She completely lost her singing voice.
Anyway she never talks about Eurovision, it traumatized her.

Israel had always sent happy, merry entries with dancing backing vocals and this was soo different

Shara Bachravot is a song filled with drama, but courageous, as the narrator flees away from a relationship. I love how it builds and its orchestration, and Rita gives a convincing performance with her moves on stage. Her vocals go off the rails as the song goes on, which is why she got 18th place overall. Nevertheless, I think it was underrated on the night, and I honestly think it's one of Israel's best (my 7th in 1990).

This is honestly such a grower of a song. I used to despise this, and now it’s my 9th. It’s such an interesting song in terms of composition, taking all these unexpected turns, and Rita performs the hell out of this. Needless to say, I feel this was underrated.

The IBA sent her in 1990, as they felt her attempt in the 1986 Kdam national selection didnt do her justice. She was sent for the first time with a dark ballad, a stark contrast happy joyful 1980's songs, a woman singing ('in the streets') about leaving an abusive relationship, a topic never sung about before in ESC ever, predating the "me too" movement by 30 years. Most artists had playback (which was allowed then) but Rita sang live, and her voice broke a bit at the end - which sent a good song to the 18th place.. She and the IBA suffered heavy criticism for a dark gloomy song ("singing in the dark" was the headline the day after) but this remains one of the best entries we sent - surely the best and most powerful ballad. Rita went on to have an amazing career

Shvil Habricha could have been a winner!
Anyway, this remains one of those failed attempts many countries had along the years but managed to become classics while winners went to the dumpster never to be heard again (Yug 1989, Sweden 1999 and probably all of the 2000s winners).
So kudos Israel for sending this true timeless song. At the end, this is what matters.

Great description, I love this song, but the other artists didn't sing in playback, they had pre-recorded back tracks, but all vocals were live.

Off-key practically the whole performance is so obvious that nobody should complain about the 18th place of Israel back then.
    Sorry not sorry 😔
