the movie is actually probably the most middle-of-the-road thing dreamworks has made. Not outright bad or offensive, but otherwise nothing special or noteworthy either. It's entirely forgettable, but as we know Nick will gush about literally anything and it's adorable to listen to, so more power to him i guess

This film sure has divided amongst people. You name some of it's strengths, meanwhile 3 other CZcamsrs name why it's one of the worst animated films. And meanwhile I'm just having a good time watching this feel good film, with no care in the world what people think.
I don't get how people say it's a bad movie. It's well animated, it has a decent story, few moments where it panders, and a good soundtrack. What more do people want out of an animated movie?

Never forget, it is also the perfect representation of communism vs capitalism. The argument between the squirrel and the turtle perfectly encapsulates the divide and class conflicts of the bourgeise and the proletariat. On one side we have the squirrel, attempting to seize all the food for himself, that in which represents the means of production of the humans living in the suburb. On the other hand is the turtle, forcing him to return the food to the people, sharing their wealth instead of hoarding it for themselves. In the end, it is a never-ending struggle as they stand there, arguing forever.

If you ask me, the true villain was RJ himself. I mean come on, he stole all the bear's food, and yes then he actually collects all the food for the bear, but for doing so, he ruins a person's whole house and car!!? I know the woman did an illegal thing setting the animal traps, but that wouldn't happen if RJ hadn't ruined her life! And not only that, at the end he just doesn't give the food he collected to the bearrrr. So basically at the end, RJ has stolen all a bear's food, ruined a person's life (actually 2 people considering the verminator) and he's just happy and not giving shit.
but don't get me wrong, over the hedge is my favorite movie and I really love RJ. I just don't get some things about its story lol
