  • How I create my Northern Lights. Please be kind. Tutorials aren't in my wheelhouse and I only do them every so often.
    I am using quick dry oils. You can find them online on blick.com. Colors I am using are prussian blue, a medium green/blue like veridian green, light green, white, and paynes gray for the trees. The brushes are from Princeton brush. I use all the Oval mop brush sizes and the mini fan brush 20/0. You will want an oil medium to loosen your oils. There is lots of information about oil paint mediums online. Find the one that suits your needs best. Some extend the drying time, while others shorten it.
    This tutorial does not work well for other mediums like acrylics. Oils work because they stay wet longer.

    I think many of us have now learned that yes, you can see lights while seeing the northern lights!

    Great tutorial! I see the northern lights where I live and photograph them and you can definitely see stars when the lights are out, not as many as a new moon but you can still see them. I'm excited to try this tutorial.

    Wow this is gorgeous! I appreciated seeing your process how you created the northern lights.. I tried painting one myself a couple months ago that is a little different (totally an experiment and I am a total novice when it comes to painting) and had so much fun with it! I wanted to do it again but on a bigger canvas and slightly different from my first one. Hope to see more of your videos, you are a gifted artist! 😊

      There are slow drying acrylics out there and mediums you can use to lengthen that drying time as well. Find them and use small canvases or painting paper to practice. Would probably be best if you just used oils tho.

    I just paint with acrylics for fun. I’ve wanted to get into oil painting but the fire risks and having to dispose of your chemicals just doesn’t appeal to me. Are quick drying oils like this any easier for new oil painters? Do you have any introductory materials you recommend?

    • @jkreyes2
      @jkreyes2 Před 2 lety

      You may want to try water soluble oil paints, no paint thinner required. You just use water to thin the paint.
