    Really good list ;). Let me add a few more games to consider:
    1. Ra (probably my fav bidding game of all time)
    2. Goa (Rudiger Dorn's best design)
    3. For Sale (this is a super light filler, but works great for 3-4 players)
    4. Nidavellir (it's suprisingly good)
    5. Cyclades (GREAT auction mechanic, although it's very confrontational)

    One favorite is Nefertiti. Three simultaneous auctions, which you make bids in via worker placement. Each auction has its own condition that will end it, like total value of bids or 3 workers placed in a line. And I've told you before about Karesansui but I can't not say it now

    Barely wrote the Patreon comment yesterday when there was a new Top 10 popping up, nice!
    I guess this is a genre I have to look into. None of these games are part of my collection :-D
    Not even a games with Princes in it I guess, haha.
    So the only auction games I got here are Isle of Skye and El Grande - if they even qualify, but they got the mechanism listed on BGG at least. Both good games.

      There are a lot of great games here, both games that feels like auction games, and ones with more of a bidding thing going on. If there are some of them you are more interested in, and want to know more, just let me know :D
      I have only played El Grande once, and it wasn’t for me, haha! Isle of Sky is great, but I wouldn’t really put it on this list!

      @@BoardGamingRamblings No hurries! :D
      I mean Rurik looks pretty interesting, but very hard to acquire from what I've seen. Especially as I don't want the deluxe with miniatures.
      Interesting though seeing Princes of Florence so high up, whilst El Grande also by Wolfgang Kramer wasn't for you! I think I will set a reminder and see if I can get a cheap second hand version to try that out as well.
      What I still don't really understand after the video is how you managed to rank the more or less plain auction games like Medici, Biblios, Pappy, QE, ... and why somebody would need more than one of those? Seems to be all the same process in your brain and the same way to play it.

  • @m-sousa
    @m-sousa Před 3 lety +1

    I am a bit on boat with Sunnima on this matter of auction games. Puro auction games, I can enjoy them if they are quick and some kind of funny (High Society is a nice example). If they are too psychological (I mean trying to get into each other minds) and long I get really behind. I feel like everyone can read me and I can't read anyone else ahaha A bit of an exception is Power Grid I guess
    I am really curious to try Rurik: Dawn of Kiev and Q.E.
    Have you tried The Estates, Don (also called Serengeti) and Taj Mahal? The first two ones were nice and entertaining surprises for me, which a lot of laugh during game. Taj Mahal is probably my 2nd or 3rd favourite Knizia game, it is really great. But I have only played it 4p, so I have no idea how it works with more or fewer players.
    I like your lists. NICE!
    And happy new year!!

    • @BoardGamingRamblings
      @BoardGamingRamblings  Před 3 lety

      Taj Mahal is standing on the shelves here, just needs players to play, and time when we don’t need to play other games 😱 Really want to try it soon! The Estates was too mean for us, and have not played the last one!
      Thank you for watching, glad you liked the list!

    • @m-sousa
      @m-sousa Před 3 lety +1

      @@BoardGamingRamblings Don was a surprise for me how funny and quick it was. It works great as a 3p game, so you just need an extra person to play it. It's a close economy biding (like Estates).
      Talking about that one: yep, Estates can be really mean. I tend to stay away from that too, but in Estates we just laugh how everyone tries to screw each other. Is weird, I can't explain why it works when so many others don't.
      You need to push Taj Mahal up on the priorities list

  • @Naledgeizpwr
    @Naledgeizpwr Před 3 lety +1

    I am a big fan of auction games, they can have problems when the design lazily adds them as a way to let the players balance the game. But when they are implemented well, it is an excellent way to add interaction. There are many great auctions designs I could name, but I will throw out a lesser known Knizia title, Orongo. While it is not his best auction design, it is unique, and one that not enough people play.

    I’m very surprised that Ra didn’t make the list. It’s the first game I think of when I think of auctions. Other games that would be on my list include: Goa, Amun-Re, and Homesteaders. The first edition of Evo is a fun lighter-weight, but heavily confrontational auction and dinos-on-a-map game.
    I really like Age of Steam and Power Grid, but don’t really think of them as auction games, despite the auction being so important in both of them. I also like Keyflower, but the auctions get out of hand when the player count goes above four.
