    Thank you so much for this video! My gf has lived in Cuenca for 9 years or so, I have visited her there 3 or 4 times. Problem now is that I have leg/knee/walking issues, is hard for me to get around. That being said, after watching your video, I would really love to visit her in Cuenca again! Taxi's are cheap there, trams would be easy for me to get on, same level as the street. And if she needed to push my butt up to get on bus, she would do that, lol! I would like to spend all my 2 weeks vacation there, taking photos and making videos., showing Cuenca as best I can. Don't need to go to Manta, don't need to go to Machala or Salinas, we have already done that. But your video has inspired me, thank you!

    • @TheXplorasDiary

      Tipping culture is not like it is in the US. From what I've gathered, it's not mandatory. You can pay exactly the amount for the service, and it wouldn't be unusual. However, some places may have a tipping jar that you can contribute to if you wish.

    Wow.. I am impressed. I have never seen a video on Equator. It looks like a peaceful and safe place to live. Can a 63-year-old single retire man live a simple, quiet life on a $1,000 a month budget in Equator? Including rent.

    • @javilpq3026
      @javilpq3026 Před 3 měsíci +4

      You can actually do it for less than 1000. But don't forget that Ecuador is not the same as US. And their traditions and way of living can be totally diferent. If you want to live a peacefull live you can totally do it with no problem. But spanish is the lenguaje that we talk here. Talking about money someone can live with 600 dollars. After all Ecuador is a dolarized economy, but is not a collony of the US. A lot of people from the US come to ecuador for his cheap prices and beauty. Anyway that's kinda what you asked. So well consider coming to live here, or just to try it, maybe Ecuador can have what you want or not.

    • @TheXplorasDiary
      @TheXplorasDiary  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I think you can. It all depends on your lifestyle and accommodation preferences.
      If you're looking for western standard accommodation with luxury/semi luxury finishes, you should budget for $500 - $700+ (rent prices seem to slowly be going up here in Cuenca)
      The produce at the market is also very affordable, and so cooking all your meals at home will save you a ton of money.
      However, if you're looking to really enjoy the city. I think increasing your budget to about $1500 per month would be ideal. This would give you the opportunity to go to all the lovely restaurants, rooftops, boutique hotels and nice places here, and to also travel around and explore Ecuador, as it's a very beautiful country.
      Truly it all depends on your lifestyle choices, and where in Ecuador you want to live. If you choose to live in the country side or a small town like Vilcabamba, then $1000 is enough for you to live a simple quiet life.
      However, if you want to like in a city like Cuenca and be able to enjoy all that it has to offer, then $1500 would be a sweet budget for one person.
      I hope this was helpful.

    Awesome Video!. I have visited Ecuador many years ago in 2000 to Guayaquil. The country had just Dollarized the economy in 2000. I have always wanted to return and visit other cities. It was very cheap back in 2000, I remember helping the citizens with the coins because they didn't know how much they were worth. Quarter, Nickels, dimes have no numerical number on the coin face, so it confused people. I think Ecuador minted their own coins now with a numerical number on them. Is it difficult to open an Ecuador bank account, and Do you get charged international ATM fees to withdraw money from Ecuador ATMs?

    • @TheXplorasDiary
      @TheXplorasDiary  Před 3 měsíci

      That's great to hear. I wonder how much Ecuador has changed since your last visit here. I think it's still relatively inexpensive compared to other countries, but inflation is a global problem so prices are still going up, especially when it comes to accommodation.
      It wasn't difficult to open a bank account, although I don't use it much. I still use my bank of america and take out cash from the Banco de Guayaquil for $1.50 but I the bank also charges $5.00. However, I've heard people with Charles Schwabb accounts don't pay the $5 charge. Hope this helps.

      @@TheXplorasDiary Thanks for responding. I guess I need to be more clear about the bank question. Were you able to open a bank account as a tourist who say, just wants to stay there a few months? I don't know if you are a temp. resident, but opening a bank account would eliminate all those pesky ATM fees you are paying. Those fees add up after time. .
