    These trucks kept America alive - I started driving ‘em back in the 80’s. They make cool parade toys, but I’ve gotten used to the newer ones. I just don’t think I could give up the comfort & convenience for a 40 year-old back breaker.

    The local feed mill used to run nothing but GMC General cabovers. All Detroit 2-strokes. As the saying goes, check the fuel, fill the oil. The owner of that feed mill went to great lengths to maintain that fleet for decades after GMC stopped making Generals. They were dragging in parts rigs from all over the country.

    Worked at a GMC Dealership back when I was a kid (late 60's 70's. Changed many a cab on the Astros. Knew them inside out. Also worked on Thermo-Kings. Number one problem was the evaporator beeing blocked with paper or plastic cutting down airflow. Easy fix

    That engine sounds so gruff, so sweet, so smooth and grunty! When I was in Hanksville Utah coupla years back on holiday I was grubbing round a junkyard for old licence plates (I'm a English nut job who collects truck and heavy machinery souvenirs and badges) and there was one just like yours there just sitting in the sun, a real beauty. Tim I have a 98 peterbilt 379 and recently only one of the metals copper pieces that your dad was switching out broke and ended up in the oil pan it broke a small chunk off 1/4 width maybe a inch long . I believe it was the first or second one from the front of the motor. the motor is a n14 red top. We bought the new parts but I’m just in a tight spot with money to pay a mechanic if you could help a fellow trucker out with anything with putting the new ones in or do you think done for, my motor still spins everything was just working fine before this but I love the channel and where your taking it

      If one of your bearings broke your gonna need to do some investigating, a big chunk of metal breaking might have done some big damage. I recommend you take the main bearing cap off where the one broke and carefuly inspect if it is savable, also for the love of god please do not spin the motor anymore. Theirs loose metal inside your engine. Do not spin it anymore

    The last company I drove for had very talented mechanics. When the owners brand new, one driver Peterbilt had constant problems, the plan was to buy some 1970s or 80s tractors from the no rust South, strip to the bare frame rails, and sandblast those, and build a new tractor from the ground up. Don't check brake chambers or wiring, replace with new. All new everything but the block pre emissions Cummins and Cat engines. Unfortunately the company didn't survive to complete this plan.

My vehicles including my 1995 Taurus wagon a/c is ice cold🥶 ..... Works 4 me! A/C systems are similar in a lot of ways. Great video! Love that old cab over. On the refrigeration should use a service valve wrench to preserve the valve stem and do not over-tighten in front or back seat position. Over tightening will damage valve seats or packing gland. Refrigerant level should be checked will all zones enabled and at setpoint. The liquid receiver will have higher level when all zones are not enabled or below setpoint.

    • @jjhz83
      @jjhz83 Před rokem +1

      Another thing, refrigeration units are critical charge and should be weighed in to not over or under charge. Lastly 404a is a blended refrigerant and should be charged in liquid state to prevent fractionalization.
