As a wood worker myself, I had a very peaceful feeling when I saw your shop setup. Many great things will happen there.
I just moved into a 1910 Craftsman in Quincy north of you guys. Your videos have really inspired me to do as much work on this house as possible by myself! My house is definitely not as rough as yours, but there is still plenty of work to do…my family thinks I’m a little crazy for wanting to do things like skim coating plaster and refinishing wood myself!
Will you be fixing it up to look like the original, or will you be fixing it up to suit your tastes? Either way its a great undertaking and I applaud you! 👏🎉
@@heartsDmisea little bit of both! The house has a lot of original woodwork that I am going to refinish, but I am also going to finish the attic space into a master suite, redesign the closets, and some other smaller things. I just finished redoing the kitchen which was in desperate need of a redesign. I am definitely going to need to find a good source of wood to recut some of the more damaged moldings and also fix some spots in the floor!
Kaleb, word of caution… if you haven’t already, make sure your property is zoned for commercial/manufacturing, etc. so there’s no hiccups when beginning your business. Love your enthusiasm
This comment could only come from 'the land of the free'...
I agree. And, it needs to be soundproof so the neighbors won't be annoyed by the noise and complain.
She makes a very good point. It's pathetic that the government is so damn controlling and have no problem crushing peoples dreams over pathetically unnecessary zoning laws, but you definitely need to take her advice and be sure everything is good with all that. If you own it and it's not hurting anyone or anything, then it really doesn't matter, but the government isn't very reasonable, so it's definitely worth checking. Love what you've done with the place so far.
I just love the sound of old machinery. I have a 122 years old Singer Hand Crank Sewing Machine and I just love using it for the smooth sewing and the sound. 🥰
Kaleb your passion for the house and the machines is fantastic don’t ever stop😊
Kaleb, sure have missed you. All your fans love seeing what you have done, we just miss you when you don't vlog. Stay safe.
One semester at college “Women in Trades and Technology” I was given the opportunity to use a lathe and absolutely enjoyed the whole process of making my project (candle holder) measuring out the item. You are so lucky to have your own lathe and use your talents to turn out many projects.
We are here to follow you, not big feats. Your craftsman ship and love of your home is inspiring. Hope you have a wonderful trip.
Happy to see you are getting a place set up to work in :))) Your getting there little by little. Perseverance!
Firstly, congratulations on collecting the rest of that fantastic historic woodworking shop!! You are doing a great thing, keeping it all together and using it. Putting your story out on CZcams means Mr. Brown and his legacy live on. Who knows, you may find a local retired woodworker willing to give you some pointers. My paternal grandfather was apprenticed as a cabinetmaker in England in 1917, and after moving to California in 1925, ended his career teaching furniture making in Adult School in Los Angeles in the early 1960s. A well known actress at the time took his class and her chair was put on display at a fancy Hollywood shop. He got his picture in the newspaper and everything, lol. I laughed when I saw the chair at your workbench!! Granddad had two like that; he'd picked up dining chairs with broken backs cheap (or free), cut them down and re-attached the fancy tops to the seats. I adore your fancy black iron levels!! I cheer you on with your energy and inspiration to follow this new path. A man-cave full of machines, and many things to fix and make should keep you happy forever. I've read that people who relax by working on hobbies and creating things live longer. Be safe in Mexico!! Nos vemos!
It's so important to have hobbies and things to make and tinker with, it brings me great joy too!
Omg I was so excited when I saw you drilling a piece of wood with one of your machines ! ... I absolutely love all those incredible pieces of machinery, I think it's partly because I love to know how things work, and you can see it with such tools... beautiful bits of metal ! ... the sound of it working 🎉 wow... just love love love it ❤.
Have a wonderful trip. Mexico sounds nice 🙂
Video your trial and error with the new machines. That way we can watch the progress and appreciate when you do something beautiful. I personally enjoy watching progression projects.
I love the way this channel has evolved. From restoring a house to how the machines work that were originally used to build a house. I love it and have learned so much. All of it is interesting to me. Thanks for sharing your passion!
If you want to learn more about how line shafts work, you should check out the East Broad Top Railroad in Rockhill, PA.
They have a completely intact late 19th/early 20th century machine shop complex, complete with boilers, stationary steam engine, and line shafts powering all kinds of belt driven machines.
They’re in the process of restoring and realigning the shafts so they can start running individual machines off the steam engine. They may have some tips they may be willing to share!
Calab, your passion, drive and enthusiasm for your house and the restoration of homes/ St.Louis had been a joy to watch and be part of! Thank you!❤😊
My husband was a machinist, and he was always adamant that keeping those tools oiled up is the best way to care for them. Put some good machine oil on them and rub it in with an old towel or rag. With the machines in the basement, it will ward of rust.
This video made me excited for you and for your future! Indeed, I can easily see a day when you will have your Hall and Brown working Museum sitting out back and up and running. Not only will you have the house and shop open to tours on weekends and/or request, you can have classes of industrial art students from the St. Louis area technical high schools take tours during the school year to learn about the history of carpentry, St Louis and the companies that built her. You can inspire and instill your deeply felt loves in these up and coming generations. May all these dreams come true for you, Kaleb!
What a dream wood shop! I totally get why it’s your happy place. Try picking up a cheap pine 2x2 to practice your turning of spindles. I enjoy whatever you’re doing. Keep it up!
What a big job moving the tools from WI, but now you have a functional workshop. It was time well spent and a job well done. Safe travels.
A week well spent, praying for safety as you go to Mexico.
We had a lathe like that, with a motor for the belt drive. It was set up to swing eight feet of wood on centers. Be careful! That is a lot of heavy word it can sling if not fastened well before spinning!
Been following since the beginning. Such a great channel and life! Congrats on all you've accomplished. I take youtube breaks then come back and I'm always amazed what you two are up to!
You haven't posted a video in a couple weeks. Makes me wonder if everyone is OK. How you guys doing? You OK?
Kaleb had to go to Mexico for a couple weeks to do some work for a tv production in Kim’s stead. She doesn’t like flying or something like that. 3:05
Dude! I don't know why it took me this long to tell you about this...BUT, there is a super cool museum in Nebraska City called the Kriegel Windmill Museum. It is a workshop frozen in time, just as the last employee left it on his last day. You'd absolutely love it.
If you and Kim go, go see Arbor Lodge too, and the Lied Lodge, and have some wine and produce at Kimmel Orchard. 🎉🎉🎉
Well I hope you enjoy Mexico. You two have a great week.❤
Your workroom is bring back wonderful memories of my great grandfather and grandfathers basement workrooms. They were both master tool and die makers and had many specific machines for that purpose. Thank you for that nostalgia
I want to compliment you! I am not interested in machines, but your passion for them makes it interesting! 🎉
it's true, i don't care much about the machines BUT I DO LOVE YOUR LOVE FOR IT. it makes me appreciate woodwork soooo much more. truly amazed by all this.
I am Fascinated by these videos on machinery Caleb!
We will still be here waiting for the next installment... Have fun and be safe 😊❤
Whatever pace you are proceeding with, we will be with you.
I'm so happy to see you setting up shop! Something about your passion for restoration touches my heart. I hope you enjoy a long career of doing work that you love. You deserve only the best. Enjoy Mexico!
Nice drill press, the lack of safety features is excellent.
If you think you might loose a finger DONT use it. 🤣🤣
I love those old levels!
*Kia ora (hello) Kaleb, it maybe a work time away.... but also take time out for you too. Thanks for the tour of the workshop area.... yep when you have all the tools working it will make life a lot easier for you & Kim renovating... plus word will travel and you will also get lots of jobs to do for others doing up their historical homes. See you when you get back...*
Well done, Kaleb! Can't wait to see more machinery!
Looks as though your machinery shop is developing nicely!
A life involved in preservation is a rewarding life. It is a good life. I am a historic trades preservationist and old house lover. Any old structure has value to me. Most any old tool has value. I know where you are headed, Caleb. It is a good life.

The Mini shop is awesome! Great video and that patina on the work bench!!! *chef's kiss*
I love antique tools. I have a collection of old hand tools which i use.
I've been enjoying all the videos. I'm looking forward to more videos.
Thanks for the tour of your mini-shop - its great to see a few of the machines and how they work!
thanks for sharing your joyful journey!!!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I had actually been wanting to see the machinery again for a while now. I love to see them! I also love to see you so excited and passionate about such a fantastic journey! Blessings to you, your lovely family, and last but not least, your soon-to-be restored magnificent home! :D
Nice basement shop. well done.
dude you don’t need to justify your decisions or whatever it is with this basement. your whole lifestyle and hobby and interests are all so fascinating and we just wanna see you vibe and tinker around with shit and see you restore the house and figure life out. have fun in mexico and keep doing you
Kaleb you are truly blessed!!
So much enjoy your tool videos and how they work, so interesting how things were done in years before!
Can't wait to see the great stuff you make on those old machines.
A lot of these items my grandfather had. He did all the work in his own home which was just beautiful. To bad today it's has been demolished. Petty soon you will have your home completed. Good luck. I can't wait to see the final progress. Love to you and Kim.💕
Very cool. All of it necessary to the building and preservation of the house. And beautiful in its own right.
Your shop so reminds me of my Grandfather's shop in Dayton, Ohio. I loved the smell of the woods , the oil and the leather. I learned to turn posts on his belt driven lathe as a young girl. I recommend sharp tools and practice on something you are not too invested in! Try to enjoy Mexico and fly carefully!
You have a nice trip. Here's hoping all goes well. Thanks for showing us some more of
your new goodies. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🌺
Do what you have to do.Don't worry about what anyone thinks.Have a safe trip and we will see you soon.
Thank you for your throwaway week it was very interesting 🤗👍
Love Sue ❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
A lot of small steps leads to big things 👍
Awesome video Caleb follow your dreams brother don't listen to any of us!!✌️🇺🇲
love the passion you have for restoration
WOW what a great collection of old tools and machinery.😮. So very interesting but glad the mansford roof and the tuck pointing are still on the table. Winter is coming, outside projects need to get done for 2023, just saying...😮 Have a safe trip to Mexico. Go figure, I'll be in Saint Louis while you're gone to see the Chihuly at the Botanical Gardens. Dave & Buster's Friday. 😃
I love old machinery n watch how they work. It takes some talent to use a lathe n I know you’ve got some of that talent. I’m fascinated at watching people using them. There so cool. Happy to see your getting your work shop in oder. I bet you could spend hours n hours working on them n being happy doing so.
Have a safe trip to Mexico n we’ll see ya when you get back.
♥️♥️😊👍👍🌟🌟
How exciting!
Have a safe trio to Mexico Caleb! Your cellar workshop is looking real good!
Congratulations on the mini shop. I am sure great stuff will emerge from there.
And good luck in Mexico. That you find some friends and find some time to enjoy yourself.
If your not learning something new every day, you're not living life. Making mistakes is a part of learning new things. Very nice collection of tools!
Enjoy your vacation in Mexico. I recently went on vaction in July, myself and traveled 5,200 miles driving across America twice and from Virginia to first stop: New Mexico, 2nd stop: Yellowstine Park, 3rd stop: Bonniville salt lake flats, 4th stop: back to my girl friends home in New Mexico to go to the small town where the T.V. series Breaking Bad was made. Then rested for to days before going back to Virginia.
So happy for you and all of your accomplishments I think it’s all very awesome😊
The more you get the machines running the more you can learn and the more you can sell your abilities as you learn them.
Awesome Caleb!!❤❤
This was a great video. Any information to us that you explain works for me.👍🏻
I Hope you are going to leave some of the walls raw bricks. I think it looks beautiful with the masjiens in the foreground 🎉 Don't give up! 😊
Enjoyed this video very much (as always). No need to apologize since it is always nice to hear from you on CZcams.
You guys have a great work/ vacation 😊
Thanks for the video!
A major "Smilestone" as well. 😁 Best wishes and have a safe trip. Prayers for you and Kim. John here, from the back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee.
For the lathe, you should look around and see if there is a Wood Turning Association near you. There is one up where I live in Minnesota and they offer tons of classes for very, very cheap to teach people the basics of wood turning and how to do it safely since it is such a dangerous tool. Could be a great resource if one exists by you.
Phobias, like the fear of flying, can be cured but it takes someone who specializes in phobias as well as a great intent to be cured. Very well worth it....especially if your health insurance covers it. You may have explored the possibilities....😱...it will take commitment to do some deep exploration within your psyche.....
Looking good!
Wow that is so nice and very exciting!
Have a safe trip.
That's very cool, good for you. I love the story and it's all really impressive. CHEERS!
That is wonderful that you have found your passion and you can build it up to make a living from it. You will likely be very successful because you love doing it and you will naturally put a lot of effort into everything you do (which you already do) and it really doesn't seem like work. It is really great to see a younger person stepping up to preserve the old ways of doing things to not only preserve the material items but also to preserve the old skills and methods that would otherwise be lost to society. Thank you!
VERY AWESOME!!!!
Thats fantastic Kaleb!
I thought this was a neat look into the other side of the restauration. We have seen the "rough stuff" with painting, plastering, mortaring and all that. But this "fine stuff" will be as important in the long run...
I am so very happy you have found your passion. People search all their lives for their passion. Thank you for taking us along with your journey! My daughter is also afraid of flying so Kim I get it!
Are you kidding me? This is thee most exciting episode you've put out yet for me! I'm thrilled about the new shop, the tools, belts ..everything about it! When you talked about the sounds of the belts slapping, the smell of the machines the spinning of the old tools whirling away, I got nostalgic and excited like you kaleb..a true hall and brown man cave , the old girl has another heart beating and she's smiling down on you with my Brown ! Enjoy your trip , ill be patiently waiting for another shop video, wooohoo!!!😁👌💯💫💥
Kaleb, I love all your content. Post and I'll watch
Aman who doesn't make mistakes does nothing.
I like that!
It actually is supposed to be said " a man who doesn't make mistakes doesn't learn" ...you were close though😉✌️
I really enjoyed seeing your woodworking set up. Looking forward to seeing its evolution into your dream shop. Safe travels!
Yay! You're back
Be safe kaleb with this crazy weather .💕
Beautiful lathe! You can do so much with it.
Dude, where have you been???? Been waiting for the new video. XD
I love what you are doing and will do in the future. I will say that Mr. Brown will be so impressed by your interest in all his works and inventionsthat he may want to visit sometimes .Pleaase let your viewers know if you have felt Mr. Brown's presence as there are many of us that do believe in the paranormal. Please stay safe and enjoy your trip.
Looks good
Your passion for what you do is so inspiring!
I love to pop in, checking your videos to see what your up to.
Wish you a safe trip to Mexico! 💜💛💚❤💙🧡
Glad the remaining tools were successfully acquired. Hope you have a safe trip to Mexico! Never seen a line shaft up and working before. Can’t wait to see you get yours fully operational.
So amazing you are acquiring the H&B machines. Once in a lifetime opportunity. The roof will wait for you! Like your workbench a lot. 😘
That is a really pretty little test shop.
A shop is a type of man cave.
Once the shop is set up you can teach woodworking classes and make a little bit of money.
Most interesting tool video you have made
