Geesh, I have a LBKA and just realized, that was 25 yrs ago! Have not been able to wear a prosthesis in yrs but get around in my chair.

I just wanted to say " thank you so much!" for your journey-documentation. I cannot describe how helpful it is to have the personal perspective of the patient who went through this experince. I'm starting the Ossoeintegration process next month ( due to war injury) and these videos were an eye opening, which prepared me mentally not to be shocked or disappointed by any surprising development. I hope these kind of documentaions would be prescribed to every new patient in the future. So thank you and May God bless you and bestow his full mercy and recovery on you !

Meditation is a very good way to reduce all the tension and fear that comes with pain. 30 to 60 minutes per day is enough to achieve real results in eliminating anxiety

There are several ways to control pain - 1/ A TENS machine sends small electric pulses across the spine with sticky pads. You can set the speed and intensity to best stop the pain. It cost only $15 - $30 2/ Hypnotherapy is used in hospitals very successfully to remove all pain when the patient is allergic to anesthetics. The patient is awake and alert and can even watch the surgery. 3/ Accupuncture has been used for hundreds of years to perform operations without pain. These are just 3 ways to get rid of pain

Can you tell me the cost of osseointegration surgery? And what does it feel like to actually walk? Is there a heavy foreign body sensation?

Joanna, hello, good evening, it would be the third surgery you would have on your sawn leg, your stump was longer in the first surgery before osseointegration, in that surgery they sawed more of the bone and amputated more of the muscle bundles, your leg is smaller sawed and amputated, and now they are going to saw more of the bone and the muscles as well, the osseointegration did not have good results

You have so much courage! I’m an old guy 2 months from stage 2. Thanks for sharing. I’m good without pain up to 80lbs, but the phantom pain is so bad I’m going to do an implant.

I really hope that surgery goes well. Because if it doesn't, I think you should really consider going back to a suction socket. Like I said last time, I know your stump is shorter and it will be more difficult to walk than when your stump was longer, but living without pain is worth it.

Can you remove the iron nail on your leg at any time? If it can't be taken down, will it affect your evening life and may accidentally sting your husband. If we could replace the quick disassembly plan, it would be even more perfect

Fingers crossed the surgery will be your last, I broke up with my GF as she could not keep her promise for a visit and communication just keep getting worse. I did not care she was a amputee but, you can control communication and other things. I am now dating someone new and much happier but, know what I would do for someone.

I am sorry you're recovery it's not going as smoothly as hoped. I hope OI still works for you in the long term. I would still do it if i was in the same situation. I'm still wishing you the best of luck with recovery.

Hi Joanna I don't know if this is realistic, but it doesn't seem to be going all that well, and I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to remove the implants and go back to wearing a sucktion socket? I've been asked if I wanted osseointegration multiple times, but I've never said yes because none of the people I know who had osseointergation done have had positive outcomes. You have a very severe limp, one that's much worse than the one you had pre - surgery, and I see you're in significant pain. Other amputees I know have had many issues with infection, nerve pain, and the implant literally snapping during the time they've had it. I know going back to a suction socket will be very hard as your stump is shorter now and it's going to feel like you've wasted a year of your life, but I think you should do it if this pain continues. Walking with an okay gait and getting a few sores now and then, forcing you to use crutches while your stump recovers, is better than walking with a huge limp and constant pain. I truly wish you nothing but the best, but I hope you trust your gut and don't blindly follow the doctor's advice.

Joanna, the other problem I see (and I see the divot in the pain area that you are talking about) is that OI is supposed to help the gait. When you walk without crutches, you bear down so deeply on the OI side that it cannot be good for either the OI or your lower back....which, if the OI were not causing you pain, would eventually flair up because some therapist needs to help you with the gait. Still rooting for you. Still hoping this corrects itself in time (or that they find the internal problem and revise it).

Joanna, I wrote you the "engineering" comment a while back. And you answered it the other day. While the dangers I described are inherent and due to laws of physics that none of us can change, I do want you to know I am rooting for you and hoping that your OI will be a total success. You said you want to do more videos on how you have recovered from the OI surgery. Prior to OI you used a more typical prosthetic with a socket. I think it would instructive for you to compare the two different experiences (socket vs. OI) in depth and at this point in your progress whether you believe you made the right choice and why. I have explored more of your videos to understand the backstory and the DV beginnings of all this are really horrific. My interest is not as an amputee but as an engineer because, while I am retired, if I had the lats 20 years of my career to do again I think I would like to work for a place like Otto Bock (and I do speak fluent German...which might help) because the bionic human really is coming true (C-Leg is truly biotic in nature). For those reasons I am more interested than usual in your journey. I do not have a fetish about this...I truly am interested in the bionic-human interface....both the realities and the challenges. Thx.

keep going you will get through this you find the more you use it the leg your leg becomes a custom to the feelings you are getting i was done in mid 21 and my knee still gives me grief it does get better!

Hi! Very happy to see someone who's so positive and optimistic despite losing a leg! For the past 8 months I've been in and out of 5he hospital with osteomyelitis, a hip and femur infection, and doctors have warned me that I will probably lose my leg. I am an amputee with OI and I struggle daily with burning phantom pain. I wonder if I can find a chriopractor who offers this?

Hello Joanna, to do the osseointegration, they sawed your bone more, it seems that your sawn leg was shorter, than the one from the first surgery
