key bolts. I have no idea how I'm going to get this out now without F'n up the carrier.

So im building a rifle with a 223 LMOS and SCS, on a BCM lower and BCM upper with 14.5 pin/weld mid length fixed gas. Will I run into any issues? I only bought your BCG, i may need to invest in a standard BCG to tell the difference or do i simply need to look for bad groups? I've got some 69gr BHA OTM i can use to zero and test.
