Come one, the whole 10th has been a disaster, we don't need a patch for that. Deleting tons of units and the whole forge world army ranges, taking away player agency i how they want to build their army by fixing squad sizes and making those idiotic locked weapons on many squads, where you are not even allowed to pick your gear, taking away the complexity and joy of tinkering on your roster with by removing sub-faction. The whole 10th has been a cesspool since the very begining. To be fair, global rulebook rules seem fine because they make playing itself a bit faster and things like how terrain works is not more clear, but a lot of index/codex rules are badly worded and people ask how things work on reddit and discords all the time.
Also everyone gets lethal wound and sustained hits as their go to buffs. All armies seems VERY similar to each other these days and it sucked all the atmosphere and soul out of the game. I remember good old times of 5th edition, where atmosphere was so heavy, you would make rolls for your Chaos Lord heroic deeds to see which one out of like 60 chaos mutations he would gain as a boon. There is nothing like that these days. 9th was very fun for me, 8th I liked, but 10th is the edition I'm skipping. Tried a few games and it's not enjoyable anymore.

I bought a Codex. 6 months later we were given for free the 10th edition. Shocked face!!! (I tried to get into GW back around 3rd Edition and said never again). To hear that they have created a 10.5...not shocked. When I went to talk to my "friendly" local gamestore owner...I found out he he isn't so friendly. I spent over 300 USD in one fell swoop. I hadn't even painted my minis! Frankly I don't even like the rules that much I just wanted to find a wargaming group. If you still have the 3rd edition rulebook, codices and an army, I bet you could, with a little bit of effort, find people to play 3rd edition with. I do from time to time, and it's a blast!
I can only really fault GW for one thing here, and that is having one foot in the future and the other in the past. The second they stop printing their rules physically and going full digital, all of this clamoring stops.
If they didn't make a new mission deck, people would complain the game gets stale (people did)
If they didn't invalidate codex points costs by doing much needed balance changes, people would complain (they did)
If they didn't change core rules as written, cause people found out ways to abuse them after millions of collective games, people would complain (they do)
Damn near everything but model prices can be fixed with subscription based digital rules and an app that makes for a genuine game companion to keep track of missions & score with, fixing every one of the problems mentioned above. And you know what? People would still find reasons to complain. xD

It downgraded so much, I feel like I'm looking into souless "product" right now. What's even more annoying is that rules are done not to show the atmosphere of a faction but for tournament use strictly, where things are gamey and bland, because it's not about the setting, it's about playing efficiently. Tournament players are like less than a 1% of 40k population, and it happens with the cost to the rest of people who just want to enjoy the game together with bunch of their buddies.

Whilst I do get deeply saddened when my Core Rulebook is immediately invalidated by the first rules pack that drops, the cards don't particularly bother me. The same thing happened in Age of Sigmar with the General's Handbook releases, and usually, I'd played so many games with each one that discovering a new focus (monsters to troops to wizards etc) meant I got to play my army in new ways. A lot of my friends have played hundreds of games of Leviathan, and they're similarly looking forward to a fresh take to change up army composition. For players who play a bit less (me included), enough of the cards are the same that realistically the learning curve is minimal. Additionally, if you're someone who mainly plays with the same person or same group of people, only half of you actually need to buy the deck. A good way to provide yourself a truly balanced experience, particularly when there are a few decks out, is to roll a D6 or a D3 when you turn up to your game. On a 1-3 you're playing Leviathan, and 4-6 you're playing Pariah Nexus, or 1 Leviathan, 2 Pariah Nexus, and 3 whatever the next iteration is. I'll certainly be doing that for casual games - you really do have to build a balanced army for all eventualities that way!

I remember when I took the plunge and ordered online an Imperial Guard army (forking out a good $300AUD) to start my new hobby journey. I had spent a few weeks researching which faction I wanted the rules etc. They never arrived. What arrived was an email from the independent online store advising GW had just established a trade embargo preventing online stores from online
selling GW products to folk in another country. My reaction -
"Screw you GW - I will play something else!"
Some years later Star Wars Legion drops and in I dove. And what a bonus - a game operating from an online living document rulebook -who would have thunk it in the internet age!
So great work GW - their motto should be "GW - driving players into buying competitor's minis since the 1980's"

It’s sad, as a long time player, we went from rare codex updates (ie 3rd ed dark eldar) and a slower edition change where all they needed to do were rules FAQs and a better job keeping codexs updated (which wasn’t great but you at least had time to “get good” with the army/models you had) to this nonsense FOMO/Meta chase, dumbed down rules, huge power creep/codex disparity and blink before you miss it edition changes.
I love the IP (mainly before the return of Gulliman), the stories and lore but I just can’t help but feel that with each year the soul of the game fades more and more.
It’s maybe a little sad but my favourite memories of the game come from friendly beerhammer games where the impossible happened, like the tau firewarriors (from when they first came out) beating a blood thirster to death in CC after it changed them and wiffed all its attacks or the time where my imperial guard sergeant passed his bionics rolls for 3 straight turns to get back up and keep fighting a unit of space marine bikers, eventually killing them all but the attached Chaplin.
These tales and more were passed around my gaming group for years, but I rarely if ever hear these types stories anymore from the 40k players (many are younger, newer players with the veterans moving on).
I can’t help but think that the state of the game has taken some of the fun away from them and we are all worse for it.
Sorry for the old man rant 😅

You are the only journalist that actually criticises GW this harshly, and I think that others should follow your lead rather than just shrug and accept the changes, even though we have been considerably worse off since 10th started.
I actually think GW are looking to move to a subscription model for the game. You get all the rules, including a certain number of codices for different tiers, with the highest unlocking them all. Once all the books are out for 10th, they'll rapidly switch to 11th, keep the books, but adjust the rules to justify the new edition. This sort of rapid updating of the rules isn't just a by-product of them rushing out 10th early (which they did), but is actually closer to a model they would like to try. Why do I suspect this?
Well, one thing that subscription services do so much better than the old method is hook in new players with obscene deals. That new Combat Patrol magazine with Hachette is basically doing that, but for minis. Well, guess what, if you commit to a year or two year subscription to a faction, get the codex, and then get the models with it, you can play for that length of time! Updates free! Except that you've just committed to something that costs more than a high-end smartphone every month. The models are yours to keep! And the price comes down significantly if you only want the codex subscription afterwards! And this ties in nicely with all of the cross media promotions they've been doing. WH40K in other games, loads of merch with other companies, and even that Amazon show. That isn't for us. That's for the normies that never played the game or had any interest in the brand. But 9th was waaaaay too complicated, so 10th became dumbed down. Why do you think we use Power Level 2.0? We never wanted it. We knew it would make the rules too hard to balance. It's why no other system does it. And that's why the books have been so poor, trying to make rules fit strict points values when they had freedom and flexibility before. That means either wide points adjustments, or rewriting the entire codex again (Ad Mech, anyone?).
So what next? How to combat this? How do we make it clear that we hate this, and don't want to engage with such abysmal practices? Simple. Play something else. But other minis. Make our own 40K rules based on the best aspects of each era and edition. I'm standing up to them, and you should too!

Is it about models, or rules, or just GW being greedy, we don't know because it's a vague clickbait title: it could be on something that was announced yesterday, it could be something announced 2 weeks ago. We don't know: it has the exact same photo of discourse with their hand on their head in the thumbnail as the last video.
I write this, not as a 'hater' of the content - I love the pro-consumer vent, the sketches were really funny (when was the last one?) - but jeez, I can't bare the clickbait. It's insult to 'is this worth you're time? Click to find out!'. It's as anti-consumer as GW. GW wants my money, clickbait wants my time - the two being somewhat exchangeable. It's so disappointing, there is some great content on this channel, but the titles are so vague as to be off-putting, and the intros so generic I don't know if this is a 'oh hey, this company has done something genuinely awful and I'm going to learn something' or just mediocre 'hey, GW are capitalist shills which you've already heard from everyone else over the past days-weeks'.

I bought the core book last week and in the mission section it defines the parameters for missions and VP's.
Essentially you have primary objectives that both players fight over and then secondary faction or army specific missions objectives as well that are outlined in the codices.
The tactical objectives are a nice twist and secret objectives are a nasty idea as well.
Parish nexus is a thematic narrative expansion of Warhammer using elements from the original leviathan box set objectives and adding a new flavour. There is no reason you cannot play leviathan rules and they work in gameplay the same way.
I like these expansions and I suppose there will be more.
If both players don't have them that doesn't mean your wh40k collection is useless, that is absurd.
I'm sure not everyone will buy every expansion and I suppose there are certain advantages and disadvantages for factions in each expansion so your army is tested more or your units stretched or your brain taxed to different degrees.
The objectives really make sense of the battles, rather than were here beating the shit outta everyone there is a more thematic drama and narrative urgency to get things done.
Line my army the inquisition, sororitas and rogue traders they have secondary objectives of cleanse and sanctify so even if they fail primarily they get 10 points for doing the emperors holy work in the opposing deployment zone, I think adding tactical objectives into the mix is awesome as they are on the way to cleanse and burn they might pick up more points in the meantime.
