I love the detail of him asking if she's still there more than once. Chances are the bombs poison is shutting down major organs throughout the game, and by that point, he's mostly, if not completely, blind. He wants to be reassured she isn't going to leave. Meruem might be the strongest creature on the planet, but emotionally, he's not far off from Komugi's age.
This was specially sad and impactful to Jaster, the dude in the bottom right corner. Their mom just died a few months ago iirc when he reacted to this. He and his twin brother were the first og HxH reactors. I hope they are doing alright these days.

I admit it, I did cry with the death of Meruem and Komugi😭

Bringing that form of transcendent comradry between beings of two species, an ant and a human down to a relationship is just boring. Viewing it as romantic makes it cliche even, and pedophilic visually or reverse. It's best to view it as a platonic friendship.
