The Cornish Knitter - Episode 1 - My personal knitting life

  • Hello, I am Jane from Falmouth in Cornwall, UK.
This is my first ever knitting vlog episode. I have wanted to create a knitting vlog for a long time but was intimidated by the prospect of putting myself out there! Well here goes…….
Some of you may recognise me as 1 half of the Stitches and Cream www.stitchesandcream.co.uk/ duo who sometimes pop up on our IG post videos.
Full disclosure: I am lucky enough to be a yarn and knitting shop owner along with my sister Sandra. But this vlog is really about my own personal knitting life, although some of the yarns do come from the shop as we buy in what we love to work with, but some of them come from other suppliers and I love them too. We just don’t have the space for them all!
In my vlogs I want to chat about my knitting projects and plans, some lessons learned along the way, share some of my favourite knitting tools, and the knitting tips and tricks that I use and customers ask me about.
I may occasionally share some behind the scenes and insights about being a shop owner if people are interested in that just let me know.
Thank you for watching and please like, subscribe, and comment

I just discovered your channel this morning. As a person in the 4 th quarter of my life, I appreciate your content.
Your face lit up when you held the blue kerchief scarf close to your face. As we age we know which colors make us feel good and look good on us. We don’t have to go with all the trendy colors. As you said with the colors you are thinking for your cardigan, it will be a neutral and you can wear the colors that are good around your face. Win, win.
I’m interested in knitting a cardigan as well. You’ve sparked my interest. Now I am in my 70’s , short and round, so a pattern for my body shape will be a challenge.

Hi! I just discovered your podcast! Really enjoying it! I'm in the upper middle age group too. I have 5 granddaughters that I knit blankets and garments for and crochet amigurumi toys for. And that's all on top of what I make for my hubby and myself. I love the pullovers you are knitting! Have you tried the Shadow Wrap heel? No gaps like in the German short row heel. I also add 4 extra stitches on the 1st heel row to make it more roomy for the instep. I can't wear pullovers because I get over heated, so I knit cardigans. I liked knitting Blossom and want to knit the Whitmoor cardigan soon. I have a corner up blanket crocheted in Moss stitch (also known as linen stitch I believe) that I use my scraps for. I want to do the crocheted granny ripple stitch blanket next. Looking forward to your next podcast! Take care!

I really enjoyed seeing your knits and hearing about all you have in mind to knit in the weeks to come. I was also very interested to hear you have a yarn shop and although I live in Scotland holidays for me usually include looking for yarn shops wherever we are. Thankfully I have a lovely patient husband 😅....so one of these days I hope I can manage to visit your shop. Looking forward to your next podcast .....best wishes from Scotland...Nessa x

It's lovely to be able to watch someone about my age, who isn't afraid to knit with more colours than just beige and brown. I love beige and brown, but there are so many other lovely colours out there to use too. I particularly love the colour of your Ranunculous. I enjoy watching the younger knitters podcasts too and watch quite a few of them, but its really nice to watch more mature knitters too. And like you said, there aren't very many of them out there.

Like other comments its good to identify with presenters . Variety is king and loved your selections plus a UK based options when it comes to yarns . The world has become a smaller place and whist it is good to see what is available elsewhere I much prefer to keep the "miles " for my parcels and purchases down where possible . Kerrie

Hi Jane, that was a lovely podcast, I subscribed 😀, love your natural style. I too am middle-aged (plus a little bit) and really appreciate seeing my age group so well represented, fashionable without being frumpy. I love all the podcasts, young and old and learn so much from them, they are all such good company whilst I knit and crochet. My absolute favourite is Ruth Loves To Knit, closely followed by Kevin & Ray of Needles at the Ready.
Your skill of knitting and walking at the same time is amazing- I can't even text while walking! Looking forward to your next podcast and to seeing more of your knits. Love your blanket plans of holding a grey alongside the sets of minis, that's a plan in my knitting wishlist.

Hello, Jane -- I'm another older knitter, and I love podcasts from all ages! Like you, I don't need a cropped sweater. My most worn cardigan is Kate Davies Evendoon. It's a generous fit without swamping me, looks tidy when buttoned, very flattering. I've knit one for me and one for a friend and will be casting on another one soon. Looking forward to your next podcast.

Hello from Ohio in the US. Loved your podcast! As a middle aged knitter I relate to Everything your saying. I felt the same way about the Sophie shawl. It’s just garter stitch. No big deal. I decided to knit one just to use up some stash and I think I will like it. I may even knit more! I will look forward to your next podcast. 😊

I loved your Sophie Shawl and Scarves. I have also been thinking about knitting them but was undecided, now that I have seen yours I will be casting them on.
The Wood Nymph socks are so pretty, it's a lovely design. I also have a high instep and am not a big fan of the heel flap and gusset, mainly I don't like the way it looks, so I'm always on the lookout for a better heel. I can use the Fish Lips Kiss if I increase 6 stitches just before the heel start and decrease just after the heel ending. The Umbrella Socks by Kay Jones also fit me without any modifications.
The Nordstrand Sweater is so pretty and I love your colors.
Take care and I look forward to seeing you again.

What a DELIGHT to see your blog this morning on my CZcams feed! I’m in the US, in SW Ohio (between Dayton and Cincinnati). I loved how you explained how you choose colors! Your comfy chatty style is a natural for the types of videos I like to watch. (My great-grandmother came to the states in the 1890s from her home in Lands End Cornwall, and I’m determined to travel one day to see that area for myself.)
Keep posting and thanks for including quick snips of Cornwall for us to enjoy, too!!

Welcome to knitty CZcams land. I thoroughly enjoyed your podcast and the content. I especially appreciated that you spoke on your podcast with a normal voice. As if we were having a conversation. It was a joy to hear. So many podcasters use this weird voice which goes up high at the end which I find so irritating. But yours was top notch. Welcome again and looking forward to the next one. ❤

Hi Jane nice to put a face to a name. The lady from the Ollie and Bella podcast has mentioned your shop very favourably. Lovely to listen to you & your knitting & yarn knowledge. I love a cardigan & I currently have on my needles the Felix cardigan by Amy Christoffer's. I'm knitting it in an Aran weight Jamieson of Shetland yarn . I love the simple but effective detail on the raglan & it should knit up fairly quickly. I'm 54 short & busty so fitting might be a challenge but I'm still 25 in my head 🤣 Looking forward to your next episode & if I'm ever down in Cornwall I'd love to pop into your shop. Take care. X

Hello from Maine in the USA. Nice to see someone of similar age podcasting. My mum taught me how to knit mittens when I was in my teens and I didn't make much else through the years. A few years ago I started learning something new each winter such as hats with cables or lace patterns. You made me smile talking about only recently knitting socks. I've wanted to try them for a long time so this year I pushed myself to do a pair. Lol, mine are heavier and more for wearing in fall hiking. I am working both at same time (not magic loop) and have the toes left to do. It took me 2 tries to get the first heel flap done and once accomplished I couldn't believe how "not so scary" it was. Like you I am smitten. Great job on the first podcast. I have basic equipment so I'm looking forward to learning about tools and yarns etc.

looking forward to your next podcast, it’s great to have a more mature woman podcasting, I don’t feel so old now, lot older than you, but still love knitting, although I will say , some of the yarn in the shops are a bit out of my price range, but still love seeing them all, subscribed and sending blessings from Scotland
