Details not discussed in this video that may prove helpful to some are that I have a private insurance that did help cover most of the surgery costs. Because this procedure is still so new in the United States many insurances are not well-versed in the coverage for it, so the process may be delayed. I am using crutches to walk and applying maybe 20 pounds on my prosthesis with each step. The pain I feel is definitely nerve-related. Muscle soreness is normal at this stage. All of my x-rays have come back impeccable. I have been doing PT at home for the last few weeks to help strengthen my limb.
I will list the hospital, doctor, physical therapist, and manufacturer information below.

Joanna, this is not a I Thessalonians comment... I am a degreed mechanical engineer. I have studied osseointegration off and on for 2 or 3 years. My belief is that sometimes that medical profession does things that actually have an "engineering" impact on the body...but since they know nothing about engineering...and don't know what they don't know...they come up with an idea like OI without having any notion about the engineering implications. There is something called a "bending moment" which is what the bone feels when the pin that emerges from your stump has any pressure put on it sideways...front to back, side to side, etc. The other thing the bone feels is axial load...which is probably OK...but my worry is bending moment because I am afraid that that pin...in a not too extreme circumstance...could exert a bending moment on the bone and break it. The probability of that happening in an OI situation is much greater than with a traditional prosthesis. I don't know whether your pain in the bone will ever normalize or not (I don't know what I don't know about that) but I do know that the "structure" (an oft used engineering term) could do unrepairable damage to the remaining thigh bone should an unwanted "bending moment" occur, i.e. even if the pain goes away...be careful. It may be easier to put on...but it is also easer to break off !! (and that would leave you with very limited options and likely an even higher amputation).

Your comment has really struck me, especially these last few months. I can feel exactly what you’re describing and hoping, for my sake obviously, that you are wrong. I do appreciate your insight and hope you don’t get offended by my response. Thanks again for your comment!

@@just_joanna no offense at all. But given my concerns about the technology, I would only hope that you would be careful. Please be safe I realize that when the technology works it seems like a superior solution compared to a traditional socket. My heart goes out to you that you find yourself in the circumstance. Please be careful.

Joanna, it does not bother or cause any pain to have that screw embedded in the serrated bone of the leg

No, no pain. I’m only experiencing pain now when I step. It’s nerve pain.
