- WMATA put in new doors at the Fort Totten Metro Station to try and stop fare jumpers, but people are just pushing through the gates.
I've said it before and I'll say it again when there's no consequences people do whatever they want.
When things are needlessly expensive people will turn to crime.
It's like the people that design the s*** have no idea what it's supposed to be used for.
Why are their faces blurred out, shame them😅
There is no shame left in the world. That is the whole problem. They wouldn't be ashamed if you put the camera in their face. They would smile and say or do something stupid. Tell me I'm wrong.
Because MTA installed the wrong gates. The best gate to install is the old tall (human height) turnstile. There is no way anyone can penetrate that, except a one or two year old child.
Metro transit Police need to be at these fair evasion stations handing out tickets. This happens in Tysons Va as well I see it often than I care to.

3. I bet... Eventually someone will sue the WMATA for "not being able to evade the fare as easily as they used to".
4. Where is the security personnel? they should be giving tickets (at least).

6. With the amount of relief programs available... It is not that they cannot afford the ride, it is that they don't want to. Even without the reduced fares, it is really affordable.
7. On the weekend I saw someone crossing with a stolen scooter... This is really ridiculous.

a lot of countries have no gates at all and rely on ticket inspectors. it seems to work bc ppl are too scared of being caught

This is Fort Totten station, they tried putting plexi dividers in between them before they switched to these doors but then it just made it easier to grab onto and swing yourself over 😂

I disagree. It's not the fault of the designer but that of the patron. If they knew the purpose was to prevent fare evation then they should have thought twice to install the tall steel turnstile.
That's a shame they can't stop them not even crime pitiful they need to be locked up

You can bet that in the end, the secret reason for the $40 million contractor leaving such a wide gap, is spineless fear of litigation re: the nearly impossible chance that, if there were a disaster, not enough people could get out quickly enough during the mad rush. It's a great example of cowardly balancing the obvious social benefits of law enforcement, versus obsessing over a 0.0000000001% risk to ruin everything.

This is another example of swing doors not effective at preventing fare evasions involving violators slipping through the flexible gaps. #SFMTA in the past when they debut their new swing door fare gates from #CubicTS, violators already learned how to tailgate behind a paying rider and sneak through an open gate opened in opposite direction. #wmata needs sliding door gates similar to the ones currently used on #SkylineHNL, #TranvíaDeAyacucho, etc.
$1000 fine for fare evasion and it will stop !!
I live in DC. Watched security swipe through a young man who was about to jump the gate while I couldn't get through with my senior pass. It's a culture of crime in the community of corruption. Heard the Mayor say publicly That DC is a chocolate community and she'll help keep it that way. Her words not mine. Crime here is out of control she signs a promise to work on the problem. It's unreal.
DC is no longer CC...born and raised here and this place is gentrified like no other! On the other hand, she is trash and its time for a new mayor.

They need a armed guard there ar all times. Never should of allowed people in Union to put in contact it's not attendants job to stop dare evaders. What they there for.

Hmm seems as it didn't work as planned so wasted the 40 million on what I would just make the doors taller and wider so you can't get by. If you are worried about them getting out when needed they will open. Besides you all should know where to go incase of emergency. But oh I forgot the society we live in today's world. Remember not paying your share makes everyone pay one way or another. So you skipping out on the fare will come back on you as you will pay for it somewhere down the line. As karma has a way of getting those who cheated.

Transit knows this trust me , they have an entire department that wears regular clothing and counts how many go through. It's all in the budget people so stop acting like it's so crazy they're doing this. Transit allows it ... The more they lose the more they get back. But refuse to raise the pay of their employees. The lowest paid employees work the hardest and again they don't care.

In a country close to 60% white we find that 13% of the population commits most of the crime. This is the answer to your question. I'll bet hundreds of non whites jump the turnstiles for every one white person. In my family we value respect, honor, and dignity. I'm certainty not perfect as there are many things I'm ashamed of, but that's the thing. I feel shame for my misdeeds and want to grow and change. Other cultures preach crime and arrogance and find it a source of pride. Give "some cultures" a pile of bricks and you'll have a city, give "other cultures" a city and you'll have a pile of bricks. Catch my drift?

No it's not. Black folks have been disastrously discriminated against and face systemic unjustices to this day, which include drastically higher rates of poverty.
Poor people are the ones that often have to steal. There's more black poor persons than white ones because of racism.
