Your hair looks great & thank you for your honesty it helps a lot of people
I think topical only works well in higher concentrations at 1mg or over. At a low dose the solution may not be 100% absorbed due to sebum and hair in the way
studies show otherwise. a .3% solution is considered very strong, and with only 10-15% of finasteride being absorbed systemically, this dose still lowers serum DHT by 60-90%, similar to oral 1mg.
@@happyrobot6396so I’m correct then…?
Bravo on the hair regrowth. That is amazing. I would always try cutting the dose in half if you get sides from fin, or even less than that. Switching to dut or taking dut in addition to fin is also an option when losing ground.
I stopped my shedding and thickened crown and mid scalp over one year period with
- 1ml of 0.025% topical finasteride in 50/50 solution of non PG solvent and Stemoxydine as well as 5% minoxidil foam once per day
- Nizoral shampoo 2x per week
- micro needling 2x per month
- collagen and vitamin D3 daily
- low carb diet
This protocol has worked for me with zero side effects. Everyone is different so finding what works takes trial and error. I would only increase finasteride if shedding returned
Whats the base of the fin topical you mix in?

Hey man, do you know anything about topical finasteride? I got 0.11 mg fynzur 2,275 mg/ml and i was wondering if one spray equals 0.1 mg or what that means? Couldnt find anything it just says 1-4 sprays a day
Well at least you tried -- it's always a balance of efficacy vs. side effects. I have no SE from oral fin so I'm not gonna mess around and try topical. It makes sense that topical would be less effective since with a spray, you don't know if you got: 1) full coverage, or 2) effective dose. Add in the factor that it might cost more, and it makes little sense to go topical, unless it's your only option due to serious side effects. BTW dude, I noticed you always look like a big dude when in the gym (or that one shirtless pic), but in these regular videos, you look normal size. You maintaining or plan to bulk some more? Fellow gym-goer
I found that my hair thinning was due to a vitiman D deficiency from working night shift. Got my levels tested and on 5000 UI of D3 and have noticed a lot of new growth in just a month and a half. Way more than the year I was on topical fin.
Definitely possible. This normally shows up as diffuse thinning without the usual patterned hair loss progression.
@@letsgethairHello. Which Norwood were you before your first hair transplant ?
Post the numbers, what was your level of vitamin D before, and after.
@@dragosxtc1901 I cant say what it is now since I haven't had recent bloodtests but I was at 26ml before I got on supplements. Anything under 30ml is considered Vitiman D deficient. Its a slow and steady recovery but this last haircut I went short to check my progress and noticed it looks fuller. I have lots of small white hairs where I originally thought it was receding.
right, but that's not gonna cause male pattern baldness, that might just cause hair thinning due to a vitamin deficiency. That's going to be diffuse and not in the typical Norwood pattern.
i went on Topical Finasteride for 8 months and lost almost previous 1 years progress. now i am back on dutasteride for last 2 months and my hair finally starting to grow longer again. i would Topical Finasteride for slow baldness progression like when you are 35y+
This video helped me a lot as well. Same situation. Once I stopped topical and went oral with foam, dramatic improvement

any side effects? I'm starting to take oral finasteride 1.1 mg and oral minoxidil 3mg daily through hims chews
@@super_heroes1 mg is too much lower your doses 0.5 is more than enough
Just wanted to comment about my experience: I have tried finasteride for the first time in February this year, I've been using it crushed with minoxidil, equivalent to 0.25mg per day (3 tablets of 5mg dissolved in 60ml of minoxidil). Before finasteride I was on saw palmetto supplements, and my hair was slowly getting worse, so I've decided to switch to finasteride. Over the past 5 months, my hair got worse than the base point when I started. I thought to myself that the dosage was too low, so I've decided to bump it up to applying it twice per day, thus making it like 0.5mg per day, applied topically. So far it's been around 3 weeks, and I can say that my hair did get thicker a bit. I have 0 side effects so far. I will continue applying it like this until December, when hopefully I'll get my hair transplant. Then after seeing the results of this current dosage for that period, I will consult with the doctor to stay on it, or possibly bump it even higher, equivalent to 1mg per day,.
The only concentration approved for topical finasteride is 0.1% in India. It is usually sold combined with 5% minoxidil solution. The recommended dosage is 1ml, which equates to 1mg of finasteride.
Do you think 1mg a day can give you more hair count than your actual dosage of 0,5 mg/day? There are doctors on the internet that recommend 0.5 and others who say 0.5 can't work and they don't know much cases that reached goals with that dose. Im very confused now.
Just FYI, I do .5 mg four days a week and it works perfect, very little side effects
I just dissolve my 5mg fin into vodka or similar liquor and dose with a dropper. I make it so I have 1mg per ml, so 50mg into a 50ml amount of vodka. Fin is stable even in water for up to 90 days so I have no concerns with it degrading.
Did you not consider increasing your topical dosage before going back to the tablet?
No I did not want to lose time and hair. Wanted to come back to something that I know will work for me, regain hair and try to increase my topical dosage later on.
Matt,
Love the channel. You said that you were trying to minimize side effects. Mainly mental ones. What mental sides did you get? Any info is much appreciated.

Thank you so much for this video. Are you switching now to 0.5 mg oral fin. every other day or everyday? I didn’t understand what are the dosage of your last 4 month.
Every day this time
The main question is: "where to buy Topical Fin?". At the moment I'm buying from the same clinic where I got my transplant here in Ireland but for 3 bottles with 5%Minoxidil and 0.25%Fin I'm paying €250. It's an actual robbery
I got mine from an online pharmacy called Oxford
@@PeterBellUK thanks a million man, I see now it's out of stock but I'll keep an eye on it.
Hope they deliver in Ireland though.
Thanks again
Oral is the best imo. What I do is take it 3 months, 3x a week 1mg. Then I take a 2 week break just to get rid of the residual Finasteride.
Just started with 3x 1mg a week too.
My balls ache a bit so far.
Do you have any sides so far and how long are you doing that? Think this approach should minimise the risk...
What happens as men age for the body to start breaking down testosterone and therefore increasing DHT? When men are young (late teens to 20s) they have the most testosterone they'll ever have but almost no one goes bald at this stage of their life.
I have been using topical fin ever since my hair transplant in 2023. I started at 0.025% had no sides so i increased to 0.05% may increase to 0.075% at some point but will not exceed 0.1%. Its very easy to dilute the commercially available 0.3% fin with minoxidil using only Kirkland minoxidil. For example 30 ml of 0.3% fin + min with 60ml 5% minoxidil gives a concentration of 0.1% fin and 5% min. 10 ml of that mixed with another 10ml of 5% min will make 0.05%.
I believe finasteride from the crushed pills aren't completely dissolved in the solution, even if you crush them very fine some finasteride particles stays trapped inside the bulking agent, personally i increase concentration by 25~30% (just an arbitrary number) as a compensation.
Can you elaborate on the manufacturer and formulation of the solution
oral is hands down the gold standard for hair loss and nothing beats it beside dutasteride
to be honest i'm not even sure duta would beat it, since studies observed a reduction of 50% in the scalp, which is pretty much what you should get with topical Fin at 0,025%. The game changer here being the serum DHT being nuked by 90% with oral duta, and 20 something % with topical fin. feels like a no brainer on paper.
Thank you for this video. I have already had one hair transplant and I was not on finasteride and started losing my hair again and the crown area was thinking of doing topical fin but had this same concern I wasn’t sure if it was going to be as effective as oral. I am still very confused about what to do because my hair transplant isn’t that bad but definitely looks more sparse.
Hi I want to save my hairline, but unfortunately fell into the dark rabbit hole of all the stories online and now feel bad trying it.... My question is can I take things very slowly to mitigate side effects for example.... starting with saw palmetto, then changing to topical fin, then eventually changing to 0.5mg every other day, to changing to 0.5mg everyday etc...... to slowly see if my body responds well. Also are there any long term effects of this drug? like could you develop something nasty 20 years from now taking it
The shape of your sperm can change permanently and your sperm count will decrease during the period of time while on the drug. They found that the penis size of mice get smaller when they use the drug for periods of time but take that with a grain of salt because mice are different than humans. Definitely start slow and get sperm tests every other week before increasing the dose if you're concern.
@@charliekelly735lol what are you talking about😂😂😂😂 you made my day
I did 0.025% with a solution that already include 5% of minoxidil for like 8 months after I had transplant. So far I’m doing great. After seeing this video I’m thinking to increase to 0.05% or maybe even 0.1%. Any suggestions?

going trough all your videos except transplant ones and so far thank you for everything
how soon after applying topical finasteride did you shower or sweat? while i’m no expert, i think these factors matters when using topicals. Instead of PG, I use a version with glycerin which absorbs more slowly. so i use it after waking up & wash before bed. this maximizes time on scalp & washing before bed eliminates worry about the solution transferring to my pillow/face/partner. i’m happy with my results & am thinking of testing going from 0.025 to 0.015.
Very informative video😊
0.025% should be equivalent to 0.25mg of finasteride in whole bottle, consider 0.2% which is around 2 mg finasteride in whole bottle
my is 0.1% on whole bottle with minoxidil 5%. I have realy good results and not side effects during 3 years.
less than 30% of topical fin is actually absorbed the rest evaporates away or just stays on the scalp.
I tried to go back and watch some of your older videos and it looks like you switched a few times from oral to topical. Just curious as to why you didn't stick with one or the other and continue to lower the dose until one worked for you

I think the right dose is 0,25 . That’s 10 times higher .
Once you said that 0,25 is equal to 2,5 mg oral . I dont think this is correct
My tropical finasteride is 0.1% but the presenter advised me it was too high a few years ago.
@@swayp5715 i think that topical 0,25 mg/ml is equivalent of 0,25 mg orally plus we dont really know how much of it can be absorbed by the skin also some of it goes to hair not to the skin.
For finasteride i have seen studies that show 0,25 fin is the best dosage cause it hasnt any side effects at all..but you need to have in your mind that fin’s absorption is much easier than duta cause of the molecular size difference
But
0.25=2.5mg - that was correct. 0.025 is definitely a low dose but on paper it was supposed to work. I’m not saying it didn’t work but it was certainly inferior compared to even micro dosing oral f.

Topical solution(foam)*
I thought you switched to topical dutasteride due to side effects from finasteride?
There will be always side effects with oral and topical ones, right?
5:38 0.025% Finasteride is 10 times lower than the standard topical dosage of 2.275mg/ml or 0.2275% (based on popular Caretopic brand sold in Italy, they are usually more conservative with dosages). I bet that's why you didn't see results.
The study showed similar results to oral at 6 months
2.27 mg per day is nut though. It's like putting a pill of 2.27 mg on your head, your serum dht will get nuked same as oral, would rather go for oral in that case. Scalp dht is vastly reduced at 0,025% with a very limited reduction in serum DHT (20%)
@@pierremoulin4758 2.27 mg topical is not the same as a pill. a lot of it is wasted until it gets to the liver...
what topical finasteride are you using?
*Is it possible for Norwood 6 to get a hair transplant if they have a good donor area?*
I’m asking because I’m 24 and already a Norwood 2. I want to get a hair transplant in the future but I DO NOT want to take finasteride. The risk of side effects and PFS isn’t personally worth it to me.
The worst case of androgenetic alopecia in my family was my maternal grandfather who was eventually a Norwood 6 by age 60. So worst case scenario I could get there too and I’m just hoping 2 hair transplants could give me decent coverage for that.
why not increase the topical strength? You started on the lowest dose...IMO its better to increase topical whilst testing serum DHT. Many people say topical Dutasteride has less side effects also...
Is the brand of finasteride that I’m taking important I asked because I was taking the namebrand. I felt like I had better results. I also live in Texas by the way.

Similar experience to me. Was on oral finasteride on and off for 1.5 years but stopped due to sides. Went on a 0.05% topical finasteride and have been on that for 2 years but I have lost ground and my hair is a lot thinner. I’ve added in oral minoxidil and I’m now considering topical/oral dutasteride but starting to run out of options !
exosomes worked well for me
I guess the dosage 0,05 is to low. The recommended dosage is 0,3 per day. Also its better with minoxidil and microneedling.
Matt - I use topical fin at 1%, do you think it's too high? And why eventually?
It is a liposomal gel solution right? In such a case it is common to use a higher concentration because it doesn’t absorb as rapidly unlike the hydroalcoholic or trichosol bases. I suggest people to try liposomal if they can but you need prescription, it is more expensive and I hated using it in diffuse thinning or if you have thick hair. If you plan on using it on a small localised area, then it is worth a try.
@@letsgethair No, it's actually a liquid solution, hydroalcoholic.. so would you consider 1% too high in this case? But could you please explain why, since I don't totally get it. 1% would be 10 milligrams per ml, as an equivalent. So roughtly 10x the amount of a daily Propecia pill I guess. But since this is topical so going less in the blood stream, wouldn't 10x justified, compared to pill form?..
The indian doctor was right, topical solution is not efficient. I used topical ditasteride and lost ground even further, then switched to oral finasteride 1 mg every other day and finally got improvements and no serious side effects. So from my experience, and as seen is this video, topical fin or dut is not efficient, you just lose precious time and hair that never gets back.
Topical Finasteride works but I would need a higher concentration. 0.025 could work on a smaller localised area. Topical dutasteride is a bit different because it’s heavy molecular weight restricts it from being properly absorbed topically (unless you utilise micro needling)
@@letsgethairIf topical finasteride works why you didn't stay on it and increased the dosage to 0.25% ?
@@letsgethairwhat systemic DHT reduction could be expected of 0.05 once per day do you think? And how are you so sure topical fin works? One Spanish surgeon told me he didn't believe in it at all.

You might be OK for a year or 2 but after that it hit me bad, side effects of Duasteride are low testosterone, erectile dysfunction, no interest in sex even if you did you couldn't perform, slight depression, you could see women walking around naked or in skimpy Bikinis and it wouldn't interest you, it's like you become emotionally numb also. Some say no problems! On here but they're a lucky few in the minority or on an extremely low dose. I take it for my prostate otherwise I'd dump it in the bin.
Yes mate I am changing from being on fin to dut after using fin for 30 years so hope this helps. Based on the medical research dutasteride has less side effects than fin and works much better. I am in transition (titrating from fin to dut) and no issues. Looking forward to more growth. I also take a natural aromatase inhibitor - high strength grape see extract. Lowering DHT more is not the issue that causes sides but the extra testosterone can convert to estrogen and throw out your testostetone to estrogen ratios temporarily which can cause sexual sides. The aromatase inhibitor will help balance yout T To E ratios. Only issue with Dut us half life is 5 weeks so if you do have sides it can take some time for them to go away. In the medical research only about 1% had sexual sides. I would also look at adding sublingual minoxidil to further assist as sublingual bypasses the liver and has less sides than oral. From my experience everything else is pretty much B.S.
Side effects because of placebo effect in early 2000's , people took 0.5 mg dutasteride and had no side effects 😅 but this 1 mg finasteride causing side effects 😂 , an unhealthy lifestyle or any deficiency causes side effects and we blame on medication 💊 .

Guys you want me to be honest? Yes, propercia and finasterine works BUT you should not take it if you are an active male (and by active i mean, someone who actually wants to f@ck someone, man or woman). My personal experience was very bad with propercia, it even gave me psychological issues from not being able to get it up for 2-3 years after discontinuing it, and even till today may have these issues, plus it also gave me a bit of gynaecomastia and had to have a surgery.. I have some gay friends on the passive site and they don't mind talking it and it gives very good results I admit. So you have to weight it down on your own..

I experienced tremendous success with Finasteride being on it almost two years but couldn't tolerate the cognitive decline, constantly mincing words and a reduced ability to structure a sequence of thought and figured I would try my hand at topical that I began two months ago. That's why Im here, I know there's an initial shedding period but it soons subsides. Have yet to see that tapering effect since beginning topical. Just a slow and continuous decline in volume. I feel like God is involved here. Is your vanity worth sounding like a babbling incoherent moron? Sucks I have to choose between looking presentable or sounding unintelligible.
BRO DOES FINASTERIDE CAUSE FATTY LIVER. 😢
No
Fatty liver is cause by sugar, carbs or alcohol
@@jonathanmicday1620 but finasteride affects liver, stops some hormones doesn't that cause fatty liver. I remember reading some article about it🤔
may be Matt can do Liver function test and prove to us finasteride doesn't impact liver 🙏
@@mrvro4404 I get sides from fin and it messes up my hormonal profile. But I had liver checked and it was fine
People who don't use oral fin: ' I tried it. It gave me side effects, so I stopped.
People who do use oral fin: 'I've been using it for months. No side effects.... other than loss of libido' 😂😂😂
I’ve been using it for 3 years and I don’t have any problems with libido
Guys, is it ok for me to buy Proscar 5mg and divide it into 5? Is it also effective? I don't have much fund so
Yes that is fine and I did it for years.
You have to divide into 4 unless you crush and weigh it every day
Is Finarid brand also alright?

Does anyone suffer from scalp stiffness and occasional painful bumps on the thinning areas? Specially on the leading edge of balding areas?
Topical Finasteride is one of the stupidest things to have happened to the hairloss industry, it works by going SYSTEMIC.
I don’t know if it’s that stupid there are people who are having great success with just the topical everyone’s body is just different. It seems like tropical is a great option for those that can use it. It also does not go as systemic
DHT is a PARACRINE hormone, go studying!
A lot of sides are due to you lowering testosterone with messing about with drugs.
Lol, fin increases testosterone, google it..
