WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT OWNING AND LIVING WITH A 2006 SUBARU WRX WAGON

  • In this video we explore some of the uniqueness of the WRX Wagon, what makes it special, give a view on some things you may not know and what its like owning this car.
For instance the WRX boot space at 356 litres puts it more on par hatchback practicality not estate practicality despite looking like the latter.
Also, if you want to put 3 adults in the back is going to be tight. Watch to see just how tight.
The interior is old fashioned interior but this “limited” edition does get leather heated seats and a moon roof…
The Boxer engine sits lower in the car making handling better, even though the car looks like it’s on stilts. The engine is horizontally opposed and so it sits centrally allowing the rear diff to sit centrally giving perfect left/right weight distribution.
The manual 5 speed gearbox splits power 50/50 front and rear unless slippage is detected then the viscous centre locking differential shifts power to the right wheel AKA - Active torque shift!
Even though it’s an old design and it feels old it still gets front and side airbags, crumple zones, side impact beans and seat belt pre-tensioners.
The 2.5l dohc engine won international engine of the year in 2006. Despite chuck out over 250g of CO2 every km.
It has a fly by wire throttle - although you’d be hard pushed to notice.
The gearbox cogs are cold forged and use shot peening hardening. This means this box is tough, really tough. It’s just a shame the gear knob isn’t heated as sometimes it can be freezing!
It may only be 5 speed but this means you can have lots of fun with it and not get an STI.
On the Impreza WRX and STI sedan the lower front transverse link suspension arm is made of cast aluminium to reduce the unsprung weight. This is a direct input from the World Rally and STI development program.

Can you think of a better value for money performance hatch than this 2006 WRX Wagon??

I have an 03 but it doesn't have the leather and heated seats and amenities like the 06 but it is still really nice. subaru like you said you really just get alot of car for the money.

The frame less windows are epic. :D I had a 2004 wrx saloon this time last year with 94k miles and it was decent. It didn't have a PPP on it though and I had had an sti before, so I found it a bit disappointing and ended up selling it after 2 months and getting an sti. I think the gearbox and the brakes are much better on the sti.
Value for money wise and practically the wrx in this hatch form is better. They are 1/2 the price of the sti and the hatch adds a little more room for loading things in.

Hi mate, do you get pulled by the police allot because I was going to buy a wrx saloon but some say it's a police magnet so I decided to go for the estate version. I do long distance driving and this car looks fun compared to my lucida.

I got one! Had it for a solid half a year. Lost some of hits killowats through it's 300K km unless the engine was swapped, but i like it. Compared to the sedan, it's a sleeper. It's also really fun and performs just as good. They are in most cases less abused, because young rallyists prefer the sedan much more. The extra space in the back - great. The best part, retractable seats! I love it. Still lots to work on, get fixed and upgrade, but it is getting along. Blobeye, best generation, by the way :]

    • @damos_cars
      @damos_cars  Před 5 lety +1

The roof bars were on when I got the car. I assume they came from the factory. Maybe it was an optional extra on the Wagon but I can't find anything definitive in the brochure. I think adding them on is a bit of a hassle though and would require removal of the headlining.
