    This gun with thin plaster targets is a great way to introduce kids to shooting with no recoil and less noise. But for vermin, snakes, etc. I've used a 2" barrel pistol and gotten similar up close pattern. In that short a barrel the rifling has little effect and its a lot easier to carry around than a rifle.

      I'm curious how it's pattern compares to a rifled barrel? Any thoughts?

    • @UserFormelyKnownAs_hjkh
      @UserFormelyKnownAs_hjkh Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@justadbeer well imagine taking a shotgun and then spinning the BBs like a football on the way out of the barrel. That pattern is going to suck big time! Same thing with these shotshells and rhe garden gun. This garden gun is literally a 22 shotgun. Youd never even think about firing a 12 ga shell out of a 50cal at a duck. Why would it be any different in this case?
      On a real note, the pattern is great. As i said, this stupid little rifle has killed more critters around my place in the few years ive owned it than any other rifle i own, including the ones i regularly hunt with.

    • @danb4275
      @danb4275 Před 3 měsíci

      @@justadbeerthere are other videos on CZcams. It's pretty much the opposite result. At 30 feet you'd have a donut that might not fit on a refrigerator box, and with a little luck, possibly a couple pellets within a foot or two of the target.
      I'd love to see how penetration compares. The tests I've seen from rifled barrels couldn't kill a rat at 5 feet...

    I have a .22 caliber rimfire smoothbore bolt action gun: Remington 510 SB (smoothbore), single shot. I don't believe it has any choke but it shoots a pretty good dense pattern out to 15 feet or so..good enough to dispatch small critters like a rat or bird or larger snake. Some smoothbore .22 rimfires do have some degree of choke in the bore those for sure are limited to .22 rimfire shot cartridges only. Never tried regular solid bullet loads in mine it's limited to shot cartridges only.

    Around here(soutern in). Many vfws shoot 22 shot indoors for sport. Closest to x wins. I have a henry and a routledge bore rem (supposed to be best ever made). The rem does better on avg, but the henry is very competative. The performance of both is affected by ventilation, humidy and temp signifigantly. The henry shoots solid bullets to minute of groundhog easily to 40 yds or so.

      A few months before the "Great Ammo Shortage" of 2016-17? I'd bought several CCI.22 LR shot shell boxes, . Most of the time I was buying basic.22 standard and I would always notice the CCI shot shell for $3. And even lower, so I'd just add it to my order each time for online purchases. Eventually, I ended up with 50 or more boxes of .22 shell. And still got most of it in my Ammo storage. I used them on testing a revolver at paper targets. Seem to work well at 10-15 feet, but out of a 2 inch revolver, probably not much power, but worked.

    looks like a grate little rifle, but could not find one in the east coast of Canada, got a EGE Arms LV410 leaver action 410. holds five shots and a great looking shotgun, very smooth action got it in the black walnut stock. Comes with sights and a rail and two different stocks, and five chocks. Can not find any videos on this model. 18.5" barrel should make a great little garden and barn gun, using 9 or 8 shot. Want to check the patterns for the different chocks, most likely full open for close range rats. Even comes with a raped around rail to put a light on for night shooting. A very solid made shotgun.

    Fun little lever gun. Picked one up a year or so ago, I've had rat issues. Hard to find in Canada, waited well over a year for a dealer to get some in stock. Being a smooth bore I'm wondering why not simply have a bead sight on it vs buckhorn rear + front blade? While it works ok, seems overkill for such a short range shotgun as would be an optic. I suspect it's due to manufacturing economy of scale? Easier to just keep the line running as for the rifled version? For the extra $$$ charged it would be nice to customize the sight appropriately for a shotgun. ;) For chits & giggles I put a peep sight on the receiver & removed the buckhorn. Need to go shoot it now to see if I need to mess with the front blade, perhaps remove it altogether.

I noticed that the .44 Rimfire cartridge that the 1860 Henry fired is pretty similar to .45 ACP when it comes to size & ballistics, and knowing that they're both small cartridges (compared to .45 Colt and .44-40) I feel like it's possible that an Original Henry rifle in .45 ACP could hold up to 15-16 rounds just like the 1860 Henry did.

    I think Savage made a single shot bolt gun like this. That's my sketchy memory, FYI, so if that's incorrect don't pound me.
    Good idea at the right price point. I wouldn't pay a lot for it. You can keep the cats out of your flower bed without killing them.

      @@davidreeder1544 When I say 'getting away with' I'm talking about smoothbore pistols and rifles being against federal gun laws. Smoothbore shotguns are legal. Smoothbore rifles and handguns are not (revolvers like The Judge have at least some rifling). This is a smoothbore rifle.

    • @davidreeder1544
      @davidreeder1544 Před 3 měsíci +2

      You are right about the 410 judge needing rifling for legal reasons. The only federal law I'm aware of says you can't have a smooth bore pistol. I believe this law was to target home made pipe guns or zip guns. There is no law banning a smooth bore long guns. A smooth bore long gun is just a shotgun. Just because the shells are normally fired through rifled guns doesn't change the class of this firearm. It's just a small bore shotgun.

      That could be. I mean, either you must be right or Taurus is about to have a lot of trouble. Of course that doesn't mean the ATF won't 'interpret' the rule to include rifles next week.
