Alex, yow, I was interested in why VW and your journey because I was like: WHAT? VW? Noooo. I had to stop the video at Land of Smiles. Yes, here it is at the very start of maybe an EV revolution in 5 years because Thailand is the land of the gas stations. I really hope that you get an honest handler, you need one because English here is "no have" and don't get F-ed over so that you can keep your sanity and some optimism in life and people. Honestly, after 13 years living in Thailand, it might be a different kind of different than you are looking for.

However that, indeed, it would be a good opportunity to make some less known cars to the world. Or, maybe he thinks that his audience is not really interested in news about cars that the audience cannot actually buy.

You seemed to have been satisfied with the Volts limited EV range, so after you find your new home territory, see if 40 miles is a range you can deal with on the Prius. The Prius model had already proven itself, so one isn't taking a big risk.

Alex, I will add another Chevy Volt positive experience to your database. I drove Chevy Volts for 5 years. I owned one of the first 2011 Volts built, and traded for a 2014. I loved every minute and have no complaints. Most people don't realize that the Volt offers a pure electric driving experience, with full WOT performance, until the battery reaches its minimum charge level. My first car had 35 miles and the second 38 miles. That was enough to do 99% of my in-town driving. On road trips it was convenient to use the gas range extender and fill up at any gas station. Fill ups were not expensive with the Volt's 9 US gallon tank.

Your video is spot on with Tesla. I also purchased my 1st T early on in 2014 and the service was really really good. They would literally come to my house try to fix my car and if they couldn’t fix it, they would take the car with them and bring it back to me looking like it had just gotten detailed. When you buy $130,000 car, this is the kind of service the company should provide. Now Tesla Service is so bad. You can’t call anybody. I’m lucky I have a service center fairly close to me and they’re nice enough down there but they always try to blame the issue on something else not the car. It’s hard to change because other options just weren’t available but I’m looking forward to more choices. I do have a very early reservation for the cyber truck and will take delivery of that. Hopefully that goes well. Thanks for the good videos always and the truth.

The unfortunate reality is that, at least here in the US, playing whack-a-mole with companies for being crappy and "waiting for them to get better" is a fool's errand. The profit model demanded by all MBAs today is a race to the bottom in the name of quarterly profits. The only deviation from that you'll see is when a start-up is burning investor money in the name of growth and building up a brand to later squeeze.
So, your best choices are either to get a car from a brand new start-up, accepting that you'll very likely get a dud but good customer service to get you through it, or get a later generation model where issues are less frequent. Avoid brand new platforms from established brands like the plague since those are the worst of both worlds.

Why be stuck with the VW Group or Tesla if you don't want to go back to brands that have disappointed you previously? Or you could wait for the Chevy Equinox to come out if you want to go back to a brand that HASN'T disappointed you? Then again, if you are moving to Thailand you now have access to some Chinese brands like MG, Ora, BYD etc.

  • @thenetworkarchitectchannel

Love the vid. As I just turned to my right and looked out the window, a white M3 drove by. All too common to see Tesla. Have to give credit where credit is due. If it were not for their EV leadership, it would of taken decades longer for EV adoption, not to mention the SC network which is being made avail to me as a Cadillac Lyriq & Volvo XC40 Recharge owner. Thx Tesla. However, I think the EV adoption rate is in an S curve that OEMs will capitalize on, stealing market share from Tesla who refuses to advertise. Also, they gave up their #1 competitive advantage (SC network access), leaving them with an austere motif to try to ride into the future with. Thx for sharing and making the vid. I enjoyed watching.

  • @IndigenousEarthling101

It seems like a lack of maturity has been the root cause of the problems resulting from both choices. Specifically, a lack of maturity of the respective BEV platforms and supporting services at the time each vehicle was purchased. By choosing to be an early adopter of new and unproven technology platforms, one assumes a greater probability of hardware and software problems and issues, in addition to greater uncertainty of support for repairs and replacement parts availability. Reliable, established, mass market BEVs like a Tesla Model Y, BYD Atto 3, or BYD Dolphin may not be novel, unique, or sexy, but are likely to be much more reliable and have better availability of repair service, replacement parts, and aftermarket accessories, than less mature platforms produced by less experienced and vertically integrated BEV OEMs.

  • @dennisu11

Alex You have been wrong on a lot of what you have said in the video. One of the worst is the fact that you have no idea on what a Volt is/was. It is not and has never been a hybrid. It is an extended range electric vehicle. The engine only supplies electricity to operate the electric motor that drives the car. There is no shifting transmission that would be required if the car actually used the onboard ICE for propulsion. It only has a permanently connected gearbox. As you stated almost all Volt owners are happy with the car as they discover it actually made sense. I have a 2012 Volt and would never give it up or sell it. It has over 175K kms and the battery range hasn't changed except for the amount that GM reduced from the range to make the battery last longer.

EQS is definitely luxurious and it drives really well. But comparing with the Tesla X that I’m driving I would 100% stay with Tesla. I had the EQS to try for 4 days and could not wait to get back to Tesla. The 2 big reasons I don’t like EQS are: the button to start the car with no engine is uselesss, annoying, comparing with Tesla where you get in the car and it’s ready to drive. The other huge mistake is, having a electric car I was happy to gain some space for storage, like the frunk, since there is no engine. But guess what, EQS has the hood sealed which means there is no hood to open nor any space to store anything. I would never spend money on such a bad designed car. But that is my opinion only.

I love how the car keeps improving with over-the-air software updates. Had to get the windshield replaced because of a rock chip and crack, and Tesla Service was excellent.
